Neil Warnock needs a leader and makes Joey Barton the new QPR captain. Kevin Davies apologises to Tom Cleverley after a wayward tackle at the Reebok sidelined the Man United youngster. Andre Villas-Boas looks to ring the changes in Europe tonight, while an annoyed Rafael Van der Vaart expects to be ready for the weekend game with Liverpool. Here’s a few Scribbles this morning, folks:

QPR’s goalless draw at home to Newcastle last night saw Neil Warnock surprisingly hand the captain’s armband to Joey Barton, with previous skipper Adel Taarabt relinquishing duties. Warnock explained the reasoning behind the move:

“It was just a logical thing really. I had a chat with Adel last week. Adel was straight away right about it. He appreciates how far we have come now and that we need to drive on now. We need somebody as our leader.

Kevin Davies has apologised to Tom Cleverley for the tackle that has sidelined the Man United youngster for the next few weeks. Rumours circulated the internet that Cleverley had criticised the Trotters forward via Facebook after the challenge but Davies clarified the matter, revealing the pair have already spoken:

I didn’t realise after the game, so I put a call in to him and he was fine. I am pleased that there is no serious damage for him. By all accounts he had a fake [profile] saying I didn’t offer an apology. That’s why I got his number and put the call in. I actually texted him and he rang me back and said he had seen the tackle and didn’t think it was that bad.

Andre Villas-Boas admits he will have Sunday’s game at Man United when considering his Chelsea starting XI this evening. The Blues face Bayern Leverkusen and Ramires is suspended and while Didier Drogba continues to recover from concussion, Villas-Boas needs to decide whether to recall Fernando Torres or leave the out-of-sorts Spaniard on the bench:

You’ll see some changes. Then we’ll make wise decisions for Sunday.

Rafael Van der Vaart is not too happy with Harry Redknapp. The Dutchman has been left out of Spurs’ squad for the Europa League group stages and insists Redknapp’s decision came without any sort of warning . In a section under the headline “annoying” on his personal website Van der Vaart wrote:

I still think it’s a peculiar situation. Spurs could at least have consulted me. Anyway it’s up to the point of no return.

Van der Vaart also confirmed he expects to be available for this weekend’s match with Liverpool after intensive treatment on his problem hamstring.

Redknapp was dealt a bitter blow yesterday with the news that Michael Dawson is expected to be sidelined for two months with an Achilles injury picked up in training. Having released Jonathan Woodgate in the summer, the Spurs boss will be more reliant than ever on Ledley King right now; with William Gallas also injured, King and Younes Kaboul struck up a solid partnership in central defence last weekend in the 2-0 win at Wolves.

Liverpool look to be without Glen Johnson for at least another month. The right-back appeared late on in the game at Stoke but suffered a recurrence of the hamstring injury that has already plagued his start to the season. Kenny Dalglish faces a selection dilemma ahead of his side’s trip to Tottenham- Martin Kelly is also injured, leaving John Flanagan or Martin Skrtel as an option.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

You just know a 0-0 draw will produce the most amount of bp's because nothing much seperates them other than goals, assists and missed shots.

    Very very poor system.

Its quite ironic that people complained when some random geezer threw some darts at a dart board to decide the baps and that it wasnt based on anything. Now its based on stats and it seems to make even less sense.

        Bring back the dart board!

People always like a good moan.

Pretty much the whole populous was calling for a vice-captaincy last year but as soon as Rooney has helped some people we've got grumpiness about that too.

The vice captain system is still a good thing, it did hurt like hell this gameweek though.

I actually don't mind these EA Index as a way of dishing out bonus points but I think it's stupid that more than one player can get 3/2/1 bonus points, and it's even more stupid because of the unfortunate consequence that that is more likely in a shit game than in a great one. They should find ways to separate players next season imo.

Hell, I’m not a fan of the bonus system they are using, but handing them out willy nilly at least makes it a fun, complete mockery that you just have to laugh at. Stat’s don’t always show the whole picture. SWP was the biggest threat last night by a mile but the new system doesn’t recognise that. It actually makes the old bonus system look good – Even though there was often many a debate regarding them.

Something really has to be done about these BP's. It's getting to be a laughing stock in my opinion. How SWP or Luke Young got nothing was a joke.

