[sbu_large_image] Champions League

With the August transfer window now firmly closed, the thirty-two clubs participating in this season’s Champions League have subsequently entered their official squads to UEFA.

The tournament kicks off on Tuesday September 13 – that’s a week today – and Fantasy managers will be pleased to know they have the option of another game to test their managerial abilities – the UEFA Fantasy Champions League has opened for business, allowing you to consider the merits of Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and, of course, Alberto Aquilani for your fifteen-man squads.

This season we will not only be re-opening the Scout League (code: 212-74) for another title tilt but will be setting aside the regular Scout cap and donning a beret, fedora or perhaps even a Ushanka in order to provide coverage of the tournament over the course of this season. Whether it’s the continental glamour tie of Barcelona vs Milan or the perhaps slightly less appealing APOEL vs Zenit, every game will get some level of mention with player picks thrown in as we go.

Keep your eyes peeled across these here pages in the days to come for more information, then, but for now, let us begin tinkering with our new squads and relish the joys of being able to line up Wayne Rooney and co alongside our favourite players from La Liga, the Bundesliga and beyond.

Read an interesting quote that made me think of barton.

"He's nice now but he WAS an as*hole. Just 'cause a piece of sh*t dries up and stops smelling, doesn't mean it's not still a piece of sh*t."

Taylor doing a great job of standing still for Young's goal, only slightly less mobile than Williams. Bodes well for Arsenal's right winger, whoever that chap is.

"a molecule arose, that quite by accident was able to make crude copies of itself"

And that is the part where scientists will always struggle. The concept of life is too great to be considered a 'natural experiment'.

Nothing becoming something is nothing to do with evolution.

A molecule able to replicate itself is not that complicated idea.

a carbon molecule , joins with a nearby carbon molecule. More join together. Eventually they create a set code by which to join together ie bases of DNA.

Leave it billions of years and here we are. Same basic atoms doing same basic stuff giving way to a grand scheme.

Again evolution is nothing to do with the big bang. Which is could just be a black hole from another universe - not nothing to something.

"Nothing becoming something is nothing to do with evolution."

Where did I bring up evolution? I was discussing the origin of life, and even before that the origin of matter.

Any way, pointless debate, the 'scientific' side of the debate refuses to believe the other side has an actual argument so belittles all claims made as inconsequential. Can't really debate with someone who doesn't acknowledge that there may be logical thought on the other side.

Yes the other side refuse to believe due to no spec of evidence , nothing but conjecture.

Its pretty hard to convince scientists of things when there is no evidence.

The "logical thought" on the other side is merely in the brain of humans which is being more revealed now through neuro science than ever.

So yes due to the lack of evidence, random conjecture trying to match it to a proven fairy story and its basis in the brain driven by dopamine to fool us im sure the other side with the evidence is skeptical.

No matter how great an idea is its useless without any evidence. The other side has nothing so yes its not taken seious.

                    Puh-leeze.

Argument and thought = code words for 'Faith' aka zero empirical evidence to support.

A little thing called Science compares data and observations and quantifiable/reproducible (no pun intended) results.

You have nothing but a belief in a super magician who makes things go 'poof' based on ... nothing.

I'm not trying to pick a fight, but really.

Science does not assert the non-existence of a supreme being ... but many religious fundamentalists in fact assert that scientific theory is false. The burden of evidence/proof is with the latter.

@DB: Frame of reference changes your interpretation of evidence. If you exclude a supernatural answer, you can never conclude a supernatural answer. I wish I could find a list of the scientific explanations that have been created to avoid a supernatural answer, and how ridiculous some of them are.

I'm not going to enter a debate with you on this, because we may as well enter the Special Olympics. But all I'm saying is if you close off an answer, you'll never get to it.

@King Eric: As soon as someone includes in their argument references to 'super magicians' you realise that they have no real knowledge of the other side of the argument, nor are they interested in actually engaging it.

                    Supernatural answer / super magician. To-may-to, to-mah-to.

"so belittles all claims made as inconsequential"

... the delicious irony of you saying that to me.

Science doesn't exclude supernatural, there simply isn't, or hasn't been found, any evidence pointing to the supernatural.

Your lack of interest is telling.

Looking at the positive - Wales have a decent enough crop of youngsters coming through, been ages since they qualified for owt. Would be good to see England, Scotland, Ireland, N.Ireland and Wales all in one tournament. A proper tournament, not a makey uppy one.

gutted, how do i fall for this new england flowing football. we just could not cope with bale on night he kept running inbetween midfield and defence and dragged alot of players mainly young out of the postion and then second hald we saw how class bale was and somehow the space ramsey and collinson had so much time. and then we started trebling up on bale in that area last 30 mins and they then kept slipping it out left making there left back look like ashley cole. i am so pissed off. cause we should of left bale to run forward he had no help so they would pressed forward we could of then kept are shape and hit them on the break.

We won the game and have almost qualified - need a draw at Montenegro.
Bale was wasteful and Wales were so reliant on him, but I agree about Ramsey getting into space too often. Not comvince about midfield, need Barton, Wilshere & Gerrard in there.

Being a Wales fan has been largely a frustrating experience for as long as I can remember (Paul Bodin's penalty miss in a WC qualifier v Romania sticks firmly in the memory) but the last two matches have been vastly encouraging.

Ramsey looked classy on the ball and his passing was spot-on all night, Bale was largely ineffective and Bellamy's presence would have made it interesting. Oh for a decent striker when Wales have got their creative players functioning - that Earnshaw miss from 5 yards beggars belief!

I'm sure you can draw your own conclusions from the Englsih perspective but the revamped midfield did little to enhance the English performance. Lamps, Milner and Barry might be hard pushed to get into the Welsh team on commitment, energy and productivity 🙂

I agree - England looked really flat in the last half an hour of that game, primarily because Wales upped the tempo and gave it a go. They knocked it around with a bit of confidence in all fairness, but it must be bloody frustrating when you work your balls off in the middle of the park and at the back and you haven't got a reliable and consistent centre-forward to bulge that net.

he did that 5 years ago.

Like Lampard, his loss of pace and stamina seem to have impacted all too heavily on his game.

Both of those two seem to be failing to adapt to old age the way Scholes and Giggs did.
