The Watchlist rankings, offering our top 10 player recommendations for the coming weeks, have today been updated to reflect recent form and forthcoming fixtures. You can soak them up now in the right-hand sidebar.

With both Manchester clubs still shredding through defences and budget back fours keeping sheets clean with regularity, we’re seeing template Fantasy squads created across the board. That trend might yet be disturbed by improved fixtures for the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool however, and their Fantasy assets remain key factors in our Watchlist rankings.

Newcastle’s fine defensive form is hard to ignore and is reflected in the Watchlist immediately; Tim Krul making a small climb to the top of our keeper rankings. Available for 4.6 in the Fantasy Premier League game, the Dutch stopper rotates well with the prosperous Michel Vorm for the next few Gameweeks, offering a strong solution between the sticks.

West Brom’s Ben Foster and Fulham’s Mark Schwarzer are another partnership that appears to gel nicely, they also boast strong fixtures over the next month. Wigan’s Ali Al-Habsi also remains a viable budget option, with City’s Joe Hart the obvious route should you wish to invest heavily in a keeper. Arsenal’s Wojciech Szczęsny is arguably the most sensible selection for those taking a gamble on the Arsenal back four over their spell of favourable fixtures.

City’s Vincent Kompany and Chelsea’s Jose Bosingwa remain our top selections amongst the defenders – fixtures fall in their favour and both seem to remain immune to the rotation going on around them. Newcastle’s back four is represented by Steven Taylor in our Watchlist, although Ryan Taylor arguably offers stronger short-term potential while Davide Santon remains troubled by injury. Danny Simpson is your cheap alternative, although he tends to offer little goal threat.

Fulham’s John Arne Riise and Liverpool’s Jose Enrique complete our Watchlist back five – both can be found in the mid-price bracket and have yet to deliver on their promise. Fixtures do fall more favourably for the pair however, and both possess attacking instincts from left-back which should see profits soon enough.

David Silva continues to look bomb-proof at the top of the midfielder rankings – seemingly untouchable within Roberto Mancini’s squad, the Spanish trickster has maintained returns and is just about to embark on a run of matches which should increase his output further.

Chelsea’s Juan Mata is perhaps Silva’s biggest pretender – like City, Andre Villa-Boas’ side have a favourable run of opponents to come and Mata, as the midfield creator, is lined up for some decent numbers. Right now, that earns him a higher ranking than Nani – our current preferred option in the Nani vs Ashley Young debate within the United ranks.

Shaun Wright-Phillips – the subject of today’s ICT Analysis article for Members – soars into our top five, with Newcastle’s Yohan Cabaye also well-fancied over the coming weeks, having so far been denied Fantasy returns, despite some impressive displays. We’ve more on him and Juan Mata, to come in future articles.

The Forward rankings remain largely untouched. It’s impossible to topple Wayne Rooney from top spot right now – despite a run of opponents that will surely test his form and United’s goal-getting talents.

Sergio Aguero is sticking close to the United man, with Arsenal’s Robin Van Persie in third with the fixture list offering him a platform that will surely see him begin to up his Fantasy returns. Luis Suarez holds in our top five, despite three consecutive blanks. We’re keeping the faith with Uruguayan ahead of a run of favourable Anfield clashes to come in the next six gameweeks.

Emmanuel Adebayor, Daniel Sturridge
and Leon Best are the big climbers and present worthy differentials going into the coming weeks. Adebayor has been a hugely popular transfer target of late and, of the three, has the proven pedigree. Daniel Sturridge, at just 6.5 in the FPL and with a strong schedule in front of him, is perhaps the most intriguing. We should see heightened interest in him if he can draw blood when Swansea visit the Bridge this weekend, although tonight’s start in the Carling Cup against Fulham will immediately put a question mark over his starting role for the weekend.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I haven't watched a Norwich game yet this year, what's the consensus on Johnson? I'm trying to find 1mil (not having Kompany is feeling like an error) from somewhere and the obvious candidate for the chop is Jarvis if I can find a cheapie that rotates with Dyer. To be honest there doesn't seem to be a whole lot in the 6m mids because there are so many options in that bracket.

Gah - getting ahead of myself. That last sentence should read:

WTF IS GOING ON? I definitely wrote it correctly that time.

