[sbu_large_image] Champions League

With the August transfer window now firmly closed, the thirty-two clubs participating in this season’s Champions League have subsequently entered their official squads to UEFA.

The tournament kicks off on Tuesday September 13 – that’s a week today – and Fantasy managers will be pleased to know they have the option of another game to test their managerial abilities – the UEFA Fantasy Champions League has opened for business, allowing you to consider the merits of Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and, of course, Alberto Aquilani for your fifteen-man squads.

This season we will not only be re-opening the Scout League (code: 212-74) for another title tilt but will be setting aside the regular Scout cap and donning a beret, fedora or perhaps even a Ushanka in order to provide coverage of the tournament over the course of this season. Whether it’s the continental glamour tie of Barcelona vs Milan or the perhaps slightly less appealing APOEL vs Zenit, every game will get some level of mention with player picks thrown in as we go.

Keep your eyes peeled across these here pages in the days to come for more information, then, but for now, let us begin tinkering with our new squads and relish the joys of being able to line up Wayne Rooney and co alongside our favourite players from La Liga, the Bundesliga and beyond.

I’ve set up a minileague: League Number 41600

Note you get balls all for winning the minileague, well apart from bragging rights. They are priceless.

It's a different ball game because of the manager's subs. You can bring players in who play on the second day of the gw for those who have underperformed on the first. You can also change your captain, as long as your first day captain hasn't been sent off.

So, you want a spread of players who play on both days, although not necessarily a spread within each position as you can change formations. But you certainly want your keepers playing on different days.

I also reckon it's a good idea to have some bankers to fall back on playing on the second day. You can have some cheaper or more rotation risky players on the second day, but you want guaranteed starters to fall back on.

Then you look at the groups. Some groups are tougher than others, but there are some minnows who everyone else in their pool gets to play home and away. This gives potential for big fish in mid-priced ponds to give you good value.

The big players - Messi, Ronaldo, Rooney, Sneijder, etc are pretty high prices, so it's hard to fit many of them in. Maybe one or two, but with this format strength in depth can be crucial.

      Odd that he went down!

Personally speaking I'd follow the Scouts recommendation and wait to see who's on set pieces for QPR now.

Barton's probably dropped because he isn't automatically on set pieces now.

If Taarabt is keeping pens and sharing free kicks and corners then you may want to pay the extra for him rather than Barton.

SWP also has to be added to the mix as well as he appears to be being given freedom to roam playing in the middle behind the striker.

You have him and Taarbs, that's two very creative talents now that teams have to account for. Both are going to allow the other more space to flourish in.

He's a strange one, great player in great form pre-season but had to leave Chelsea as he was bench fodder - now I can't imagine he'd have gone to Arsenal just to do the same thing, he must have been promised regular first team action. We'll have to wait and see, he might even start taking games from Arshavin who's seemingly a little disheartened by Fab and Nasri leaving.

No talk of Mata on here and lots on Walcott!

Mata is the better player, playing for the better team - not sure why Walcott is being picked over him.

Yes, Arsenal fixtures are good but gone are the days when teams would come to Emirates and get pwned by 3,4,5 goals.

I learnt that last season when they kept drawing to pathetic teams or scraping 1-0 wins.

Better to strengthen your mid. Rare that a defender scores as much as similar priced mid over the season. Always play your own game, forget who the guy above you has or what formation, gotta go with your gut! 🙂

Yep a 4.5 mill mid vs a 4.5 mill def probably would, but a 6mill def isn't usually as profitable over a season as a 6 mill mid. Only expensive defs to pay back in points have been Baines, Cole, Vidic, Vermaelen & Terry. Mid priced are not worth the extra when you can upgrade your mid by a couple of mill. But if you're downgrading a def I wouldn't use the cash to improve a gk.

My wildcard team will have a defence of:

    Krul, Vorm
Kompany, Bos, Enrique, S Taylor, Brown

I would be more confident of my keepers if I had Given and Begovic but they cost 1.5m more which I don't have. Is it worth sacrificing Kompany for a 4-4.5m?

No, better to have cheap goalies with occasional CD & lots of save points than to downgrade a good defender. You only need 1 or 2 defs from good teams though IMHO. I took komp out to upgrade my mid though, as City seem more intent on filling the opponent's net than covering their own!

I watched a little of their game yesterday and he didn't do anything during that time. In fact the swedish commentator singled him out as having been poor since he had wasted a couple of really good chances.

I absolutely loved all the attention Camzy got during the RMT's before the season started. Utterly ridiculous.

One point in particular was incredibly lolsome. People were asking Camzy to do a RMT, then asking what Camzy's team was. She posted his and a few people replied along the lines of they were "so relieved" thier team was very similar to Camzy's.

I'm planning on Krul & Vorm with De laet as one of my 4's and thinking a fourth team made more sense than doubling up on Swansea/Newc

that is one of my many choices as well.

RVP (penalties at centre of everything Arsenal do) and Brunt (assist king, great fixtures)

Dzeko - ok he's great, but slight rotation risk..Walcott (can score huge, can also get a troublesome tweak and play once every four game) Getting Walcott is like getting a player that you know yo uwill have to transfer out in a week or two's time but don't want to admit it.

I'm not risking a FPL meltdown on Sat Am...Friday afternoon after the press conferences is when I make my move from now on. Wierdly the server problems have worked in my favour. No sat am tweaking has meant better scores.

Damn this game! I literally have no idea what to do, which is a strange feeling cos i usually have a plan. I know everyone has been harping on about Rooneys form, but i just dont see utd scoring absolute hatfuls against Chelsea, Liverpool, Stoke and City in the next few gwks.

In terms of the utd attack im more of the opinion that Young is this years utd must have player perhaps.

Rooney can score against anyone. Over the years his mega hauls do go in waves. He's in one right now, so i'm not taking him out in case it ends. When it ends and he gets 2 weeks of 2 pts then i'll consider ditching him, but not before.
