We know now.

Roberto Mancini was the picture of innocence in his pre-match press interrogation. We suspected that he was due to pull Carlos Tevez from his exquisitely tailored sleeve for the home meet with Wigan. Hands up though, having pocketed the air miles and soaked up several in-flight movies, we were amongst those who pictured Sergio Aguero making way – like for like – it made sense. How wrong, how very wrong.

There was always mild concern, a twinge of doubt, that Edin Dzeko could be sacrificed following two Bosnian outings. Surely not though – surely the four goal blast at White Hart Lane had rendered Dzeko bomb proof?

Butter wouldn’t melt, Mancini appeared to scoff at the idea of changing a winning team in preparation for Wednesday’s date in Naples. Samir Nasri was fine – his troublesome hand injury wouldn’t keep him out. And yet, the Frenchman was preserved temporarily on the bench. More significantly, Mancini opted to hand him the potent Dzeko for company. The six-goal striker was left to shuffle uncomfortably while Aguero expertly stroked home City’s opener via the mesmeric David Silva. A hat-trick followed for the Argentine hitman, memories of Dezko’s White Hart Lane brilliance dissolved goal by goal.

There was of course mixed emotions in the Fantasy community. The despair of those who eagerly boarded the Bosnian’s bandwagon, matched only by the gleeful satisfaction of those who spurned the hot ticket. Fantasy Premier League Wildcards will have been fluttered to ride the wave of Dzeko’s rising stock but now, with rest and rotation already rearing it’s head, we’re left questioning the merits of Dzeko’s selection.

Mancini’s decision confirms that he is far from untouchable – regardless of form and performances on the pitch. City’s fluidity and goal power without him also demonstrates that Mancini can afford to tinker with the rich talent at his disposal and get results.

Four games in the next eleven days is indicative of City’s schedule and Fantasy investors are set to be left dreading the arrival of Mancini’s teamsheet for much of the season. Presumably we’ll see Dzeko take the field against Napoli on Wednesday; does that endanger his start at Fulham next Sunday? Gameweek six looks even more uncertain – Everton at home, Bayern Munich three days later. Where does Mancini shift Dzeko to fit into that puzzle?

His owners will be left asking the question week after week; can he deliver regularly enough to warrant such a level of anxiety?

Suddenly the dull security offered by the likes of Darren Bent looks attractive – an unglamorous ex, but while an unreliable Dzeko can gave us fireworks, Bent will never stand us up. Perhaps penny pinching up front is futile – Luis Suarez aside, perhaps we have to spend big to win big with our forwards?

So many questions remain, in truth we know very little from today’s events – the only thing that is certain is uncertainty. We suspected as much from Mancini – now we know for sure. Dzeko is at the mercy of the Italian’s tactical whims. He’s not the only one – it remains to be seen how many Fantasy managers are willing to play along.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

🙂 A few mini-leaguers of mine left Aquero in from week one - not a care in the world about the threat of rotation or the influence of possible inclusions such as Dzeko and Tevez.

Scores of 60 - 85 are not uncommon unfortunately.

The desire to get in Arsenal coverage undid me - particularly as I binned Baines...

The way players are priced at the moment, I was thinking of doing-

    RVP > Aguero
    Dzeko > Adebayor
    Bale > Silva

... for an 8 point hit, leaving me with 0 in the bank. Wise or not worth the point hit?

Mate, i did a 12 point hit last week:

      Nani->Arteta
      Suarez->RVP

TBH mate i posted last week in arteta's absence that baines becomes a factor

HOWEVER...only through blind luck on current form will they keep cleanies...and they won't get pens every week. They do have a nice fixture next week so wouldn't be the worst move ever...i mean wigan are relying on Franco '2 goals a season' di santo (he already has 2 goals for this year)

This place is good for the articles and stats but there are so many id1ots around with sh1t vision. Do what you want to, i think it will pay dividends.

Should have had 2 more pens and about 9 assists. Pure gold. Bonus to come by the sound of things.

I shall keep him through the horrendous fixtures that come up.

Anyone looking to get him in can still have the big 3 up top with 1 or 2 heavies in MF. Lets face it. Only Silva and Young are justifying their price tags in that department and I don't see things changing drastically.

    8 point hit taken
Suarez - klasnic (absolute class, Suarez - Ff gold, appears not)
Bos - warnock (I'd decided to do this last week to pick up the price rises) and
    Cleverly - nasri

    Vorm (ruddy)
    Warnock S Taylor Enrique
    Arteta nasri silva mata
    Rooney aguero klasnic

    That's how u combine fixtures & form - BOOM

i see kuyt dropped if gerrard starts, playing 4-2-3-1 with suarez on the right wing downing on the left gerrard in the middle and caroll up front
behind then henderson/adam and lucas playing deep

disagree with u, i watched the whole game live and they played really well, got done by the ref, as they should have had stone cold peno before the dubious stoke peno later.
On another day they would have scored 4-5 had more chances then the arsenal game for example completely on top for 90% of the game

Thinking Bent > Sturridge in gw6 myself - some goal yesterday. Bent not doing enough to warrant the £10.0m price tag at present - he has one more week v Newcastle next week. If he scores big then I have another selection headache.

I know we're all a bit puzzled by the price rises / falls, but I'm REALLY confused that both FISO and TFPL don't seem to have reset the counter on price rises ....... does the new gameweek (re price rises) only kick in after tomorrow?

Arteta and and Silva are in the high 90's, despite what I'd have thought was a new gameweek.

    Am I being a div?

That will make a mockery of the rule as the goalkeeper picked it up..technically though Walcott caused the keeper to pick the ball up which caused the goal....very far-fetched if you asked me. The same as Rooney's last week.

Silva is the most reliable and consistent attacking option in a minefield of rotation at City. Nasri or not, he will continue to deliver.

I got in Nasri - Silva could have had four assists yesterday; most of them when Nasri was not on the field. The assist for the third goal was exquisite though.

Reminds me of the situation I had last season - many got Young and I went Downing. Although I had good weeks I never felt scoring-wise that he had the upper hand over Young. We shall see...
