As you may have seen from our latest tweet, Sir Alex Ferguson has been speaking ahead of tomorrow night’s Champions League game with Basel.

In a report direct from the Man United website, Fergie has confirmed both Wayne Rooney and Javier Hernandez will both miss out in the home clash against the Swiss side, offering a chance for the likes of Dimitar Berbatov, Danny Welbeck and Michael Owen in the starting XI tomorrow evening.

When asked for an update on Rooney’s hamstring injury, the United boss was fairly non-committal:

He’s not playing tomorrow. It can be difficult to assess a hamstring injury. Obviously we hope we have him back quickly. He did a bit of jogging this morning but that’s all. It’s difficult to say.

On Hernandez, there was more cause for optimism:

[Hernandez’s injury] is straightforward, it’s a dead leg he got on Saturday. He should be ready for next Saturday.

The quotes leave Fantasy managers still hedging their bets on Rooney’s availability for the Old Trafford showdown with Norwich on Saturday afternoon, then. Any further indication nearer the time will play a significant part in Fantasy transfers ahead of the weekend- given his recent barnstorming form, Rooney would undoubtedly be a nailed-on pick for captaincy but with an international break to follow, it’s impossible to second-guess the United boss right now.

With an away trip to Liverpool in Gameweek 7 followed by a derby with Man City the following weekend, Fergie will surely not take any risks with his star forward but right now, it’s clear he’s keeping his cards firmly to his chest.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

      It has left a really bad taste in my mouth to be honest. If Bolatelli got 3, Aguero 2, Kompany 1 I would have been alright, but Milner taking all 3? And Hart 2? Are you effing kidding me????

        Hart is particularly weird because other keepers with clean sheets who played much better than him have gotten no BP.

    I'm really stuck what to do with this rooney situation. I planned on suarez to aguero because either way I want aguero in my team. Trouble is that would leave me with 0.0m in the bank so has to be today if make the move as aguero going up tonight.

    Alternate is obviously to do rooney > aguero but would have to concede it would be a few gw's till got rooney back and still not 100% he's not playing this weekend. Decisions, decision!?!

      Wouldn't ditch Suarez personally. Bite the bullet and accept that you may miss out on 0.1 on Aguero and wait til Saturday (or whenever Fergie is clearer) until you ditch Rooney.

        Cheers mate. I'm pretty sure rooney won't play on say but nothing's certain and if I missed out on aguero then rooney confirmed to play be wounded. Saying that ade aguero suarez looks a nice forward line this weekend (IF rooney doesn't play!)

      Like that massively. Torres suspended gives Drogba game time. Mata and the Cole/Bos full-backs should give him excellent service, and their next opponents, Bolton, will possibly be without Gary Cahill and David Wheater for the encounter. That means relying on Zat Knight. That can only end one way...

    For what it's worth I don't see Rooney playing this weekend.

    If it's a hamstring which are invariably difficult to predict and Ferguson has spoken in every press release for the last 2 weeks (including) today's about the need to rotate his squad and get people playing then surely Norwich at home is a chance to play the likes of Owen, Macheda, Diouf, Berbatov alongside Hernandez

    This would then give Rooney 3 weeks to get perfectly fit for Liverpool and City back to back.

    I'm going to wait till later in the week to be sure but planning:-

    Rooney -> Hernandez
    Dzeko -> Drogba.

    Happy to lose the cash on Rooney and then plan to do Drogba to Suarez when Torres is back and L'pool good run starts.

    Just my thoughts.

    Gonna wait a few days before deciding what to do with Rooney. Don't want to miss out on Rooney(C) at home to Norwich if there is a chance of him getting fit. If he is out then I'm gonna drop. Here is my options:

    A. Rooney->Aguero, leaves me with no United cover

    B. Rooney->Aguero and Mata->Nani for a hit.

    C. Rooney->8.4 mill striker (got Ade and RVP up front) and Brunt->Nani for a hit.

    "The Guardian's report of United's draw over Stoke comes with the headline "Manchester United caught short by tweaks, Twitter and tall strikers," with the club reportedly annoyed that Rooney's wife Coleen inadvertently revealed to the world that her husband would not be involved in the Premier League clash.

    The Guardian explains: "It has been politely pointed out to Rooney it would be better for his wife, Coleen, not to furnish United's opponents with advance team news.

    "Rooney's absence was no particular surprise to Stoke after she announced via Twitter on Friday night that they were at home watching a Beyoncé DVD. The rest of the United team were at their hotel."

    Oops – not too clever from Mrs Rooney. After the match Sir Alex Ferguson said that Rooney could be out for "several weeks" with a hamstring injury. "

    time to unfollow gents.

    also if youre expecting rooney news from united before norwich then youre out of luck. rooney to aguero must be done tonight!