To be honest there doesn’t seem a whole lot in the <5.5m bracket and part of me thinks I should keep my two 6m mids because there are more chop and change options.

I'm keeping hold of Sinclair, Jarvis and Brunt for now. I figure I'll start Walcott and Mata the next couple weeks and just rotate two of them. Will hopefully get points out of one of them!

Wouldn't Mata or Walcott on the bench be a lot of unused cash sitting on the bench though? I don't know what to do about Walcott. I've got him myself and I want to get rid of him but then I look at his fixtures. It's all confusing!

I'm sticking with Walcott for now, but that's mainly because I don't wanna take a hit to bring in Nani/Young/Silva, which I know is silly, because they're all on fire.

At the moment I'm on Jarvis and Brunt, Brunt is going to get a few more weeks but Jarvis isn't really looking up to snuff. Either I downgrade to Johnson and bring in Kompany for Warnock or I stick to someone in the 6m bracket - probably Cabaye.

Hang on a minute on Jarvis - he was injured for one game and then Wolves had a stinker.
You can't expect a 6mill player to score 14 every week can you?
It's not even as if he has particularly bad fixtures either. Get a grip.

I don't expect him to score 14 every week, I would settle for 4ppg, but in my opinion he is less likely to do that than other players of a comparable price with comparable fixtures. Not that I have any obligation to justify myself to rude idiots on the internet.

Before you go accusing people of 'being idiots' I think you need to do a little simple maths.

Jarvis is currently averaging 5.2 ppg.

LOL well you certainly can't work out averages using figures from the future, now can you Stilicho? 😉

I happen to think Larsson and Barton are looking great value at the moment, but as a Jarvis owner I can't see the point in wasting a transfer on one weakish potential for another.

I think it's the tense that is confusing you, when I said "less likely to" you seem to have read "less likely to have done". Calculating averages is easy, contextualising them is the tricky bit. I contextualise them one way, you contextualise them another, there's no need for comments like "get a grip".

For example over the last two seasons your average finish is 88,680. It doesn't necessarily folow that you won't do significantly better or worse this time around.

Johnson has probably been our player of the year so far. I thought he would be a robust CDM, but he's playing quite well as a midfield anchor. His passing has been pretty spot on. But it isn't really converting itself into points, bar his goal last week against Bolton. He did have one long range scorcher against West Brom two weeks ago that just shaved the post, but he doesn't carry a huge goal threat. IMO, go with Brunt or even Barton. I think Brunt can work his way back into the team so go with him. Plus he costs 6m.

I'll have a peek at my rotation - if I can reasonably play 4 at the back some weeks instead of bringing on Johnson then maybe I can make it work.

I currently have Johnson and Dyer. I think its a pretty sound option because they do rotate quite well together. This, and 3 cheapo defenders that i can rotate allows me to have a 'big 5' of RVP, Rooney, Aguero, Silva and Mata. Ive only brought Johnson in this week tho so yet to be road tested but I think its definately a viable tactical option.

The guy is a hugely frustrating FPL player. I remember when WBA had a DGW (both at home) last year he was brought in by the bucket load and did nothing in the subsequent few weeks then after a mass exodus started scoring again.

I see, didn't see the context. Imagined you were on a wildcard or planning to ship both in. Obviously keep Nani. Rooney and Young is plenty of United coverage. Bring in Silva.

Similar dilemma myself. Been planning to ship Baines to bring in funds. If you need the funds that looks about as solid move as there is. New have decent fixtures and Taylor looks like good value.

            Eh?

I have previously said if I had Aguero I'd captain him. I don't. If I had Silva (like in GW1) I'd also captain him. I don't.

As is, I may have to go with Suarez, RVP or Mata. Rooney and Young have a tricky away game, Dzeko is (still) a rotation risk, Adebayor could be good but again he is way from home and Spurs are erratic while Mata is yet to prove he is captaincy material.

        It is true.

His last such appearance was against Chelsea in Sep 2008. Since then he has came on as a sub against Sunderland for the last 5 mins towards the end of the 2009-2010 season. Last season he played the first 5 mins of a game against Wolves. That is the extent of his apps for United over the last 3 years.

🙁 I think if he can stay fully fit he's better than the other City centre mids (Yaya, De Jong, Barry). May be controversial but 😛

Interesting news from Germany - Schalke 04 coach Ralf Rangnick has just resigned on medical grounds (exhaustion) after only six months in charge.

