Dirk Kuyt vows to win back his starting place, while Alan Pardew heaps praise on his strike force. Paul Lambert names an unchanged lineup and is rewarded with another three points as Norwich climb to ninth ahead of a trip to Old Trafford. Jack Wilshere is likely to be out till February, while Alan Tate tries an oxygen chamber to mend his broken leg. Here’s some quick Scribbles ahead of a busy day, folks:

Swansea defender Alan Tate doesn’t do things in half measures. Having broken his leg in a golf buggy accident, the twenty-nine year old has now turned to using an oxygen tank in order to speed up the healing process. Tate was initially expected to be out till Christmas but is hoping to return sooner:

“I go into the chamber three times a week for an hour. I’ve done 10 sessions and the results so far say it is helping and speeding up my progression.”

Dirk Kuyt has vowed to fight for his place in the Liverpool XI after becoming something of a peripheral figure of late. The Dutchman has started three league game this season and his team have been victorious on two of those occasions but despite a start and a goal in last week’s Carling Cup match at Brighton, Kuyt has seen just twenty minutes game time since gameweek 4.

Alan Pardew has been singing the praises of strike pair Demba Ba and Leon Best. The duo linked up brilliantly as Ba fired a hat-trick past Blackburn last weekend and with Hatem Ben Arfa nearing his return to a first-team league start, the Newcastle boss set a challenge for the in-form strikers ahead of this weekend:

Him (Ba) and Besty had as good a game as a pairing as any other strikers since I have been at this club. There is huge pressure to deliver at this club and they both delivered against Blackburn. Now they have to deliver at Wolves next week.

Jack Wilshere could be out of action until late February. That’s the prognosis after the Arsenal midfielder had an operation on his problematic ankle injury, with a statement on the Gunners website yesterday saying he’ll be sidelined for four or five months. Good news for Fantasy owners of Aaron Ramsey, then, with the Welshman likely to be the main beneficiary, with Mikel Arteta sitting deeper alongside Alex Song.

Reports this morning suggest Theo Walcott is due to miss out on Arsenal’s Champions League clash with Olympiakos tomorrow and may be a doubt for Sunday’s match with Spurs, though Arsenal have yet to make any official statement on the matter.

Paul Lambert fielded an unchanged starting XI for yesterday’s visit of Sunderland. Having tinkered so dramatically in Norwich’s first few games, consistency of selection proved key last night as the Canaries picked up their second win in succession. Bad news for Fantasy owners of Ritchie De Laet and Grant Holt, then, with both missing out once again. Holt did appear in a brief thirteen minute sub appearance, while De Laet stayed benched and will miss the weekend match with Man United due to the loan arrangement with his parent club.

Sunderland conceded their first goals with John O’Shea in the side last night. The Irishman’s previous two league appearances had produced clean sheets but the Black Cats were a shadow of the team that had hammered Stoke 4-0 the previous week and O‘Shea was not a happy man after the defeat:

We couldn’t get in behind Norwich and put them under pressure, whereas they managed to do that and fair play to them. We played a lot in front of their back four, rather than getting in behind and that’s something we’re going to have to work on.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

A semi-serious name to bring up... Bannon.

He looks to have replaced Albrighton and takes penalties.

For 5.0, I'm seriously keeping an eye on his form.

His passing is outstanding and a great player, he took the pen but i think if bent or nzog were on the pitch i'd be a different matter.

I'm getting him in for RvP. With Utd's tricky fixtures coming up, 12.5m on rooney is a bit too much for me. Hernandez can score vs anyone and i'll get Rooney back in after Eve away.

I'm keeping hold of RVP, he's picking up some of last year's form and Arsenal have some good fixtures coming up.

The only one I would possibly swap is Suarez. Wouldn't even consider swapping for Aguero or RVP (finally scoring). Saying that Saurez isn't leaving my team for a while. I went with Nani for UTD cover

I'm a firm believer in giving players a chance to gain you some points rather than always swapping the minute they don't. I prefer Nani to Mata obviously which is why I went with him, I also needed UTD coverage.. Saying that I believe Mata will bring you some good points soon so it will only piss you off if you get rid

With Taarabt set to drop tonight, who would be an ideal replacement (for a 4 point hit)? Im looking at Jarvis because of fixtures but he is heading towards a drop also. My team value is a riot at present so I am happy to take hits to try to get back up to 100.0. I don’t have any united coverage so may be looking at a consecutive 8 pointer at the end of the week to get in Hernandez or Rooney. My team is as follows

    Given Kenny
    Hutton Bramble NTaylor Simpson Enrique
    Mata Taarabt Sinclair Silva Moses
    Aguero Holt RVP

I have 2.4 in the bank, and need to address my Holt situation pretty soon as well, any ideas?

