Sunday’s performance at old club Bolton bullets Daniel Sturridge up the new Watchlist rankings. We already had a keen eye on the winger’s weekend progress- Sturridge was on the bench for our Gameweek Seven Scout Selection Committee picks and returned our faith in his abilities with two goals, an assist and a couple of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) bonus points in the 5-1 Reebok rout.

Suspended for the first three Gameweeks due to a straight red card picked up in his loan period under Owen Coyle last season, Sturridge grabbed a goal in his first appearance of the new campaign; an impudent back-heel helped Chelsea to a 2-1 win at Sunderland before he made way on the hour mark.

The following week at Old Trafford harvested just a couple of FPL points and when a knee injury, picked up in the Carling cup win over Fulham, sidelined him for the 4-1 home win over Swansea, Sturridge had fallen slightly off the Fantasy radar. When available, though, Andre Villas-Boas has started the forward in every league game and a return to full fitness allowed him a place back on the right of the Blues front three last Sunday afternoon.

Only last week, the Chelsea boss was talking up the player, confirming he sees Sturridge as a strong contender for the wide right spot, rather than a central role:

I am not sure how Daniel’s career will evolve but I think he has natural ability to play on the right flank. He offers me a little bit of the characteristics that I had with Hulk playing in that position last season when I was at Porto. We count him at the moment as a winger and he competes for that position with the others. He might play there but for this season we don’t plan to use Daniel in the striker position.

It’s 25 FPL points from three games, then, an average of 8.3 per game; the fourth-highest ratio so far this season, behind Wayne Rooney, Bobby Zamora and Sergio Aguero. With Villas-Boas clearly full of faith in the youngster’s abilities, his game time seems promising and priced at a mere 6.5, playing in a top-three team, his Fantasy prospects clearly look enticing.

Four home games and two favourable away trips in the next six Gameweeks (EVE, qpr, ARS, bla, LIV, WOL) looks a kind run of fixtures for Villas-Boas’ side and if Sturridge can maintain the displays that have seen him pick up more Fantasy points than any other Blues forward already, he could well prove to be integral to their Premier League fortunes, as Chelsea tuck in nicely behind both Manchester clubs at the top of the table.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

    Messing about with WC.

    How does this look?

    Schwarzer, Vorm
Kompany, Enrique, P Jones, N Taylor, Simpson
    Nani, Silva, Petrov, Dyer, Tiote
    Sturridge, RVP, Rooney

Not bad. IMO, improvements to be made are:

      1) GK: Don't particularly like either's fixtures. What about Begovic/Krul or Begovic/Given?
      2) Too toppy in defence - Taylor and Simpson will rarely be used with the other 3. Lose 1 of the first 3 for a cheaper option.
      3) Upgrade Tiote with funds from 2) and 4). He is dead wood.
      4) Rooney -> Adebayor (if fit) or Suarez. Nani is enough Utd coverage with their fixtures.

hmm I'm not sure I agree with those improvements at all...RVP is a waste of money when Suarez/Adebayor are gonna score just as many goals

Keep Rooney, get rid of RVP for one of them and then upgrade Tiote to a better midfielder

Maybe. I just think if you're wildcarding this week you must have at least 1, probably 2 Arsenal players. Only Ramsey and RVP appeal to me. Also, Utd have bad fixtures and Rooney has more people to share the points with at Utd (Hernandez, Nani, Young etc), whereas RVP doesn't really. Not much in it I reckon. If wildcarding in GW12 (which I will be), then different story. In summary, I guess I'm a fixtures kinda guy.

I half agree, except my choice would be to keep RVP for his 2 home games and have Suarez/Adebayor instead of Rooney......then swap RVP > Rooney in GW10

My front 3 at the moment are Adebayor, Rooney and Aguero.

RVP move only really for next few weeks as Aguero injured and has Man Utd in GW9. Easy to swap him back in for RVP afterwards.

I don't see the need to get rid if Tiote. He'll be on bench or rotated and will chip in with odd goal , assist and 3 pts for cleanie.

I actually like that keeper combo (got Al Habsi and Vorm at moment). Krull's fixtures turn nasty next month so I don't think he's worth wildcarding for as a long term option.

Funnily enough I had 2 exp Defs and 3 cheapies on Wednesday and got told it was too light in defence. Just goes to show, no matter what team you select someones always going to rip it to shreds.

No Fail in WCing it all those days. Actually there's nothing wrong with moving on a player that's not likely to be an international team risk as well. That said, not really sure if Gary Speed is going to give him (or Bale, Hennessey or Bellamy...I'm pretty sure James Collins withdrew from the squad) a proper run-out tonight or on Tuesday against Switzerland and Bulgaria respectively (he is the CAPTAIN), but I'm pretty sure more than 50% of the deals going down are "idiots" playing with fire. Wish them luck with their 4+pts.

Any obvious moves this Gameweek? 1 free transfer and 0.2m in the bank:

    Given, Ruddy
    Bosingwa, Dunne, Simpson, Brown, Senderos
    Silva, Nani, Sinclair, Ramsey, Moses
    RVP, Suarez, Adebayor

Can't come with anything other than Senderos -> Woodgate.

