Our Watchlist rankings, offering player recommendations for a three-to-four week gameweek period, were given a full update for the new site layout this morning.

An aspect of the new design we haven’t stressed so far is that many site elements, particularly the Watchlist, are now more streamlined, enabling us to update more quickly and more often. We will be looking to keep on top of the Watchlist rankings on a daily basis now and very soon we will be adding a “Last Updated” date to the list so you can be notified when changes have taken place. We will also be generating more articles based on Watchlist movement when new entries or major changes occur. All good, then.

For now, however, let’s rattle through the standings and offer some reasoning behind our current thinking…

The goalkeeper rankings see very little movement with Swansea’s Michel Vorm and Newcastle’s Tim Krul still reigning supreme as they continue to return exceptional Fantasy value between the sticks. Krul has three home games in the next four to come, although would seem likely to have to rely on saves to earn his keep with Spurs at St James’ Park next. As for Vorm, three away games in four will test his mettle but again, saves and a home clash with Bolton in gameweek 10, should see him continue to offer value.

Below that pairing, Arsenal’s Wojciech Szczesny again offers an assured route into any potential Arsenal defensive returns – three strong Emirates fixtures in the next four affords a strong chance of clean sheets, despite continuing reservations surrounding the Gunners’ back four. Having withdrawn from the Poland squad with a back problem, we’ll be monitoring the Gunners stopper’s fitness- any indication he’s unlikely to make it and Szczesny will be replaced by Łukasz Fabiański in the rankings. Aston Villa’s Shay Given remains in our thinking as Alex McLeish’s unit display obvious defensive resolve, although we fully expect their unbeaten run to come to an end at City in gameweek 8. Wigan’s Ali Al Habsi and Norwich’s John Ruddy offer budget potential lower down our rankings as fixtures fall nicely through to November.

Liverpool’s Jose Enrique gets a temporary climb in our rankings following two consecutive assists and a clean sheet at Goodison. Like Arsenal, there are question marks over the solidity of the Liverpool back four but, with Norwich and Swansea at Anfield in the next four gameweeks, a clean sheet or two looks likely. Enrique’s threat from the left-flank will always be a factor, too.

There’s little movement below the Spaniard with the likes of Vincent Kompany, Jose Bosingwa and Steven Taylor continuing to offer potential. John Arne Riise’s ranking is starting to look justified too – he was a constant threat down the left for Fulham in their 6-0 drubbing of QPR and, of course, returned a second consecutive clean sheet.

Bolton’s Gary Cahill, Arsenal’s Kieran Gibbs and Norwich City’s Marc Tierney are all climbers in the lower echelons of the rankings – all three present gambles in Fantasy terms but, if you’re searching for differentials – they fit the bill. Cahill was an immensely popular Fantasy signing following his stunning strike in the day one defeat of QPR but, ever since, has plummeted in ownership. Ironically, he is just about to embark on a set of fixtures that could see his returns improve. He’s still likely to need to find attacking returns to boast his points tally, however.

City’s David Silva and United’s Nani remain the top two in the midfield rankings – Silva’s team-mate, Samir Nasri, is now their closest rival. Nasri benefits from the uncertainty surrounding Rafael Van der Vaart’s role in the Tottenham side (see today’s Scribbles) to climb the ladder. Chelsea’s Juan Mata falls from grace somewhat having firmly played second fiddle to Frank Lampard’s hat-trick at Bolton. There’s no place for Lampard in our rankings right now with Mata still the preferred option in Chelsea’s midfield. Lampard’s price, as always, is a major stumbling block but, should Andre Villas-Boas continue to select him in midfield and Lampard continues to show form, we may have to re-consider.

Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsey is a big climber and a very intriguing option in midfield given Arsenal’s forthcoming run of opponents. Featured in last week’s Numbers Game article for Members prior to his strike at White Hart Lane, Ramsey continues to produce returns and keep Mikel Arteta in the shade. With Theo Walcott still proving a major frustration, Ramsey is the sole representative of Arsene Wenger’s midfield in our rankings.