Better option for me would be just to get rid completely, or have 3 for MOM and nothing else.

swp had shots off target and crosses that ddnt connect and shots saved by GK or s taylor. stuff like that make him lose pts although noone can argur that he wa the man of the match.
but i cnt understand where obertan's bonus came from, he was not worthy playing in league 1

      This season is ridiculous

BTW Young was far more effective going fwd than Obertan was.

How can they change the bonus points system and it now takes 24hrs to update? Last season it was all updated 1hr after game finished.

Such a shame as FPL was by far the best game available. I have 85 people in my main mini league. I am seriously tempted to do another game next season for us all. Any suggestions of which alternative is best???

Got 2 for Simpson but still not happy with the system (obviously). I've had like 10 man of the matches with no returns when last season it'd have likely been 3 points. 30 points shorter with this system. You are pretty much rewarded for no reason rather than educated gambles on players you think will play well.

It's also not helping that the results aren't doing their bit. The big scorers in GW1 are still the only real options, whereas some of the options that didn't do well in GW1, (Sinclair, N'Zogbia etc), are still not producing points either. This is helping the sheep accumulate large scores via their points-chasing method! 😀

The worst is people moaning about the price changes.

Nobody has any right whatsoever to complain about how and if prices switch.

If it was a public piece of information sure - but it's not.

I also agree with this. I dont think we should have the ability to be able to predict price changes etc, i think its part of the game having to make a decision whether to transfer in early to beat a potential rise. I think having access to stats etc is fine if your that committed to the game but knowing price changes is a bit too much of an advantage over the casual players.

If you play both the attacking and defensive option, then it increases the likelihood of you getting points from ONE of the options, which is decent enough really. It's not like each week we are expecting all 11 players to score 5+ points. If only 6 or 7 do so, then you're reasonably happy. 🙂

On the EA PPI site index thing, S Taylor is listed as having a score of 75

If you look at the FPL site he is listed as having a score of 74 (15, 30, 17, 12)

    Why?

Well, the grass is always greener. People moaned about the arbitrary nature of the bonus system last season, only to now be left with a system in which the best players (by all accounts SWP last night) get nothing.

I preferred the old 'man in the stands' system but it is what it is. Strangely last night's game and today's allocation of BPs to Simpson and Barton is the first piec of luck I've had this season. Hopefully it signifies a sea change in my FPL fortunes generally.

I like that BP's are being given out based on stats.

I don't like the statistic system that is being used though.

If they adopt a better system than the EA PPI, which allows a greater evaluation of performance, and larger differences between players to avoid too many ties for bonus, then I'm a happy Angel! 🙂

I always like the old bonus point system. I know some people moaned about it but it was usually right. It also made certain players who you wouldn't normally consider more appealing.

I liked them too. Ok, they messed up a couple of times, like giving the wrong Diouf bonus points, but most of the time they were agreeable.

The old system I would say got about 80% of the bonus points right. The new system about 20%.

The weighting of minus points for shots off target is obviously wrong and I'm sure there are other factors that need adjusting as well.

          Yours,

Bitter SWP and S Taylor owner.

TBH, I thought Taarabt was in with a good shout with MoM, a toss up between him and SWP imo.

Can't you in your semi-official capacity "have a word" with FPL about their ridiculous new bonus points system. The points for this 0-0 are absurd and even worse is the fact that if a player scores, they are pretty much guaranteed points regardless of how they played whereas there are other examples of players being clear man-of-the-match but getting nothing. I can't think of the mattches but players like Moses, Sessegnon, Suarez (one I know because I had them) have stood out in games this season. I know that the old system caused controversies but it generally created good nature banter and debate whereas this system is just causing people to say "god know how "Player X" got BPs but, who cares, I have got him"

But the BP's don't "add" anything to the game anymore. You alredy have points for scoring goals or assisting, so why give BP's on top of that for the same thing? The old BP's used to give credit for other aspects of the game, such as "playing well". Players like Modric who, maybe, plays a bit deep and therefore doesn't get many goals / assists but was still one of the best players in the PL last year, used to get BP's so he was an option. Now, a player can literally do nothing, score a scuffed penalty (won by others) to win the game and get the 3 BPs on top of the goal points. What's the point of that?
