The Gameweek Captain Poll is in full swing with well over 1000 votes already collected. Yet again we’ve got a clear four-horse race, a tussle dominated by the big-scoring forwards, with familiar names rotating at the top.

City’s Sergio Aguero leads matters – a situation no doubt compounded by Roberto Mancini’s decision to bench him last night while Carlos Tevez and Mario Balotelli led the charge on Birmingham in the Carling Cup. Aguero looks set to start against Everton on Saturday, regardless of the looming trip to Munich in the Champions League next Tuesday.

Almost 100 votes separate the Argentine from Robin Van Persie; the Arsenal striker has the pedigree and the fixture to rip it up for his Fantasy owners at the weekend, but nagging doubts remain. Arsenal’s form continues to stutter and the Dutchman is yet to ignite in Fantasy terms. Bolton’s defence has gaping holes to exploit but there will be concern that, even if Arsenal capitalise, Van Persie will take on the role of provider rather than the executioner.

Liverpool’s Luis Suarez is another who has work to do to claim a place back in our hearts. The date with Wolves at Anfield looks crucial, not only for Liverpool’s confidence following the White Hart Lane spanking, but also for Suarez, after slipping to three consecutive blanks. We’ve seen heavy sales of the Uruguayan this week – we’d expect that to accelerate should he fail to notch against Mick McCarthy’s side. With 13% of our vote so far, there are still plenty backing him to come good.

Inevitably, Wayne Rooney completes our top four. Despite cruising for a bruising with a trip to the Britannia, the on-fire Rooney has a swell of support prepared to hand him another armband. Who can blame them? Nine goals in five matches have seen the United man soar to the top of the scoring charts, on the verge of earning “essential” status in Fantasy terms. If you have him, back him – it’s paid off in spades so far.

Midfield prospects Juan Mata and David Silva look promising but perhaps not quite enough to break the big strikers’ monopoly; it’s hard to imagine either making ground in the Poll, given the ownership of the men above them. There’s still time though – plenty of votes to be gathered. Make yours count on the homepage before Saturday’s deadline.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Aguero or Rooney (c)?

I'm thinking Rooney. Stoke are looking tired - too many games for the same players. Aguero vs. Bouyant Everton with a very very good record at eastlands...

    Thoughts?

I don't get this Stoke tired thing at all. They played tues night in the UK, it's not exactly thu night europa trip to russia. Stoke always get fired up at the Britannia when Utd visit, and this game will be no different. Out of Rooey and Aguero it has to be Aguero this week.

Aguero over Rooney no doubt. However, regarding the 'Stoke tired thing'- they've played on Thursday (abroad), Sunday and Tuesday (plus ET) with similar teams. Whole new experience for them and it'd a heavy schedule for anyone especially with the Champions ( 🙂 ) to come on the weekend- fatigue will surely be a factor compounded with what is sure to be intense chasing around United.

"I don’t get this Stoke tired thing at all"

        Last 10 days:

        20 September - Carling Cup - Stoke 0-0 Tottenham (ET + Pens)
        18 September - Premier League - Sunderland 4-0 Stoke
15 September - Uefa Europa League - Dynamo Kiev 1-1 Stoke
        10 September - Premier League - Stoke 1-0 Liverpool

That's tiring for a relatively small first X1. They can't rotate like some of the 'larger' prem clubs...

Did Everton's first team not play 120mins last night?

Cancels out any silly hope that Stoke will be tired making Rooney a better pick than Aguero.

Stoke have a big squad, they can rotate, Everton can't and have a day less to recover.

The captains always matter, it makes or breaks a season.

Got Rooney and Aguero, will swap back and forth depending on fixtures, safest way I think.

Baines last week was the final straw.

It's logical to boot him if he can't do well in this game.

Thing with Walcott is that he's a 7.5m player who costs 9m.

Can understand Wenger not wanting to start both Walcott and Gervinho. Too much stupidity on the pitch.

Agree with the 2 to drop. Both not performing. If you have the money I'd go for Aguero (not RVP) based on form and get Arteta in if you want Arsenal coverage - has shown his potential / influence in last games, and much more certain to play than Walcott

It's not the greatest fixture, but Rooney's scored in every game, and picked up bonus in all but one - that includes Chelsea, where without the penalty miss he was on for 13 points.

I believe in him too jguti14. I think he'll score more than 5 points, which is my record for captains this season.

Yes. Then again, I've never had more than 5 points from my captain this season.

I'd do Nzog to someone like SWP, Taarabt, Brunt (around 6.5), then upgrade G Cahill to Bosingwa or Kompany.

You can only play 7 of your 8 mids and forwards in any one week, so I'd downgrade one of your 6 million ish mids (Petrov, Larsson or Cabaye, I'd sell Cabaye) to some one like Dyer (4.7) or Moses (5.0), and spend the money on your defence.

your defense is a bit shambolic...

dg petrov to dyer and upgrade one of ur defs...i would also switch given to krul to free up more cash he rotates better with vorm anyway

my team is quite similar apart from aguero:

          krul (vorm)

          bos jones warnock (ward taylor)

          silva mata young cabaye (dyer)

          dzeko adebayor rooney

    Al-Habsi

    Aguero Bent Rooney

    Begovic (Sub)
    De Laet (Sub)
    Huth (Sub)
    Reo-Coker(Sub)

0.4m in the bank and 1 free transfer, any ideas for this coming week? and will bent play?

Erm, im sure ive seen people saying that Ruddy Vorm is a decent keeper combo, how exatly? From GW 9 they play at home and away on the same day, thats not great in my book.

till gw 18 you can start vorm about 9 times and expect a clean sheet, with ruddy startin this weekend.. only about 3-4 times will i have to face one of em against a tough opponent

I really like him, but for not too much more cash you can get Adebayor or Dzeko. He's also been managing that ankle injury, so could miss the odd game (although he's been sitting out the European games to keep him fresh for the league).

    Given Vorm
Brown Smalling S.Taylor De Laet Enrique
    Jarvis Dyer Moses Silva Young
    Rooney Aguero Suarez
Already done Senderos to Brown to kind of fix up my defence a little. Can anyone shine some light on why De Laet didnt play last week? Obviously my midfield needs repair but i dont really want to take a hit this week. Opionions and suggestions welcome. Who to bench?
    Thanks
