As you may have seen from our latest tweet, Sir Alex Ferguson has been speaking ahead of tomorrow night’s Champions League game with Basel.

In a report direct from the Man United website, Fergie has confirmed both Wayne Rooney and Javier Hernandez will both miss out in the home clash against the Swiss side, offering a chance for the likes of Dimitar Berbatov, Danny Welbeck and Michael Owen in the starting XI tomorrow evening.

When asked for an update on Rooney’s hamstring injury, the United boss was fairly non-committal:

He’s not playing tomorrow. It can be difficult to assess a hamstring injury. Obviously we hope we have him back quickly. He did a bit of jogging this morning but that’s all. It’s difficult to say.

On Hernandez, there was more cause for optimism:

[Hernandez’s injury] is straightforward, it’s a dead leg he got on Saturday. He should be ready for next Saturday.

The quotes leave Fantasy managers still hedging their bets on Rooney’s availability for the Old Trafford showdown with Norwich on Saturday afternoon, then. Any further indication nearer the time will play a significant part in Fantasy transfers ahead of the weekend- given his recent barnstorming form, Rooney would undoubtedly be a nailed-on pick for captaincy but with an international break to follow, it’s impossible to second-guess the United boss right now.

With an away trip to Liverpool in Gameweek 7 followed by a derby with Man City the following weekend, Fergie will surely not take any risks with his star forward but right now, it’s clear he’s keeping his cards firmly to his chest.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Assuming Hernandez is fit for Norwich game which option to go for....

    Brunt and Rooney out and....

    A) Drogs and Nani in OR
    B) Hernandez and Mata in

Chris Foy will take charge of his first Sunderland game of the season as the Black Cats take on Norwich at Carrow Road tonight (KO 8pm).
Foy, whose first senior season was 1997-98, has officiated three Football League and one Carling Cup game so far this season and has shown red cards in each of his last two games.
He took charge of 34 games in 2010-11, showing 89 yellow cards plus four reds, with all the dismissals coming in his last 10 games of the campaign.
Foy was in the middle for three Sunderland games last season - the 0-0 home draw with Manchester United, the 3-0 win at Chelsea and the 1-0 victory over Bolton.

gotta be worth a punt on a red card tonight especially if Clatermole plays

He's only underrated currently because he was awful for a good while. Takes a while to turn opinion around. Look at Lucas, he was superb last season and you still get fans who don't realise he's become a great defensive midfielder.

It always perplexes me that footballers have surgery so often and so readily, us normal people get injured all the time and we are out for a couple of weeks and then we're fine. I think the surgery often does more harm than good, even if its keyhole.
