Richard Dunne is full of praise for the new Aston Villa regime. Shaun Wright-Phillips promises QPR fans there’s plenty more to come, while Sir Alex Ferguson reassures Dimitar Berbatov over future game time. Owen Coyle looks to ring the changes ahead of the game with Norwich and Martin Jol admits starting Bryan Ruiz against Blackburn was a big mistake. Here’s some Scribbles for this morning, folks:

Sir Alex Ferguson has promised Dimitar Berbatov he will get his fair share of playing time this season. Fergie rang the changes last night for Man United’s trip to Benfica but chose to play Wayne Rooney as a lone forward, before introducing Javier Hernandez to the proceedings. The Bulgarian was left on the bench throughout but the United boss promised he will feature:

It is hard because of the number of strikers we have. Michael Owen is there, Federico Macheda, Mame Biram Diouf. Danny Welbeck won’t be back next week but probably the week after. It is not easy. Dimitar has been training terrific. His attitude is spot on. He will get his game time as the season wears on. There is no question about that.

Bolton’s Stuart Holden moved another step closer to his return to first-team football last night. The midfielder played 90 minutes for Bolton’s reserves as he recovers from a serious knee injury sustained in March.

Owen Coyle has hinted he’s ready to make a few changes to the Bolton side this weekend. With the Trotters 5-0 home hammering by Man United still fresh in the memory, Coyle is desperate to bounce back in the upcoming home game with Norwich and admitted he may freshen things up, particularly at the back:

We made a few changes against United but time will tell whether we need more. We do have players now we know can step into the breach, so that’s what we’ll look to do.

In an attacking sense we were fine. It was against the ball, and it was rare for us because we are usually good against the ball. We didn’t do that well enough. We have to look at that game and know we can defend better than that.

Steve Kean has been talking up Blackburn new boy Scott Dann. The former Birmingham player made his Rovers debut last weekend at Fulham and his new boss is delighted with the qualities he has brought to the back-line:

Scotty does what it says on the tin. He heads it, he kicks it, he talks, he’s a leader and I think he has got a willingness to win. I thought for his first game for us he was excellent, he showed all the qualities he’s got.

Richard Dunne claims Aston Villa have rediscovered their spirit since the departure of Gerard Houllier. The Irishman was one of a number of Villa players who clashed with Houllier last season and reckons the place is a far better place this term under Alex McLeish.

Last season wasn’t a good one. I didn’t enjoy the season and I didn’t enjoy coming into the place. I didn’t enjoy the atmosphere around the whole club and I think it showed on the weekends.

Coming back and working with a new manager and a different atmosphere has given some people a new lease of life. There is an enthusiasm around the place. I think you can see from the team already that we are not the soft touch who roll over in games that maybe we were last year.

Villa will have to make do without Emile Heskey for the next three weeks or so- the striker suffered a hamstring injury at Everton last weekend. Heskey has started every league game so far for Villa and although Alex McLeish sees his loss as a significant blow, he’s challenged others to step up and grab the opportunity:

Emile’s got a nick in his hamstring and that’s not an overnight job, so it will be a few weeks – two to three, maybe even longer. Whether he’s a quick healer, I don’t know his history. We could ill afford to lose vital members from the squad but it’s a challenge for somebody else.

Shaun Wright-Phillips has promised there’s plenty more to come from him as he edges near match-fitness. The winger has a strong QPR debut on Monday and, speaking to the club’s official website, is filled with confidence for the season ahead:

I feel I am a bit off (the pace) at the moment. I need a few more games under my belt to get my match-fitness and sharpness back. With the team playing the way they did and helping me settle in very quickly, that made it pretty easy.

It’s the first game that we’ve all played together. As long as we keep playing like that and the better we get to know each other, then the better we’re going to do.

Martin Jol has admitted he erred in starting Bryan Ruiz last weekend. The Costa Rican made his first start for Fulham following his big-money move from FC Twente but looked completely ill at ease with the pace of the game and had to be replaced at half time.

In hindsight, I would have started Moussa and then brought him on because he’s good when there’s a lot of pressure on the goal, space in the box, and Bryan Ruiz probably would have given us a lot second half.

It’s always difficult – if you come to the Premier League – your first game. I wouldn’t say it’s a gamble but you have to start somewhere and that was a decision we had to make and I made the decision to play him.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Is it insane to consider captaining adebayor this week? Can be a major differential if he pulled it off.. Anyone know if he wil be taking penalties?

What's the thoughts about nzog? Can see him playing further upfront with heskey out and about time he deliver some score playing former clubs? Or no more love for him n ditch?

Just received this Toungue in Cheek letter of Complaint regarding our mini league (N.B. We run a manager of the week money competition in conjunction with our manager of the season competition):

    "Mr Walker,

As you are the money man in fantasy league land, could I submit an official complaint?

The nature of my complaint is the fact that one of my players scored a hatrick who also happened to be
MY captain amassing a whooping 34 points on his lonesome!

Is the game rigged so I cannot win?

Thank you for your time and co-operation."

      My tongue in cheek reply:

"John, the problem is that 11 of the 20 managers in our mini-league also captained a player who scored a hat-trick. You were 1 of 3 to captain Aguero whereas an additional 8 managers captained a certain Wayne Rooney.

