As domestic matters pause for the international break, our post-Gameweek regular takes a look at a Fantasy favourite refusing to go quietly and an injury quandary for another heavy-hitter. Elsewhere, the Cottagers find their spark at last to provide plenty mid-price potential, as Martin Jol’s strikers cut loose to destroy the hapless hoops…

The Player

Subbed at half time against Man United, benched for the following home game with Swansea, many had written off Frank Lampard’s Fantasy potential. Sunday’s game at the Reebok, though, served a timely reminder of his capabilities; a hat-trick and the three bonus points produced a twenty point haul and in just one game, Lampard more than doubled his Fantasy Premier League (FPL) total for the season.

Sitting on 42 points, he’s the fourth-top scoring midfielder, only 6 points behind David Silva and Nani, despite both starting every game so far this term. In terms of points per game, only one midfielder –Ashley Young- betters his 7.0, with 7.5 in comparison; all this without a penalty at Bolton, too.

What’s frustrating for Fantasy managers is that while Lampard proved he is still more than capable of producing the goods when given the game time, he’s no longer an automatic first-choice selection in the Chelsea first XI. Andre Villas-Boas’ need for more dynamism in the Chelsea central area will see him rest Lampard from time to time in order to maintain a freshness- regardless of the eye-catching display, it’ll take a brave Fantasy manager to run the risk of a 11.6 bench-warmer.

The Team

Winless after six league games under Martin Jol, it took a visit from their nearest rivals to wake Fulham from their top-flight slumber. While the Cottagers have prospered in Europe, they’ve been domestically woeful, with just four points to their name prior to QPR’s arrival at the Cottage on Sunday.

An incredible six-goal triumph saw four Fulham players return double figure Fantasy hauls, with 5.1 Andrew Johnson –in his first start since gameweek 2- leading the way with 20 to his name after a brilliant hat-trick. Danny Murphy and Clint Dempsey both found the net and the Fulham defence also shone, showing a certain resolve to record their second clean sheet on the spin.

Bobby Zamora, once again, demonstrated just how key a figure he is to this Fulham side. Having missed out last week through illness, Zamora returned to the starting XI and scored for the third appearance in a row. Add an assist and 2 bonus points and Zamora has averaged 8.8 FPL points per appearance- the second best tally this season. Only Wayne Rooney has returned more points per game than the 6.7 priced-forward.

The Talking Point

With so much doubt over Wayne Rooney’s availability for the Norwich game, many Fantasy managers had made their minds up early and sold on. As many as 154K shipped Rooney out, with Sergio Aguero the main target, brought in by 135K as a result of a trip to Blackburn.

Twenty-six minutes in, though, and Aguero was limping out of the Ewood Park proceedings, with a groin problem ending his Gameweek on 1 point. Samir Nasri stepped off the bench and transformed the game, grabbing a goal and two assists as City heaped further misery on Steve Kean- the Frenchman, meanwhile, bagged 17 Fantasy points for just over an hour’s work.

With Rooney now recovered, Aguero has joined up with the Argentina squad and will be monitored ahead of games against Chile and Venezuela. Once again, Fantasy managers are left in a quandary over a big-money forward, though with a fortnight before the gameweek eight clash with Aston Villa, time is on their side this time.

Should Aguero fail to make it, Roberto Mancini can at least turn to Edin Dzeko and Mario Balotelli- at 8.6 and 8.5 respectively, they’d be potential bargains if the prognosis proves downbeat, given City’s average of more than three goals per game and- thanks to Carlos Tevez- little other striking alternatives.

    Current forward line:

    Aguero, Rooney, Adebayor

    I need Suarez for the fixtures between GW's 9-11 but dont want to get rid of Adebayor due to the double gameweek possibly occuring then, and Spurs's nice fixtures in general

    Also don't want to lose Rooney or Aguero, because of the money i'll lose to try and fit them back in around GW 11.

          Can Sturridge be relied upon to start every week?

      You definitely need Spurs cover for the upcoming gw's, so Adebayor is a good bet on those. I can see Adebayor being more influential on his squad than Suarez on his for those gameweeks, so I'd keep it as is. Unless you drop your midfield down to Modric or VdV for Spurs cover and add suarez up top...

        Yeah, that might not be a bad idea getting VDV in. I'll probably stick with Ade this gameweek though, and maybe Silva > VDV in GW 9 along with Adebayor > Suarez

      Identical situation for me. Thinking of bringing in Suarez for GW9 when Aguero is away to ManU. Pondering if I should bring back Aguero for GW10 or 12.