And a belated reply to Leysh: Hamburger SV's major target as their new trainer currently isn't Marco van Basten, but Morten Olsen, although the Danish F.A. are unlikely to let him do the job at the same time as being the Danish national coach.

Got 2 free transfers this week, not sure what to do with them. Actually quite happy with the look of my team for the next few GW's even if they have not been performing for me recently overall. Would quite like to get Silva/ Aguero in for Dzeko/Nasri, but it means a 4 point hit and also getting rid of RVP. Any other suggestions how i can use 1 or 2 transfers wiseley this week?

if you only have the 4.0 to spend then swans are out i guess. unless you wanted to go given to vorm (vorm and ruddy rotate well) and then you have the extra to go de leat for warnock ( if you wanted to keep the Villa coverage).
Another option is just straight swap De Laet for Gabbidon if you wanted to go with QPR.

    Bosingwa Kompany Simpson (Brown)(Senderos)
    Silva Brunt Moses N’Zogbia (Dyer)
    Suarez RvP Rooney

    A) N’Zobgia to SWP/Ramsey/Cabeye or Ben Arfa?
    And save the transfer??

    or

Ah... This is a non-FPL query! It's Metro.

Got Silva, Nasri and Young, Mata's classified as a forward and Nani's too expensive. Also, points get racked up for all kind of actions, so Lamps and Stevie G should be in the points...

      neither

Baines crap fixtures and not scoring well. I have doubts about Artetas consistency.

Enrique in leaky defence and no the bargain everyone seems to think he is. Lampard terrible value.

Baines did that against QPR (who didn't have the majority of their new team) Blackburn, Villa (both playing poorly) and Wigan (enough said)
He will be lucky to get half of his total so far between now and GW11.

        Awesome? I don't think so. It's a solid team.

        The strikeforce is lethal.
The goalkeepers and defence is bargain bin material.
The midfield is good but still 2 of them are very decent midfielders in the game but bad FPL players i.e. Anderson and Modric.

Upson is the least of your worries with Ferguson and De Laet in the team

Ferguson enables me to have a strong attack though. If I strengthen the defence andd an attacker doesnt play - then I can always revert to a 4 - 4 - 2

But Ferguson is like someone taking 4.0 off your budget and only allowing you to have 4 midfielders.

          Not a good idea.

Mhmm, how does that work when your 3 reserves are rubbish?
If you can afford Upson > Bosingwa why not upgrade Ferguson instead?
Once injuries and postponements kick in, you will know why Ferguson is a stupid choice

ferguson is a complete waste at the end of seaosn a decent bench could make a big difference to your final total

As long as you have 14 usual starters, there is scope for the extra £0.5m to be used elsewhere more effectively.

Yep, because De Laet didnt get rotated last week and Upson isnt second choice to Woodgate or anything?
As I said, once injuries and postponements kick in, you will know why Ferguson is useless and there are others well worth the .5 extra

Thought it looks pretty obvious where the money is, I have both Dzeko and Aguero, Young and Nani, Silva and Adebayor. 6.5 is also invested in Taarabt as well, but I am going to be patient with him. In fairness i'd rather have quality 14 players (hence why I am looking to transfer out Upson) than spend money on Fergusons replacement who will just be sitting on the bench.

If injuries and suspensions occur I will just use a free transfer.

I have 1.9m to spend, and am thinking of upgrading to Bosingwa, although instincts tell me Luiz will get more points if he plays regularly. Any Chelsea fans help me out on this one?

I missed the Liverpool game last night but read the report. Noticed Suarez got the assist to Bellamys goal, but how did he look in general? My current forwards are Dzeko Rooney and Suarez. Dzeko didnt play so hes looking good for the weekend, but Im still thinking Suarez>Adebayor. Hes cheaper, i think will return similar points over coming fixtures even if Suarez and Liverpool do hit some form, and has more scope for price rises. Is there any positives to not making that change?

I hope we do Daniel. However the change would mean im in the Adebayor and Dzeko group, the much cheaper options that seem to have similar potentials. I really am confused on this one.

Suarez > Adebayor is a waste considering form and fixtures. Adebayor has not been that much better than Suarez (if at all)...he has just been luckier imo
