There’s another close-fought tussle atop the Captain Poll this week. Robin Van Persie’s quartet of goals over the break, albeit against the “might” of San Marino, has thrust him forward as the leading candidate. The Fantasy manager’s confidence is no doubt reinforced by the fact that Swansea arrive at the Emirates on Saturday having already suffered a battering on the road via a vibrant Man City performance, although Arsenal will go into the game licking deep Old Trafford wounds; it could get interesting if the Swans can keep them at bay early on.

Van Persie’s substantial attacking threat, bolstered by his set-piece involvement, has him out in front with City’s Edin Dzeko on his tail following his own four-goal salvo at Spurs in Gameweek three. The Bosnian will surely retain a starting role this weekend, despite the looming threat of Champions League rotation in the City camp. Roberto Mancini’s side have Wigan in the sights, a side who, believe it or not, have kept things reasonably tight to this point. Can the Latics stem the City tide, conducted by the brilliance of David Silva and a mummified Samir Nasri? It seems unlikely.

Wayne Rooney’s presence in the top rankings also comes as little surprise. Irresistible form, prolonged with a brace in Bulgaria, has him well placed to inflict more damage at the Reebok this weekend as United pitch their rampant attacking football against a Bolton side who looked exposed at Anfield last time out. Goals at both ends look on the cards.

Those three strikers are the clear armband contenders, although midfield master craftsmen David Silva and Mikel Arteta are pushing in fourth and fifth. Their brand of Spanish flair should be given an airing in their home fixtures, and the strong confidence in City and Arsenal victories continues further down the poll as the likes of Sergio Aguero, Samir Nasri and Theo Walcott all figure highly in the current thinking.

Indeed, Luis Suarez, currently ranked tenth, is the only player outside of City, Arsenal and United in the top ten – the Uruguayan has an unenviable trip to the Britannia this weekend, and, having drawn a blank in the win over Bolton last time out, confidence from the Fantasy fraternity appears to have been dented. Notably, Suarez is amongst the most “transferred out” players going into Saturday’s Fantasy Premier League (FPL) deadline.

Want an outside bet? Defenders with attacking potential might be the route to follow. Both Jon Arne Riise and Leighton Baines (who is now expected to be available) are simmering outside our top ten but clearly offer returns at both ends of the pitch when Blackburn and Villa visit their home turf.

Plenty to ponder before the deadline bell tolls – be sure to place your vote in this week’s poll via the homepage middle column.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

he'll get a chance, it's keeping his place that's the issue.
i think he'll start v sunderland, just don't trust him to keep his place long term given it's not his real position on the right and he'll have anelka, kalou, drogba, and mata (should malouda play) waiting to come in.

cech, bosingwa, ivanovic(luiz to play last 30mins then be first choice from then on), terry, cole, mikel, ramires, lampard, sturridge, mata, torres

I have done Dzeko and Walcott, I was fed up with watching Dzekos price going up and up. If I was patient I would of done the RVP Brunt now.

cheers, as a RVP fan going into this game and Arsenal's fixtures without him does seem ludicrous. I'm a big fan of Brunt...always delivered the assists for me when I've got him in.

think that's the winning combination so far. Going to have to hope Man City don't tan Wigan a new one and if they do it involves preposterous players that no one has like boyata and barry.

yes. Suarez is still a threat, irrespective of opposition. Dzeko if playing could mop up. Tough getting all the best strikers in, but for me I'm not dropping Suarez or rooney until their legs fall off.

After using my 2 transfers to shore up my squad I'm looking at this for week 4:

    Given (Vorm)
    Bosingwa-Baines-Johnson (Simpson-Orr)
    Taarabt-Sinclair-Silva(v)-Young (Moses)
    Rooney(c)-Holt-Suarez

I don't think the "resting" threat to Suarez warrants taking him out for Moses.

Still looking at all the RVP options. What are peoples thoughts on the following:-

    A.
    Given, (Vorm)
Jose Enrique, Bosingwa, Simpson / Brown, (De Laet)
    Silva, Young, Arteta, Brunt, (Dyer)
    Rooney, Dzeko, Suarez

    B.
    Given, (Vorm)
Jose Enrique, Bosingwa, Simpson / Brown, (De Laet)
    Silva, Young, Petrov, Brunt, (Dyer)
    Rooney, Dzeko, RVP

    C.
    Krul, (Vorm)
Jose Enrique, Bosingwa, Simpson / Bramble, (De Laet)
    Silva, Young, Petrov, Brunt, (Dyer)
    Rooney, RVP, Suarez

C but drop Brunt to cheaper so you can have Given over Krul

I have answerd two of your posts all on the same query George. They are all so simiar it just which three strikers you want. Go B - Rooney Dzeko RVP and then get Liverpool coverage when their fixtures ease up.

Thanks guys. I really think Suarez is fixture proof. I'm now thinking C, but really not sure if dropping Dzeko is the best thing to do.

"fixture proof" = "due to score/CS"

No such thing. Quality players are 'resistant', sure ... but if the suggestion is that SWA or WIG home is equal/negligible difference to STO away > I disagree.

Suarez is fixture proof as he is capable of scoring in every game, the guy IS Liverpool so far this season, he won the South American cup for Urugay.

May be a little over the top, but you can't disagree he is imense this season!

I know him quite well, my Sis-in-Law is Uruguayan and, therefore, I'm 'forced' to follow their team 🙂

... and I have him currently, so I agree, to an extent.

But is RVP fixture proof? Rooney? Tevez? Sure, but if you're comparing these four to each other [and not to Holt or Hoilett, etc.], surely you'd prefer a RVP home to SWA than Suarez away to STO?

Hard to go wrong with either ... just having a discussion 🙂

That would take a couple more transfers than I would be willing to do.

Szenko is a transfer waitting to happen (I have him to) if he doens't score this weekend or worse doesn't play he'll free fall (AKA a Torres)in price. Maybe go for Holt and keep the spare cash for a quick transfer to Suarez?

Have come to this! I think it covers what´s necessary for a near future:

    Vorm - Krul
    Delete - Saylor - Zingwa - Enri - Merts
    Anderson - Silva - Walcott - Mata - Brunt
    Rooney - Dzeko - Holt

    0.4 in the bank
    What do you say?