        Nope, but that's the general consensus on when they may have it.

        There's Carling cup action around that time. Spurs are out, and if Everton lose to chelsea then they and Spurs could play when everyone else plays in the carling cup

        Hi Daniel,

        The Spurs-Everton game was postponed in GW 1, so there could be a double gameweek on the horizon.

        Spurs are already out of the Carling Cup, so that frees up a date, if Everton are knocked out by Chelsea too. It could then occur around gw 11-12 but if Everton win, then it will be a much later date probably.

        Just speculation though

          Cheers mate. I am not sure that Tot will want to have the double with the European obligations, but they are playing youngsters anyway there. So we have around 4 GW's to prepare for that. That means I need to consider place for Ade and I don't want him at all.

          I've checked so its gonna be GW 11.

    Already asked, but a little insecure on the move, given that these players all have pretty favorable fixtures...

    A)Woodgate and Banaan
    or
    B) Enrique and Tiote (doubling up newcastle with Simpson already on the squad)

    Thanks homeys

    Defence is Bosingwa(EVE), Jones(liv), Simpson(TOT), Brown(ars), and DeLaet(SWA)

    Bosingwa starts surely, brown benched surely.

    was going to go delaet->woodgate(FUL) so naturally i would start him

    so do i play jones away to pool or simpson home to spurs?

    or are both decent enough options to wait on woodgate, who after arsenal gw9 have NEW, bol, QPR, BLA.

    Thinkin about making a change, wanted to get some opinions...

    Have the following team

    Vorm/Ruddy

    Brown/N Taylor/Simpson/Bosingwa/Kompany

    Petrov/Moses/Sinclair/SWP/Nani

    Rooney/Aguero/Suarez

    2 FT, 2.0 in the bank.

    If I transfer:

    Suarez-->Sturridge
    SWP-->Silva

    Then that leaves me with just enough to consider Moses-->Ramsey

    I figured maybe it's easier to find cheaper options this season at forward than it is to find them in midfield. With Silva due for a price rise I figure the time to act is today. Would you do it?

      Do it, that will make your team way better. Plus if Ramsey goes up in price and you cant afford him, BArry BAnnan is a great option with favourable fixtures after next week

    Team at the moment:

    Ruddy, Given
    Kompany, Simpson, Enrique, Hughes, Brown
    Silva, Brunt, Nani, Mikel, Dyer
    Adebayor, Suarez, Rooney

    Any suggestions for what to do with my one free transfer? Got 1.4 in the bank so thinking of bringing in Phil Jones for either Hughes or Brown.

    Vorm
    Baines Collins Brown De Laet Simpson
    Nani Mata Sinclair Sess Moses
    Agbon RVP Dzeko
    Bank = 0.9 FT = 1 (no hits so far)

    I def want to do Baines > Enrique for 3 weeks. Been waiting for the MU match to get over, and he’s assisted twice in 2 games. Darn!

    which one? worth a hit in these cases?
    A. Baines > Enrique, Dzeko > Roon, De Laet > Naylor, Sess > Murphy (-12)
    B. Baines > Enrique, Sess > Silva (-4)
    C. Baines > Enrique, Dzeko > Roon, Sess > Murphy (-8)
    D. other.

          Yeah you have to beat Everton. However i don't know the date, for the Carling cup Quarter finalS, which is after that round, so it's difficult to tell which GW it will fall under

      I don't want to be rude, but the answer seems to be no one. NO f.ing one 😀 I've tried to answer that question by myself but it seems that's the answer is Hanneman or Robinson and there defense is shit

      Vorm/ Krul works very well, although most have a NEWC defender at this stage, so it depends on if you want to double up or not.
      Vorm/ Given good also, but a little bit pricier.
      Vorm/ Kenny ; but QPR look very dodgy.
      Vorm/ Begovic ; not sure how they rotate, but Stoke look good for CS in home matches.

      Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer
      The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune,
      Or to take arms against a sea of troubles,
      And by opposing end them? To die: to sleep;
      No more; and by a sleep to say we end
      The heart-ache and the thousand natural shocks
      That flesh is heir to, 'tis a consummation
      Devoutly to be wish'd. To die, to sleep;
      To sleep: perchance to dream: ay, there's the rub;
      For in that sleep of death what dreams may come
      When we have shuffled off this mortal coil,
      Must give us pause: there's the respect
      That makes calamity of so long life;
