As domestic matters pause for the international break, our post-Gameweek regular takes a look at a Fantasy favourite refusing to go quietly and an injury quandary for another heavy-hitter. Elsewhere, the Cottagers find their spark at last to provide plenty mid-price potential, as Martin Jol’s strikers cut loose to destroy the hapless hoops…

The Player

Subbed at half time against Man United, benched for the following home game with Swansea, many had written off Frank Lampard’s Fantasy potential. Sunday’s game at the Reebok, though, served a timely reminder of his capabilities; a hat-trick and the three bonus points produced a twenty point haul and in just one game, Lampard more than doubled his Fantasy Premier League (FPL) total for the season.

Sitting on 42 points, he’s the fourth-top scoring midfielder, only 6 points behind David Silva and Nani, despite both starting every game so far this term. In terms of points per game, only one midfielder –Ashley Young- betters his 7.0, with 7.5 in comparison; all this without a penalty at Bolton, too.

What’s frustrating for Fantasy managers is that while Lampard proved he is still more than capable of producing the goods when given the game time, he’s no longer an automatic first-choice selection in the Chelsea first XI. Andre Villas-Boas’ need for more dynamism in the Chelsea central area will see him rest Lampard from time to time in order to maintain a freshness- regardless of the eye-catching display, it’ll take a brave Fantasy manager to run the risk of a 11.6 bench-warmer.

The Team

Winless after six league games under Martin Jol, it took a visit from their nearest rivals to wake Fulham from their top-flight slumber. While the Cottagers have prospered in Europe, they’ve been domestically woeful, with just four points to their name prior to QPR’s arrival at the Cottage on Sunday.

An incredible six-goal triumph saw four Fulham players return double figure Fantasy hauls, with 5.1 Andrew Johnson –in his first start since gameweek 2- leading the way with 20 to his name after a brilliant hat-trick. Danny Murphy and Clint Dempsey both found the net and the Fulham defence also shone, showing a certain resolve to record their second clean sheet on the spin.

Bobby Zamora, once again, demonstrated just how key a figure he is to this Fulham side. Having missed out last week through illness, Zamora returned to the starting XI and scored for the third appearance in a row. Add an assist and 2 bonus points and Zamora has averaged 8.8 FPL points per appearance- the second best tally this season. Only Wayne Rooney has returned more points per game than the 6.7 priced-forward.

The Talking Point

With so much doubt over Wayne Rooney’s availability for the Norwich game, many Fantasy managers had made their minds up early and sold on. As many as 154K shipped Rooney out, with Sergio Aguero the main target, brought in by 135K as a result of a trip to Blackburn.

Twenty-six minutes in, though, and Aguero was limping out of the Ewood Park proceedings, with a groin problem ending his Gameweek on 1 point. Samir Nasri stepped off the bench and transformed the game, grabbing a goal and two assists as City heaped further misery on Steve Kean- the Frenchman, meanwhile, bagged 17 Fantasy points for just over an hour’s work.

With Rooney now recovered, Aguero has joined up with the Argentina squad and will be monitored ahead of games against Chile and Venezuela. Once again, Fantasy managers are left in a quandary over a big-money forward, though with a fortnight before the gameweek eight clash with Aston Villa, time is on their side this time.

Should Aguero fail to make it, Roberto Mancini can at least turn to Edin Dzeko and Mario Balotelli- at 8.6 and 8.5 respectively, they’d be potential bargains if the prognosis proves downbeat, given City’s average of more than three goals per game and- thanks to Carlos Tevez- little other striking alternatives.

Hmm, do you think after his poor showing last week Nani is a rotation risk with Valencia?

Utd have pretty horrible fixtures up to GW11 whereas Arsenal have prime ones.

I feel your defense is maybe a little expensive. I would lose one of Jones/Komp/Bos (Probably Jones as Man Utd have tough fixtures and are leaking goals) and bring in N Taylor.
Then use the money to upgrade SWP, Mata or maybe even Best.

      SWP>Dempsey?
      Mata>VDV?
      Best>Agbonlahor?

Salutations. This is the first time I've come across this site, and I'd have to say, I wish I had found it earlier! I need some advice with my current team:

    Vorm, Krul
Bosingwa, Kompany, Jose Enrique, S Taylor, Woodgate
    Nani, Silva, VDV, Ramsey, Dyer
    Rooney, Agbonlahor, Sturridge

I've got no cash in bank, one free trade, and Wilcard still intact. I'm worried about my forwards being too cheap (apart from Rooney), and I would like to bring Aguero into my side. Any suggestions?

    Cheers.

Personally I think VDV is overrated as he will be playing wide right with Defoe and Adeboyor being up front. Most people either have 3 expensive mids and 2 expensive strikers or 3 expensive strikers and 2 expensive mids. That is your choice. Sturridge and Ramsey are mid priced so restrict you to just 4 expensive players. Likewise with 3 mid priced defenders.

Othewise I think you have a good team and don't need to change anything unless there are injuries after the international break

Only at the expense of one of your big midfielders and a 4 point hit (or a tradeoff with Rooney). I wouldn't be too worried though, you have a strong team + Silva as MCity coverage. Looks good. Save the trade.

Looks like a nice team IMO.

Yes maybe you're missing another big hitter upfront (RVP/Suarez/Aguero) but at least the other 2 are scoring points. You certainly make up for it with 3 big hitter in MF anda strong DF.

To change things you'll have to lose a big-hitter in MF and replace him with a cheapie.

