Back after a one-week hiatus due to the international break, we renew our acquaintance with the Premier League fixture list and attempt to slice out the juicy fruit from the bruised flesh. In other words, here’s our weekly rundown of those with favourable fixtures and ripe for investment.

The Highs

Arsenal
An upcoming run of promising-looking showdowns could not have come at a better time. Arsene Wenger has made some significant moves in the transfer market and, with Gervinho and Alex Song returning from suspension after this weekend, there is a potential new start looming for the Gunners following their Old Trafford drubbing.

On paper, no other side can compete with the attacking potential on offer over the next six Gameweeks – a run that has Arsenal facing Swansea, Bolton, Sunderland and Stoke all at home, will surely provide handsome returns if they can find a semblance of form. Even trips to Blackburn and local rivals Spurs offer the opportunity for goals.

The Arsenal defence will enjoy a facelift over the coming weeks with the arrival of Andre Santos and, in particular, Per Mertesacker. They could be in line for immediate starts with Arsenal facing up against opposition which appear to give them the perfect platform to start building a clean sheet tally.

West Brom
The Baggies face three away trips in the next four but they are all against teams which should give Roy Hodgson’s side opportunities for goals and results. Trips to Norwich, Swansea and Sunderland should bear some fruit, while a home clash with Fulham in Gameweek six will also be approached with confidence. The fitness of both Shane Lone and Peter Odemwingie is crucial, however – both are currently going into this weekend as injury doubts.

Defensively the Baggies are never a team to tempt investment but, over the next set of Gameweeks, their opportunity for returns at the back looks very strong – easily the healthiest within the low-to-mid price bracket, making Jonas Olsson a potential transfer target.

Wolves
Mick McCarthy’s side have confidence flowing through the camp and a short-term fixture list to keep the engine running. Three Molineux matches in the next four offer the opportunity for the likes of Matt Jarvis, Kevin Doyle and Steven Fletcher to continue their form, while Jamie O’Hara and Stephen Hunt will be looking to come out of their shell with some first returns of the season.

With encouraging defensive displays already in the back and with McCarthy demonstrating a desire to keep clean sheets with his tactical switch at Villa Park, there appears to be continued potential from the likes of Roger Johnson in the coming weeks.

Also consider…
Newcastle – rock solid in defence so far, the fixture list continues to deliver opponents that could keep the returns coming for the likes of Steven Taylor and Danny Simpson.

Chelsea – three away trips in four, including a stint at Old Trafford, is perhaps a challenging task but Andre Villas-Boas’ side are facing defences which should offer them opportunities with a strong goal return on the cards if Juan Mata can settle.

Fulham – like their West London neighbours, Fulham have fixtures which should give them plenty of scope for boosting the “goals for†column. Home clashes with Blackburn this weekend, together with Craven Cottage meetings with QPR and Everton look particularly favourable.

The Lows

Man United
Don’t get us wrong, United are flying and, in attacking terms, remaining a massive Fantasy force. The main concern is undoubtedly in defensive quarters. While Chris Smalling, Jonny Evans and Phil Jones are performing superbly, the fixture list continues to deliver them opponents with a significant goal threat. The Old Trafford clash with Norwich in Gameweek 8 may well be the only United cleanie in the coming weeks.

That will, of course, mean Alex Ferguson’s side will be forced to kill games off with their considerable firepower – Wayne Rooney and company won’t have it all their own way against Chelsea, Liverpool and City over the next six but it will be brave Fantasy manager to turn their back on the on-fire striker.

Everton
Two attractive home fixtures in the next two Gameweeks will ease Everton into the post-Arteta era but, following that, things become decidedly sticky for the Toffees. Games against City, Liverpool, Chelsea and United all lie in wait from Gameweeks 6-10, posing potential problems at both ends of the field. If Leighton Baines’ hamstring keeps him out of the next two, it’s doubtful that he’ll find his way into many Fantasy lineups until that particular storm has passed.