If you cant find your money enywhere else then yes its a good move. But 4.5 defenders are mostly playing in weaker teams, so you'd be lucky to get a CS from them.

what about traore? he's 4.0 for marsaille

i used my wc because my first week team was TERRIBLE would have been at least a 12 point hit to fix it up (factoring in the hernandez injury too) and like 14 pts to make it a little better so i just went for the wc. hate to use it so early though. any way you can make do with a 6 pt hit over an 8 pt one? if not id still go for the hits and save your wildcard

6 pt hit minimum for. But if i want Ronaldo over Benzema then its 8.

Traore if he does play, then its good value, but I dont know really much about Marseille. Maybe Victor Ruiz from Valencia similar option?

An interesting thing I heard from Alan Pardew (not personally) was that Demba Ba was fasting due to the month of ramadhan last month thats why he had such a slow start to the season. His hat trick might cause a huge knee jerk but if he produces the form he had at West Ham he could be devastating...

3rd choice cheaper striker option could emerge which will free up funds for my ridiculously budget defence

    Ok, bit of advice needed.

I have a few choices for this week ahead of my wildcard during the int break.

    1. Swap Rooney if injured for Hernandez.
    2. Swap Rooney and Brunt for a 4pt hit to Nani and Adebayor
    3. Keep Rooney, swap Baines and Brunt for 5m defender and Nani

    Current team for the weekend
    Bos-Baines-Kompany
    Jarvis-Sinclair-Larsson-Brunt
    Ageuro-Rooney-Dzeko

...I have a sneaky feeling Baines may get something this week against a pourous L'pool side away. A derby penalty perhaps?

Obviously waiting to see what happens in Champions League, but my transfers this week for a 4 point hit, Dzeko and Rooney are coming out.
Which two are the best replacments can have anyone apart from RVP and Aguero together, I already have Suarez. The two options that spring to mind are Aguero and Adebayor or Aguero and Hernandez? Both options leave me with enough cash to bring Rooney back in when required. Anyone have any other ideas?

What are people's thoughts on Ramires (7.0) vs Mata (9.5) with regards to value?

I've not seen too much of Ramires so far this season but hear he's playing higher up than last season and was even higher than Mata last weekend on the heat map?

He only scored 2 goals last season but for those who have seen a lot of him this season, is he worth the 7.0 price tag? His place in the starting 11 is seemingly safe.

I'm not convinced myself, surely he was playing higher up against swansea due to the torres sending off - not sure about other games, think mata will start to deliver FPL-wise soon.

I dont think Ramires will score that many goals to be a real FPL threat. He's a good player in starting XI, but I'd look somewhere else for that price. Mata might be good choice, but is quite expensive, and I'm gonna wait few more matches before thinking of getting him.

I have been considering the same, I imagine Mata will score higher over the season being on set pieces and providing assists.

But, I do think Ramires will be interesting because he has big potential value at 7.0M and is getting some chances!

Ha no I do want him. Bannan for Brunt and De Laet for Brown seems like good moves to me.
Bannan was great against us, basically Villas only decent player in that match (apart from Given) and got a penalty in the last game. I know he wont be on pens long term, just making sure he is likely to continue starting for the immediate future.

        I wouldn't say he was 100% secure.
Full strength midfield and forwards in McLeish's eyes is:

        Petrov/Delph
        N'Zog/Heskey/Agbonlahor
        Bent

However, Heskey was effectively replaced with Bannan and Gabby played up top, with Ireland filling the gap. Ireland will not continue in the team if he maintains his current form and N'Zogbia is at risk of being dropped and replaced by Albrighton. Petrov and Delph are secure.

I think the team will be as follows for the weekend:

        Petrov/Delph
        N'Zog/Bannan/Gabby
        Bent

To be honest, we could do with a complete upheaval in formation with the way we have been playing.

Cheers for that, good post. Yeah Bent and Zogs have been a bit poor so far, and Ireland looks disinterested and unfit. I'll go with Bannan then and keep a little in the bank to upgrade him if he loses his place. I quite like him as a player.

All depends on the Norwich game i suppose.

If he doesnt play he could quite possibly drop by 0.2 / 0.3 in the international break as the casual players will just get rid. If he plays and rips it up you might need to find 0.4 to get him back.

But the known is that he is currently injured (missed the last game and is missing tonight) and not in training. Fergie has said that he is out for "a few weeks". Even if he wasn't genuinely injured I wouldn't have been surprised to have seen him rested for the Norwich game and then pulled out of the internationals for some reason.