      Nani (fixtures/form in last game)>Bannan
      Agbonlahor>Aguero

It's his name for a reason though. He's scored nearly double the points Moses has and is currently 0.1 more expensive (only because Moses dropped of course). Not to mention penalty taking duties (behind Bent though I guess) and Villa having some nice fixtures coming up too.

Only Dyer is better value, but well we've all got him though

I got rid of Moses a while back. I think the worry with him is, is he going to keep having that many shots? And if he's had that many shots without scoring, it doesn't say much for his finishing. Look up some of his games on youtube- how many of his shots have been great saves by a keeper or hitting a bar? And how many have just been crap?

Got rid this week on WC. Nothing would persuade me to get Moses back.

Bannan is a risk too. Dyer and Tiote are both cheaper and are nailed on starters. I've got Tiote instead now.

You need people on your bench who can step in in an emergency in any given GW and get you some points.

Not really worth it, kind of a sideways transfer. Might be better to save it for this week

Seems to me as though you're relying on penalties for Sinclair... apart from his two penos, his only other contribution is 1 assist all season. I appreciate Petrov isn't setting the world alight mind.

Do you think Taarabt will start next game or two? I'll transfer him out soon but would not want to waste a transfer right now.

I think the sooner you get rid of Taraabt the better. His attitude sucks and it's touch and go whether he'll start the next game after his hissy fit.

Should have been suspended or given the boot, Warnock publicly roasted Traore, for in football terms a normal occurance fighting for the cause. Taarabt is almost laughed of, as rangers fan this is worrying.

Wait and see i think . Wouldnt be the first time that everyone has rushed to dump a player , only for him to score the next weekend,
He will play , he was sacrificed because defence was doing so badly.

Watched the game, taken off because he was the one making the least effort to help defensively. I hope im proven wrong but he could cost QPR dear. For the star he sees himself as he has produced nothing at this level.Cant think of any PL manager who would have dealt with him so lightly.

Taarabt wasn't our worst player on Sunday, not by a long shot! Bothroyd, Barton and SWP were worse.

The whole incident got blown out of all proportion.

Traore got slated (wrongly, in my opinion) because his challenge could have caused a serious injury to another player, reduced us to 10 men when we were a goal down and robbed us of his services for an important league game.

Taarabt needs to start producing an end product on the pitch for sure but he shouldn't be dropped and your criticism of him is, I think, a tad harsh.

I'd rather double up on Man City or Utd players than Spurs.

RVP probably better fixtures coming up than Rooney so may work out OK.

    Morning guys,

I have 2 frees but not too sure what transfers I'd like to do.

I think I'm going to keep the faith with Arteta as I get the feeling Ramsey has just been a little lucky and hopefully Arteta will be playing a little more forward in future? (not sure how this is going to happen)

Young is really starting to get on my nerves, especially after being rested at Norwich!

    Any advice is welcome!

    my team is:

    Given,Vorm
    Kompany,Jose Enrique,Simpson,Gabbidon,Bosingwa
    Silva,Young,Arteta,Dyer,Moses
    Adebayor,Rooney,Suarez

Arteta, Moses or Dyer (Not a fan of having both) and Gabbidon are your weak links.
Young will be fine for a while now after having his rest.

If I didn't have both dyer and moses I wouldn't know who not to play every week since at the moment I just choose 1 of my 4 cheap players based on fixtures...

Gabbidon has been injured for a couple games now, I'm not really worried about him since QPR has kept quite a few clean sheets already. (yes they lost 6-0 to fulham, but this was a freak result. I said the same thing to knee jerkers after gw1 and that worked out well for me) If you were to replace him, who would it be with?

Not knowing who to not play out of 4 cheapies isnt really a reason to keep them as they don't get points..
I dunno who i'd replace with Gabbidon with, but they have looked shite last 2 weeks and if you dont have a transfer in mind, then you may aswell waste one on deadwood rather than wasting it all together

Interestingly then that they have looked shite while Gabbidon has been out... Gabbidon kept 3 clean sheets out of 5 games he's played... he has gotten me points when he wasn't injured, and I wouldn't have played him when he was injured anyway!

My cheapies have gotten me points lol! 🙂 just not moses so far... 🙁 but I want to see how he does in the easier fixtures before deciding what to do with him, especially as I've now lost .1 on him... hopefully I can get it back. If he looks like dropping again then I'll have to get rid.

I'm pretty sure I'll have a couple of transfers that I have to do by the end of the international break, so I'm not really worried about not using the transfer... I would never do that! 😉

            Thanks for your thoughts!

True about Gabbidon, didnt even think of it haha.
Moses will probably come good once everyone has gotten rid I feel.
Arteta would be the first to go IMO as he is taking up alot more than your cheaper players

yeah, Arteta is my biggest problem... bit of a punt... didn't pay off... guess I should get Ramsey instead, although that seems as much of a punt, but at least he's playing higher up on the pitch, is a lot cheaper and is scoring points!

What do people think: Better to have three big hitters (e.g. Nani, Silva, VDV) in midfield and two cheapies (e.g. 2 of Dyer, Tiote, Bannan, etc.) or two big hitters and three mid-price (e.g. three of Ramsey, Petrov, Murphy, Sinclair, etc.)? That seems the big question right now.

    Any thoughts?

I have 3 big, 2 small, but I also have 3 decent and 2 budget defenders. The most value is in defence this year so it makes sense to me. also this way I only have to bench any 1 of my 4 cheap players. My team is in the post above yours...