Blackburn
Defensively, Blackburn are in for a torrid time with the new partnership of Scott Dann and Chris Samba set for a series of challenges early on. Certainly, over the next four Gameweeks, it’s difficult to see Steve Kean’s side keeping a shut-out and that will mean that the attacking players will have to come to the fore if Rovers are to earn results. Given the performances so far, that seems doubtful.

Be wary of…
Stoke – Liverpool, United and Arsenal are all on the radar in the next six Gameweeks, handing new boys Peter Crouch and Cameron Jerome a challenging start to their new life in the Potteries. Clean sheets look hard to come by, too.

Wigan – a journey to City this weekend is just the start of three away trips in four, split by a home clash with Spurs in Gameweek six. While Franco Di Santo has form and Hugo Rodallega and Victor Moses have shown intent, the Latics may struggle to make an impression in the coming weeks.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I'd actually bench Taylor personally. Joey Barton has to score at the weekend, surely. Wolves look tight this season, Spurs yet to get going properly... plus, when in doubt I would generally play the home fixture. Not much in it though, they'll probably both concede.

I Walcott is fit I'll bring him in and captain him. If he's not, I'll bring Silva in and captain him. Personally I think Dzeko is at risk of an early bath if City are cruising, what with the Champions League game looming.

Don't listen to me though, I captained Malouda last week (with Rooney in my team)

could be rested after 60, surely wont replicate 4 goals, rooney's a safer bet but dzeko has more potential to explode i think.. cant see rooney getting a hattrick but dzeko.. maaaaybe...

Away at Bolton is a tough match. Rooney could easily score 2 points. He scored all his goals against Arsenal from set pieces.

Dzeko could be huge. No reason to think he won't deliver either. Good form up against a weak Wigan team. If he flops, you'll rest easy knowing he was the most logical choice going into this gameweek.

Any of these guys that have been out for a while worth a punt when they come back?

    K Toure
    Henandez
    Tevez
    Gervinho
    Sturridge

Hernandez + Sturridge + Tevez up front a good differential, or just plain stupid?

They were indeed. I would suggest holding back just a bit before going to this line up. It is a massive differential but I suggest only "punting" on one of the 3 to start with. I hope Sturridge gets big minutes cause ifhe does he'll go straigh into my team.

      i like hernandez..
sturridge needs more minutes and as he's 4th choice striker i doubt he'll get them..
Tevez wouldn't be worth it imo, too much of a rotation risk for the forseeable future.

    i have a dilema

    current defence is
    kompany bosingwa delatt simpson woodgate

    in mid i have
    mata silva walcott 4.5 4.5

    suarez rooney dzeko up front

if i do kompany - enrique and woodgate - n.taylor, i have 1.5 to spend in mid. can make one of my 4.5s into a 6.

so is the downgrade of kompany to enrique and woodgate to n.taylor worth the extra 1.5 difference between dyer from swansea or someone like brunt or anderson

Would it worth the 8 point hit to sell Bent (injuries), Nzog (might as well), Cahill (need his 8.9 money) to bring in RVP, Walcott and a 6 mid?

If yes, which one should I consider getting? O’Hara? Hunt? or just get Dyer and save the 1.5? Looking at FISO Dyer might rise and Cahill might drop again.

    Any inputs appreciated.

Don't think 6.4m can be called a premium really... he'll get decent service from Larsson and Mummy, enough to put a few goals away for sure. And spoon a few more over the crossbar while he's at it.

A frustrating player to own, but he's scored pretty well for me in the past.

Yep, I think he's potentially great value. Vying with Fletcher (current choice), Klasnic, Ruiz and Hoillet for the cheapish striker spot in my squad.

If *touch wood* I had to wildcard for some reason next week I'd probably give him a go.

You know I think it has to be Sinclair. Arsenal are so rubbish at the back. Song is still suspended, Vermaelen is injured. Santos and Mertesacker are untested and Koscielny/Djourou are liabilities that could give away a penalty.

Come to think of it, might actually shelf N'Zogbia or Warnock for Del Laet.