Assuming he doesn't play against Norwich there are then two weeks till the next deadline and people will be shipping him out then, so he could go down another 0.2 by the next deadline, i.e. sell now for 12.2 and buy back for 12.2

Rooney is the best striker at the moment.

Ageuro is close behind. If Rooney is out then it makes perfect sense to get the next best thing in.

Means during your wildcard you can ditch dzeko and still have aman city attacker left.

You wont make too much cash on this international break, so I'd keep it in the bank ready for this winter. Supposed to be heavy snow as early as the end of October so having your wildcard could prove vital.

If I were to scrap the wildcard idea, I'm still without Silva or Aguero which is most troubling...so in that respect, is it worth a 4 point hit?

Silva is. I'm personally NOT getting Aguero. Yes he will rip it up now and again, but there is such a threat of random rest/rotation over him that I prefer to go with RVP or Rooney who are far more certain of starts when fit.

Wait for what? We probably won't know before the deadline if Rooney's definately out anyway. The best we can hope for is a vague statement one way or the other. In the meantime Aguero will have risen yet again and Rooney might have dropped!

So buying Ramsey and Suarez (c) for a hit in reckless thought 1 week before their next game didnt work out too bad. Gained 17 points.

Spending less time on the game is doing wonders. 🙂

I'm not pleased with my defensive line, wondering if I should switch de laet, but don't know with who. I would have 4.2 to spend. RMT and help me with suggestions

    Vorm - Krul
    Simpson - Taylor R - Rangel - De Laet - Ferdinand
    Nani - Silva - SWP - Ramires - Mata
    Aguero - Adebayor - Suarez

Oooo you do have a pretty shonky defence (I take it thats Anton Ferdinand). You're basically limited to Danny Simpson and bravely tripling on the Toon defence, or maybe Neil Taylor from Swansea.

Also you have 3 Newcastle players the back. Da Laet didn't make Norwhich lineup last night. Ferdinand will be playing in a leaky QPR defence with Traore banned.

Yeah, I have a top heavy team :/ Might wait two weeks and do a mata & De laet switch, mata seems to be playing deep and is somewhat invisible.

Also do not double up on Ramires and Mata stick to Mata. Get rid off Ramires for someone for Ramsey or someone else.

Imma watch ramires next match, and if he does magic, I'll keep him until Torres returns... but will definitely get rid of him. Hopefully I'll earn some transfer money on him as well, he has the potential

I like your forward line but I am afraid it is only because you have clearly compensated at the back. Who from your back will be keeping cleansheets after January when things start getting tight?

Also Ramires was lucky with his goals and he only got forward because Torres was sent off. Everything else looks good though 🙂

Januray? I've made several transfers by then. Hopefully I will have earned enough money through transfers to have a decent defensive line whilst keeping my top heavy team

Any transfer suggestions? I was possible thinking off either swapping Given to Krul or another GK OR Rooney to Van Persie for this GW and back over to Rooney the week after?

    Given, (Vorm)
    Smalling, Bosingwa, Kompany, (Simpson), (Drury)
    Dyer, Silva, Barton, Young, (Ferguson)
    Aguero, Suarez, Rooney

Guys which you think is better?

    A) Rooney and Brunt to Adebayor and Nani?

    or

    B) Rooney and Brunt to Hernandez and Mata?

    Rest of the team:

    Given (Vorm)
    Bosingwa Kompany Brown (Simpson) (Senderos)
    SWP Silva Brunt Dyer (Moses)
    RvP Rooney Suarez

    Given, Vorm
    Kompany, Bosingwa, Brown, Simpson, NTaylor
    Young, Silva, Brunt, Cabaye, Dyer
    Rooney, Suarez, Dzeko

    2 frees, 0.3 in bank.

Seems generic, but my head's telling me:

    Dzeko -> Adebayor
    Rooney -> RVP/Aguero

Is this the right choice? I'd also like to ditch Brunt, but can't settle on the best replacement.

First thing you do is ditch Brunt to Barton.

Wait on the Rooney one to see what the situation is with him.

any news on Nani going up in value? or thoughts.. I just want to justify my decision on moving out Rooney so quickly as I did it thinking nani would go up and I couldn't afford another 0.1. BTW Rooney is staying out for me for 3 weeks now I have rid as wanted to keep RVP for a little longer

Rooneys price has still not dropped stuck at 12.5 meaning nobody has the balls to transfer him out. I would keep him as you won't be able to get him back.

I've already done it hence the question on Nani's value and my talking in the past tense (i think lol)

I will be able to get him back easy swap with RVP when the time is right.

        Any thoughts on Nani's value
