Javier Hernandez is passed fit for Man United’s game at Stoke tomorrow. Darren Bent complains about his lack of service at Villa as Stiliyan Petrov promises goals. Alan Pardew confirms his central role plans for Hatem Ben Arfa, Kenny Dalglish admits no one is guaranteed a start at Liverpool and Andre Villas-Boas talks up Oriol Romeu, after a brilliant Carling Cup performance. Here’s some Scribbles for this morning:

With one goal in his first five games, it’s little wonder Darren Bent has been complaining about Aston Villa’s style under Alex McLeish. While Villa remain unbeaten in the league, there’s no doubt Big Eck has yet to find a system to suit his star striker- at the moment, Gabby Agbonlahor has been the stand-out forward for McLeish’s side, scoring three of their six league goals to date. Bent complained yesterday:

We have to find the right balance for the team to be solid an offensive. When you are a striker, you are used to scoring left, right and centre and when the ball is not coming and you are not getting as many opportunities, then it is going to play on your mind.

While Bent is frustrated, Stiliyan Petrov has been reveling in his more attacking role for Villa. The Bulgarian was known for his goalscoring ability north of the border with Celtic but has played more defensively since his move to the Midlands. Alex McLeish is determined to rediscover the player’s eye for goal and Petrov is more than happy to oblige:

Hopefully they’ll be more to follow after that one at Goodison Park. I know it’s something I am capable of. After all, I scored more than 60 when I was at Celtic. In those days I frequently ventured into the final third of the pitch but now it’s a bit strange, not having done it for a while. Just bear with me while I get used to it again.

Carlos Tevez has been left out of Argentina’s squad for next month’s World Cup qualifiers against Chile and Venezuela. As expected, Sergio Aguero is included on the 24-man list and with the games coming thick and fast for Man City, Tevez could see further league game time as Roberto Mancini looks to keep Aguero fresh.

Hatem Ben Arfa may have returned to first-team action in the midweek Carling Cup clash with Nottingham Forest, but Alan Pardew has been quick to downplay expectations. Although the Frenchman won’t be rushed back into a Newcastle starting role for tomorrow’s home match with Blackburn, Pardew did admit there is a chance Ben Arfa could feature from the bench. Pardew also explained how he intends to utilize Ben Arfa in his team, an indication that he could be a real out-of-position proposition this Fantasy season:

My view is he can’t play out wide. He has not got the relish for it and his best football comes through the middle.

Kenny Dalglish revealed his team’s performance at Brighton in midweek has given him a real selection headache ahead of tomorrow’s home game with Wolves.

Those who played did everything to help themselves and make it difficult for me to pick the team. That’s what we want. The boys gave themselves the best possible chance for selection by the way they played. We don’t have a team, we have a squad and there will be times when people play and others won’t. Sometimes you’ll be lucky and sometimes you’ll be unlucky.

Andre Villas-Boas has lavished praise on Oriol Romeu after the youngster’s Carling Cup performance against Fulham. The ex-Barcelona player excelled in the defensive midfield role as Chelsea battled Martin Jol’s side with ten men for seventy minutes, after Alex’s sending off:

He had an amazing game. His ability to receive the ball is something out of this world.Oriol was extraordinarily composed with the ball, receiving it straight from the goalkeeper under pressure, as you saw it. It shows the school where he was formed was fantastic. And it shows he can play his part in the Premier League.

After a man of the match performance in the Carling Cup win over Millwall, Adlene Guedioura has set his sights on regaining a place in the Wolves starting XI. The Algerian has recovered from minor ankle surgery and caught the eye with a goal and an assist in the 5-0 romp in midweek:

I was glad I played the full game and I am feeling good about my fitness.I want to play games now and hopefully I will get to play at Anfield if the gaffer needs me.

If you haven’t already noticed in our tweets, Javier Hernandez has been passed fit and is available to play in tomorrow evening’s game with Stoke. The Mexican was expected to be sidelined for around two weeks after Ashley Cole’s horror tackle at Old Trafford last weekend but has resumed training and Sir Alex Ferguson said in his press conference :

At the time it happened, he had no feeling in the leg. There was numbness and and we thought there might have been some nerve damage…He’s available for tomorrow.

Last minute captain nerves. I was set on Rooney, but i think this will be the week he doesn't score, or only gets 1. I think i'm going for Mata, and Adebayor vice; sound decent?

Jamsie P - Mata. Is he worth it?
I managed to fend off my rabid thoughts of bringing Torres in so now I only have Bosingwa [is he likely to play again?] from Chelsea. I fancy you to do well over the coming fixtures, so want to get Mata. Is he on set pieces or anything? And who the heckers takes your pennys when Fatty isn't cocking them up?

Bosingwa will definitely play, as will Mata.

I like Mata for the next few weeks too, and beyond that to be honest. His goalscoring/assist making record at Valencia is very good, and he's started his Chelsea career pretty well in that respect so far. He's taking virtually every corner and hit the post with a direct free kick against 5under1and, so I can't imagine anyone else taking the next few free kicks, especially with Drogba presumably out of the side.

As for penalties, it's a bit of a mystery. Anelka or Mata I'd say, and if I had to guess between the two I'd say Anelka.