Congratulations to all of you for making a wonderful armband call, but as such the onus was on the rest of your team to outperform those other 10 managers with hat-trick scoring captains. Unfortunately your team came short in this endeavour…

Your 68 points did not surpass Thomas’ 75 points… I’m sure you will not begrudge him his victory, I mean how could we when not only did he captain Rooney but in an obvious hustle, he deliberately fielded Phil Neville ahead of Aguero only for dear Phil not to play at all and be automatically substituted out for yet another hat-trick hero i.e. SERGIO BLOODY AGUERO!

I take no repsonibility for incredible luck and/or unimaginative captain selections 😛 "

It's bloody typical. Firstly RVP scores thanks to a Walcott assist (I have both) in Dortmund, after doing nothing at home to Swansea, and then Kolarov scores yet another goal in cup competitions after doing precisely nothing for me in 20 weeks in FPL last season.

I have currently got Dzeko. I am sticking with Dzeko / RVP / Rooney this week (I think) but thinking about RVP > Aguero after that. I may keep Dzeko or switch him to someone like Sturridge depending on what happens this weekend.

But, yes, I think Aguero will be good value

Wasn't warming up properly whatsoever before he came, presumably why Mancini left it so late until he brought him on. And when he did come he barely put in any effort at all, and kept giving the ball away.

'Pathetic' was a little too much, but it was good from Tevez. The commentators weren't very impressed.

I see that people on here are predicting that Aguero will be benched this weekend. I assume that these are the same people who were predicting that he would be benched last weekend?

It looks to me that Aguero will be THE MAIN MAN this year, like Tevez was previously, i.e. he wil play every game as long as he is fit except, maybe, domestic cups and dead rubber CL qualifiers, etc.

Therefore, any rotation will be between Dzeko, Tevez and occasionally Balotelli.

    Agreed?

The problem is, last week I listened to people on here who had anlysed his movements during the Inty break about why Aguero would obviously be on the bench and Dzeko would play. I also listened to people on here about how RVP was the logical captain pick (miles ahead on the poll) Meanwhile my oblivious rivals just captained Aguero or Rooney and moved another 30 points ahead of me!!

My decisions ultimately, I know, but its annoying isn't it!

You can predict what you may. Fact is that at this point in the season, no one knows exactly how the rotation is going to work out.

Could have gone either way last week with Ag vs. Dz.

RVP I would still (C) vs. Swans this week. It was a sound choice. That's the nature of the game my friend.

I'm with you. I think Aguero will be the man for City this year, and I think it's clear from the banter around here that no one knows who is starting in Mancini's frontline. Go with your gut.

He's been one of your best players, would be crazy to drop him.. although Young vs Bosingwa would be pretty funny. You think: Ivan Luiz Terry Cole ?

This is true, and he does usually struggle against United - especially Nani, although there's no guarantee that he'll actually play. Bosingwa just simply can't defend, he was poor on Tuesday and going forward was pretty poor too, his crossing was absolutely dreadful.

You're not gonna abandon your 'form > fixtures' philosophy are you?

I remember you said a few weeks ago you were throwing the fixture list out the window and picking the form players. Must have served you well recently?

Argh, you're right. It's just hard playing any player against Utd at OT. Bosingwa only got 1 point last week, does that count as a form dip? 😉

    Right serious debate....

This whole pro-evo Fifa debate, which is better?

Since the days of the N64 I have been a pro-evolution fan. Yeah FIFA has always had the glossy finishes (graphics, licences, good marketing) but for 10 years or more pro-evolution was always the better of the two when it came down to playability. I really don't care much about esthetics, for me it's always been about playability for me.

This year I am stuck with the increasingly difficult issue of deciding is it time to switch to the "dark side" and join the masses or stick with pro-evolution. I argue that without pro-evolution FIFA would not be the game it is today, affectively it copied it and improved 1 or two aspects of the game but has always felt a little off. Scoring goals being the main issue, pro-evo has always been satisfying in that respect.....FIFA on the other hand feels light and fake when it came down to shooting.

I have stuck with many pro-evo glitches, over seen the randomness of the outer shell of the game (transfers/licenses/crazy music/league formats) because I love the playability. Now the newest instalment of FIFA looks set to over take Pro-evo.....or will it?!?!?

    Stick or twist?!?!?

      twist

i reluctantly changed to fifa 2 years ago after being a pro evo fan since the snes, had it every year till abou 2009 when fifa took over, apparently some fifa got some pro evo crew on board a few years ago to jazz it up

but i feel it is a bit better to be frank, didn't play the new pro evo demo yet, but new fifa one is awesome

I think Adam is a bit overpriced. When Gerrard is back he will also be taken of alot of set piesces. BUT Adam is a good player, so you never know. He's much better than Walcott (also 9m)

Herein lies the problem with many professional footballers

"I didn’t enjoy the season and I didn’t enjoy coming into the place. I didn’t enjoy the atmosphere around the whole club and I think it showed on the weekends." - Richard Dunne

"I didnt enjoy the season" - all of this I didnt enjoy is ok and even understandable, but "and I think it showed on the weekends" is just plain unexcusable. You are being paid millions, living a dream many would only attain in their wildest imaginations. Even if you are not enjoying it, put a f***in smile on your face and go at it 1000% percent. Convince us all that you are the happiest man on earth because at the end of the day, you are much more priveleged than 99% of the people on this planet. Hate people like him.
