As you may have seen from our latest tweet, Sir Alex Ferguson has been speaking ahead of tomorrow night’s Champions League game with Basel.

In a report direct from the Man United website, Fergie has confirmed both Wayne Rooney and Javier Hernandez will both miss out in the home clash against the Swiss side, offering a chance for the likes of Dimitar Berbatov, Danny Welbeck and Michael Owen in the starting XI tomorrow evening.

When asked for an update on Rooney’s hamstring injury, the United boss was fairly non-committal:

He’s not playing tomorrow. It can be difficult to assess a hamstring injury. Obviously we hope we have him back quickly. He did a bit of jogging this morning but that’s all. It’s difficult to say.

On Hernandez, there was more cause for optimism:

[Hernandez’s injury] is straightforward, it’s a dead leg he got on Saturday. He should be ready for next Saturday.

The quotes leave Fantasy managers still hedging their bets on Rooney’s availability for the Old Trafford showdown with Norwich on Saturday afternoon, then. Any further indication nearer the time will play a significant part in Fantasy transfers ahead of the weekend- given his recent barnstorming form, Rooney would undoubtedly be a nailed-on pick for captaincy but with an international break to follow, it’s impossible to second-guess the United boss right now.

With an away trip to Liverpool in Gameweek 7 followed by a derby with Man City the following weekend, Fergie will surely not take any risks with his star forward but right now, it’s clear he’s keeping his cards firmly to his chest.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

if Rooney won't be fit for the next game:

    Does Rooney+Mata -> Drogba+Nani

make any sense (for the next 3gws)?

Or should I play safe and get Aguero instead?

    Is Portsmouth Bubblejet out there?

If so, what are the long term prospects for Toni Kroos? I know Robben may not start in this round of CL fixtures, but once he is fully fit presumably Kroos will drop to the bench, with Robben, Ribery, Muller and Gomez as the preferred forward four?

Just who drops out when Robben returns is a good question. It won't be Ribéry (who is in top form) or Gomez (who is Bayern's only experienced centre forward.) So it'll be between Kroos and Müller. Kroos is developing into just the type of number 10 that Jupp Heynckes always likes to see in his teams, but Müller is consistently dangerous from whichever position he plays in midfield and was at the heart of almost all of Bayern's attacks against Leverkusen.

Rotation looks likely between the two, but I reckon that it will be Kroos who has to make way most often - he didn't get many touches at the weekend when Leverkusen's Bender and Rolfes marked him out of the match, and Müller currently offers a smidgeon more guile and tactical flexibility. Kroos is still a huge talent though.

Sympathies to all those who paid the extra .5 over Warnock etc. for Richard Dunne's ''goal'' threat...

On a serious note, I think they should swap minus points for OGs to conceding penalties.

Agreed, especially considering the majority of own goals - like Dunne's yesterday - are nothing more than bad luck.

Dunne was in a lot of my proposed wildcard teams, but thankfully I didn't end up going with him in the end.

Get rid of Meireles. You already got Chelsea cover with Mata.
Get a cheaper mid like SWP, Taarabt, Ramsey, Petrov etc. and upgrade Ferguson to a useful midfielder to give you more options.

Sorry for re-post lads, got the bottom of page previous 🙁

Hiya lads, just got in, checked all the bonus points and that, and ive been awarded 1, yes 1 bonus point from my whole team lol.

Anyways, was looking to see if anyone can spot where i am going wrong, as getting toasted in my mini league already, i know the season is young though.

    Team is:

    Given (Ruddy)

Enrique – Simpson – Jones (De Laet, N.Taylor)

Mata – Meireles – Young – Nasri (Ferguson)

Van Persie – Aguero – Best

NOTE: I’ve already transferred in van persie, and aguero for rooney and Torres. I know my subs aren’t the best pick either, and should of held out to see what rooney situation is.

But as it stand for the main skeleton of the team, where am i going wrong? Need help BADLY. Anyone care to comment?

    Much appreciated 🙂

yeah but i mean for the main skeloton of the team, ie: players players and not on bench, im keeping meireles as they have bolton next, after next week may get him out, but was looking for advice on the main body of the team.

put down to just a bad week? i dunno 🙂

There's no real point complaining - it is what it is - but I do feel that the function of bonus points should be reward good play that isn't necessarily rewarded otherwise. The new system seems to be biased towards types of play that have already been amply rewarded via points.

who do you think is a good replacement for Taarabt....getting fed up with his lack of returns- looking at him play dont think he will score many as Warnock initally predicted.

what you guys think of RAMIRES in place....he seems to make lots of runs in the box and more advanced getting in goalscoring opportunities. also played 90 mins in all games and chelsea have a good set of fixtures coming up....could get 8+ goals this season
    what ya think?

Rooney is too expensive to have and not use.
It could be nice timing for Drog to come in and show El Nino how to do it......

If Rooney doesn't play v Norwich and you've made him captain, then you've got someone like Aguerro or Dzeko vice captain and they are rotated and don't play either, does that mean you end up with no captain at all? Can see a lot of unhappy people this week.

Considering it, but i have Dzeko and Silva, and Drogba should play against Blackburn. I think i'll transfer in Drogs for 2 or 3 weeks.

I would be suprised if rooney played against Norwich, they should have enough fire power to overcome them without him.

So if you keep Rooney then making him captain could be a big mistake, unless your vice captain is a 100% nailed on starter.

Anybody else just see the norwegian league goal headed from the halfway line on SSN?

Wes Brown did and he's giving it a go tonight.

I hope you're right! I could do with 12pts from wes tonight(assuming he get 3 bonus and cs)!

Just a thought, maybe the penalty awarded to Villa yesterday will result in more pens for shirt pulling. Although they are not normally given, it was indeed a pen by the letter of the law and maybe the attention it has received will lead to instructions to refs to give them. Maybe..