Lower down we’ve got the prospects presented by Swansea’s Scott Sinclair, Villa’s Barry Bannan and Norwich City’s Wes Hoolahan – all of whom have emerged in recent weeks. Wigan’s Victor Moses certainly hasn’t done himself justice of late but we’re sticking by him in the Watchlist – with Bolton, Fulham and Wolves in the next four, he has every chance repaying our faith in the coming weeks and making a mockery of his budget 4.9 price tag.

Up front, Arsenal’s Robin Van Persie continues to top the rankings, holding off Wayne Rooney, who faces far stiffer opposition in the coming weeks. Sergio Aguero’s injury has him drop a place with Liverpool’s Luis Suarez jumping to third.

Below this pack we have familiar names, with Chelsea’s Daniel Sturridge perhaps looking the strongest option; his two goal salvo at the Reebok surely cemented his starting role on the right of the Chelsea attack and, at just 6.5 in the FPL, he looks a very strong third striker option for the coming weeks at least.

We’re still waiting on further confirmation of Emmanuel Adebayor’s reported hamstring woes – right now he holds just above Sturridge. Gabby Agbonlahor’s showing in the 2-0 win over Wigan keeps him simmering, with Fulham’s Bobby Zamora and Newcastle’s Demba Ba offering options for those looking to plunder the mid-price market. Fulham’s Andy Johnson, at just 5.1 in the FPL right now, looks your real budget contender.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Yep, bit jittery on that, particularly if Villas-Boas recognises that Baines down the left is the main threat from Everton - he had a field day at Stamford Bridge last season if memory serves. Still holding Bos though and, until we see him benched, he'll stay high in the Watchlist.

this will not benefit you in the long run.
sure - its nice to time transfers with good gameweeks, but this should be second priority

my suggestion is wait until next friday, and if everyone is injury free go:
      Hilario - Ruddy
      Mata - Nani or VDV

Personally i think Suarez is half the player everyone makes him out to be and if liverpool were to go one down his head would drop and mouth open and just moan for the whole game and at 9.4 i think the money can be invested elsewhere with an equal or better point return...oh and cause he ripped untied apart last season doesnt mean it will happen again

True, I just think he's a big game player and Liverpool have a good recent record in this fixture. I wouldn't wanna take him out for a hit and then kick myself if he does have a good game, which is more than possible.

i preferred the old style where replies were all on the same page as the comments. feels like you're digging to find stuff all the time, imo it's sometimes better to have a messy bedroom as you can see what you're looking for on the floor instead of it filed away in a drawer somewhere.
my 2 cents, stick them in an ISA

Hi Mark, I think it might be a good idea to make the “Hide comments replies by default” the default option, because I think very few people would prefer to have comments hidden anyway. Particularly the way it is done anyway (having to click several times to see every reply sometime).

Differently, I think.. If the new feature of "hide replies" to be introduced, this is the effective way of introduction. However, it needs a more effective way to advise posters of the alternative "untick" feature to show all.

I like how VdV makes ONE comment about how he's comfortable playing in a different position, and yet the press blows it up like he's about to leave Spurs, refuse to play, and just start playing terribly because he's more on the right side of the field. And now everyone is thinking about dropping him...without really giving him a chance. If we've put up with Mata, let's do the same for VdV. Give it a couple gameweeks and see if he stays healthy and yields points. Let's not freak out lads...

    In other news...

    Enrique vs Woodgate...?
    Tiote vs Banaan....?

I've been mulling over this for a while, I know, but I refuse to waste my wildcard....

i still think vdv is a good fantasy prospect and cant see harry dropping him unless he is injured so no way i would sell if i had him. On the other hand if i was harry id b pissed off with a player basically saying he wont track back. He doesn't seem like a team player at all to me, all he wants to do is get his own name on the scoresheet.. if every player took that attitude spurs would conceed a hell of alot of goals.. but from a fantasy football point of view, its good news that all he wants to do is score!