I did the exact same, and sold Jarvis instead of Brunt. Ill probably ship Brunt next week anyway. The way I saw it: Brunt has been getting crap scores cos he has been rested/injured, whereas Jarvis has been playing and doing just as badly!

Mata is on free kicks, as you saw him hit the post with a free kick against Sunderland. Lamps, Drogba, Anelka, Kalou is the preference order for pens and Malouda, Mata and Lamps are on corners. Bosingwa will keep his place, Mata could be good value and Torres will be banging them in soon enough. We won a penalty shootout with ten men- we'll win the league cup.

It's classic United. Slur Alex did incredibly well to make all the post-match conversation about Cole's attempted block, when his team had scored two offside goals, had been given a penalty that clearly wasn't one, and had been given just about every decision there way throughout the entire match.

Saw someone on here thinking of doing this, and i like the idea as i am quite happy with my defence and attack for next two GW's, and it helps take advantage of the most favourable fixtures, basically the plan is:

Young --> Mata this week (kep walcott at home to bolton)
Walcott --> Nani/Young (bringing MU coverage back for Norwich at home)

    THoughts?

Young -> Nani gives you an extra .3 or 4. That will give you 0.5 in the bank which makes it easy to upgrade someone.

Personally, i don't think you need two Utd players with their upcoming fixtures (Norwich aside). I'd get Mata.

I think this is the most important so far in terms of catching up to the casuals. So many captain choices. The majority will be captaining Rooney, Silva or Aguero. If any of them have bad GWs, the people who gambled on the likes of Mata, Dzeko, Adebayor etc could reap the benefits... or what's more likely is the casual captains play amazing and the differentials all get sent off.

I'd worry about Marveaux taking his place. Much of a muchness between the two, Marveaux is a better player and cheaper for FPL (4.8) but Obertan has the starting place at the moment.

Can you find an extra few bob and get Ben Arfa for the long haul?

+1 Cabaye has been very unlucky not to score so far. He's going to have a boomer sooner or later. Finding Newcastle's likeable midfield very unsettling.

    afternoon all you football boffins,

    here's my conundrum:

i have Rooney and Suarez up front. i think Rooney might find it tough going this week so i'm leaning towards Suarez as my (C).

however, i also have Ward in defence so do i bench him and go 3-4-3 or risk him with a 4-3-3 with him facing my captain?

for the record, my team is:

    Krul (Howard)
    Kompany, Simpson, Gibbs, Ward, (Cahill)
Silva, Jarvis, Wright-Phillips, (Walters, Petrov, S)
    Agbonlahor, Rooney Suarez.

    your thoughts would be appreciated.
but only if they allay my deepest fears.
or boost my fragile FPL ego.

Personally if I had Suarez I would go for him as captain most defo!

As for playing ward....I wouldn't if I was you. Maybe better off playing Petrov/Walters, both are the more likely source of goals for their respective teams. I know they both have tough games but Walters is on Pen duties so could nick a goal and Petrov is in decent form this season and is facing one of the leagues worst defences (statistically of course)

I think we might have quite similar shaped teams - what's yours? Mine is:

      Krul Vorm
      Komps Bos Warnock Simmo Ward
      Silva SWP Brunt Barkely(!) Dyer
      RVP Rooney Aguero

I will be downgrading RVP to Ade and getting another expensive mid in. I've lost it a bit this season - made some weird decisions and ended up with a very unbalanced team.

Going to captain RVP - you?

        Kompany Bosingwa Enrique Brown Ward
        Walcott Taarabt Jarvis Hoolahan Petrov

So yeah, pretty similar. Three big hitters up top, one expensive midfielder and then a load of dross in the rest of the midfield!

The differential in the overall game is not captaining him.

I guess Rooney will still be the most selected this week.

Most of Man Utd supporters at my office have no plan to switch and I guess the same happening elsewhere..

Right-e-o then...Thinking this line-up will suffice but am still pondering one transfer and possible captain switch...what you guys reckon?:

    Given
    Brown, Bos, STaylor
    Mata (c), Brunt, SWP, Nasri
    Rooney, Suarez (v), Adebayor

    Bench: Begovic, Dyer, Ward, Warnock

Transfer dilemma is to push Silva in for Nasri (for obvious reasons) or hope Samir gets another 2 assists at home maybe (?)

Captain was Suarez but then shifted to Mata...Rooney obviously an option but my brain is blurred with Man U being at Stoke (Hard defense), Utd being on form (Goals) and various articles suggesting even more goals for UTD.

I'm way behind in my mini leagues so far and captaining Rooney means I stay on par with everyone (with other differentials hopefully chipping away at their lead) or going for Mata means I could lose (or gain I spose) more...If Silva in (-4pts btw) is he worth the captaincy (even though it's Everton who may not just let City run the show)?

Yes...this is a post from a brain that is hurting...any advise would be great...I need to start saving face now...

      I'd keep nasri.

Mata looks good for the captaincy

Suarez may have a good week but he has looked frustrated lately and was poor last week. His personal discipline is quickly becoming a problem too. Lets not forget he did bite someone in the neck last year...

Did he not pull a Tyson and chomp on an ear? What you think of the starting line-up then?