I think so - will give him the armband too.

You think any other transfers are worth taking a hit for?

I'd go with the second option... trying to decide whether to switch Aguero (not gauranteed to even play) to RVP (gauranteed points)

Reading the Match Day Topic on Bluemoon (Manchester City Forum) is making me nervous! I'm hoping the City fans aren't very good with their starting line up predictions!

A lot of them have 2 of Silva/Nasri/Dzeko on the bench! Hope they are incorrect <_<

Yeah I'm getting worried about that too. I've done my FPL transfers (Roonpig and Jecko) but holding on with the Metro game.
Have a forward line of Carroll, Roonpig and ...erm...Torres.

Probably will boot AC but who for? Could be RVP time!

The great about Metro is that everyone is affordable so I can have a fwd line of Rooney, RVP and Torres with a very decent midpark. In FPL, I prefer Rooney - he's in such good form and I'm not sure the ARS/SWN game will produce that many goals.

Suarez for me is a season keeper particularly at that price. The problem with Citeh fwds is that you just don't know who is going to play 😕

I have Rooney, Saurez and Aguero at the moment... I want to switch Aguero to RVP for the reason you state plus fixtures are good for ARS.. The only thing is I have a bad feeling if Aguero does play he'll score a couple... Oh well thats the gamble I suppose... Like Saurez and with Adam injured think he's a gauranteed start now with Carroll up front.. what do you think

Not sure if you are on a WC(your FPL link is broken)

I've never been a fan of Arsenal defenders, no matter what their fixtures are.

Arteta & Mata are unknown. I would get Rvp that's on peno's if you want arsenal cover. Is klasnic not under threat from PiNgogchio?

Klasnic is in great form for a bench warmer at least. It was between Mertesacker and Lescott so maybe citeh for defence then. Pinning hopes on Arteta for fixtures and Mata as showing great performance from the last game.

Arsenal defence with two new guys, one being slower than my grandad (who has an ankle set in some sort of concrete compound), no Vermaelen and lack of rock solid keeper should probably be avoided. If you're going for one then Santos looks to have most potential as he scores/assists a lot.

Wenger needs to tell his team - "Look, we're shit at the back now, we need to go out and SCORE. Stop pansying around their 18 yard box and F***ING SHOOT!!!!"

I'm not Jafa, but I also have Baines, so I'll chip in... it's a wait and see job I think. If he's confirmed out for a couple of weeks I'll probably take a hit to replace him- probably with Kompany. In fact if he's ruled out just for this week I'll still be tempted to take the hit, as I'm falling behind on value a bit.

If he goes into the weekend with a chance of playing I'll start him- we might even get a cheeky 65-minute sub with a clean sheet out of him if we're lucky.

      Wait and see....

Baines: will hang on and hope he plays. If he doesn't, I will mobilise my ubercheaps.

Simpson will come in. If he's out, Young Caulker will need to play like a Brazillian right back if he's to get anything at ARS.

It's funny when you read this site - things get built up over the days and the bandwagons soon get rolling.

If you read through this thread it seems Walcott has all of a sudden become Fantasy gold - at 9mil he's not exactly a bargain and at no point in his career has he ever been prolific. He still has the same problems he's always had as a striker in that he's got "Arsenal syndrome" - an ability to look impressive but have little end product.

I think that's a little harsh Jimrod. His problem has been injuries lately, as opposed to a lack of end product. He got 9 goals and 8 assists last season, which is a big step up from previous years. Given an extended run in the side I think he'll more than justify 9m. It's just the "given an extended run in the side" part that worries me.

Only attacking Arsenal cover though other than Arteta if you go roon/djeko/suarez up top.

Wally always hurts me though as I never have him when he goes big.

Yeah, being harsh perhaps but it's that inconsistency that concerns me. You expect your >7.5 mids to occasionally score big and strike blank much of the time, but for 9mil you want a little more consistency. I hope he can do it for England's sake really (and Arsenal's given their poor luck with injuries) but jury's still out for me...