Haha, I agree, he does seem to be a lil egotistical...which is why he was at one point @Real Madrid...
"But when I have to track back, that does not really benefit my game. It was only the first time and I received the freedom to come inside from the manager — but you can see from the goal they scored that my strength is in the centre. I’ll do what the coach asks but I am assuming this will not happen regularly"
Saying that he 'basically said he won't track back' is rather harsh... I wasn't there for the press conference so it could be that I am misinterpreting him, but he just gave his opinion on his strengths/weaknesses. I read it as more of an explanation for his ridiculous play that led to Arsenal's goal. Whatever, we all have an excuse, let him be human. Doubt Harry will be too miffed about it.
Bottom line: Doubt very much that he was IRATE and COMPLAINING about the manager's tactics as the press put it, his comment seemed very respectful and just tried to put his two cents into the matter...He assumes it won't happen too much and he'll do what the manager says.
They're not gladiator slaves, for hell's sake...

      2) VDV or Nani. Go with your gut on this one...

Don't think he'll start...but he'll for sure play. Unless Balottelli and Aguero are not recovered from their respective knocks, I believe Mancini will play Dzeko up front, flanked by Nasri and the rest of the crews. (Unless the ol Italian goes mad and plays our old bulldog, sir Tevez). Wait and see if the internationals bring more injury news from the Citizen lot..

What are you talking about? Why wouldn't he start. Great performance last week, and one of Aguero, Dzeko & Balotelli will miss out. Nasri and Silva then to complete the front 4

We don't know for sure if one of those (Kun, Dzeko, and Mario) will miss out...yet. That's what I said. BUT if they really are serious doubts...Then Nasri will definitely start. If Aguero is given the medical clearance then he will double up with Dzeko.

I'm just aware that team news seem to be regularly updated. I thought it would be updated on Friday/Saturday only.. Btw, no one know at the moment.

      Balotelli .. doubt
      Aguero .. doubt
      Tevez .. out

If Nasri stays fit, I think he has a good chance to start.

Keep both Nani and Young to meet Liverpool away and City at home... Yes or No ?

    A.Young Nani Silva Moses (Dyer)
    Adebayor Drogba Aguero

With doubts over Ade and Aguero, I feel my plan of Young > VDV might be less important this week.
Also, A.Young vs Kelly and his cornet might cause problems to Liverpool all the game.

Looking at the volume of transfers it seems like only 30,000 or so have played WC so far which seems odd given the 2 week break.

Having WC'd on the last international break I rode a few bandwagons and sold out the fallers before I got caught out. There was a lot of chat at the time about holding out for this break but it's looking more like that is not coming true.

If there will be a bunch of late WCs played after the weekend then it makes sense to use it now. But if things remain stable, no injuries to watch list players etc.. Then it could be a waste. Discuss?

Am I right in believing that you can’t set you team for the future?

I'll be away from civilization for 9 days form Oct 14th through October 23rd.

I'll prob just have to set a team and let it ride?

Maybe I can teach the lil' lady a thing or two about points hits and let here have at it?

    Hmmmm

After considering Granville's arguments on the value of a transfer, the scale was tipped in the direction of keeping Aguero. After successfully having kept Rooney, I will wait until next Friday before I decide, even if this means he drops .3.

Might do Arteta OUT VDV IN and Given OUT Ruddy IN (got fund the first move) next weekend.

Or is Given-Ruddy and Gabbidon OUT JEnrique IN better considering my defence (Bosingwa, Brown, Simpson, Gabbidon, Boyata)

After considering Bendtner , Long , Fletcher , Klasnic , Ba and Sturrige

Im going for Bendtner after week 9 mainly because i feel he is the best all round striker and will provide more goals and assists than long , fletcher and klasnic would.

Sturrige is a quality player but rotation issues put me off him and fitness issues with Demba Ba put me off him.