Yeah, Dunne will be gone soon. Was thinking about keeping him for GWs 9-11 though - great fixtures that I don't mind doubling up on Villa at the back for. Upside of getting rid of him this week is more $ for next week's transfers I guess. Still edging towards Senderos I think...

The two aren't mutually exclusive you know? They have these things called smartphones...you can actually walk out of your house and have it in your hand and do stuff like walk your dog buy stuff, cross the street (with caution though)...just kidding. Oh, and it's not actually anti social unless you actually cut off your friends or people you would interact with in regular life too you know? There are settings that allow people that you don't know and don't want to know from ever having access to you.

I do however find myself perplexed by a growing population of people who would rather sit on facebook than go to the pub.

I am all for the pub and would rip into into anyone chosing facebook over the pub. each to there own though, i can see your logic, if it was only a minority on facebook, but with probably about 95% of pweople you know on facebook do you not think it is time to cave πŸ™‚

I pretty much agree with this. I only use Facebook (infrequently), only really to organise get togethers with uni mates from around the country, as it would be a pain to sort out otherwise. If it wasn't for that I'd probably get rid. But I think the second sentence on your third paragraph sums up my view on social networking.

'The best thing about the internet is that everyone now has a voice. The worst thing about the internet is that now everyone has a voice.'
I'm sure I've read a quote along those lines, and it's spot on for me.

That quote is gold... I may steal it!

I do admit that i am a little extreme in my view.

I do have a Facebook - albiet low profile. Those crafty peeps down at Facebook HQ make it so you have to sign up to access the site. I will use it simply to view friends photos of weddings or whatever that I've not been able to attend.

I agree that it definately has it's uses and can even be a powerful business tool. Plus, I really enjoyed that Social Network film so it has added a small degree of joy to my life πŸ˜€

To me there are definitely better times to WC than to save a 12 point hit. It is definitely wise to get rid of N'Zogbia, Downing, Toure and possibly Suarez. You could do:

      N'Zog -> Ramsey
      Downing -> Silva
      Dzeko -> Sturridge
      Toure -> ?

Also if you did WC, there are surely better options than Brown (leaky Sunderland defence), De Laet (doesn't play) and hoolahan (does he play?)

Defenders you could have cheap options from these teams: Wolves, QPR, Swansea, Bolton, Everton, WBA, Stoke, Wigan, Norwich.

Actually, looking at your defence then you could have a case for using the WC. Does De Laet play anymore? Even if he does I wouldn't be going anywhere near a Norwich defender. R. Taylor is going to be under threat from Santon, and Sunderland (Brown) have been abysmal.

He was on the right...Drogba was "replacing" Torres...When Torres is available again I believe Sturridge will remain on the right. The only potential issue with Sturridge is his distribution from there is slow at times and when we play tougher opponents he tends to blend into the background...and we need him passing faster cause we're penned back....if he overcomes that then he'll almost be certain to start every game (fitness and drop in form excluded).

If you're debating getting him in...I say go for it...he's also fresh from having that 3 match ban...(if that counts for anything)

FISO got the price drop for N'Zogbia wrong. He should have still been a couple of days away from a drop. I was waiting to see if Ramsey gets through the internationals before making the switch. Should I change sessegnon instead (and N'Zogbia next week)? If only I knew Ben Arfa was going to be playing and I would take a hit to get rid of both of them. I might do it anyway. My planned transfer is Ramsey is, but I'm beginning to have my doubts - I've got this nagging suspicion he'll be one of those players whose stats and heatmap indicate potential but somehow it won't come off. I already have RVP, perhaps spreading my bets and having Bolton's set piece taker over their kind run would be a better option...

I've had Ramsey from week one, but watching Arsenal play, I wouldn't believe the hype and if he wasn't my cheapo who plays when fixtures allow I wouldn't bother bringing him in personally. It's a shame that Gervinho was given a forward slot rather than a mid really. Having said that, if you want to boost his price for me that would be great πŸ˜€

          I'd much rather have Ando.

I would chose Petrov over Ramsey if you have RVP. He is enough Arsenal coverage for me at the mo, Boltons fixtures turn for the good and they need wins fast. Wins mean goals and it looks like Petrov will play some part in every goal they score. Ramsey is a good attacking midfielder and gets in the right places, but if you have RVP I think that is enough imo.

Well...Ramsey playing in a team that "should" be doing well...and has contributed with some assists already. He slid in a goal which suggests he could do more of that but really hasn't looked like dominating the midfield yet...if the Gunners improve their confidence I think he'll be an asset at his price. I still think he's worth a shout at that price and in a team that is below par, still manages to get something from a game...(goal or assist)...and playing average...Eg. Moses been striking shots like mad (so looking good) and getting zip...you work that out...!?

Petrov has been great if you consider Bolton's opening fixtures. They look dangerous but that has obviously been canceled out by the quality of opposition. I could be wrong but he may be on corners. He's shown a lot more bite and should be more of an asset...clearly it's been diluted due to opponents faced thus far...I think his price is great for what he's bound to offer most.

Both are in my thinking and will most likely feature in my team this season.

      Can you not have both?

I'm seriously considering doing Young -> Ramsey this week (instead of Mata/VdV) as I think Ramsey could almost be as high scoring as those two, especially over the next two weeks as I work one of them in for Sinclair.

Yes I could have both but I need to spend a couple of transfers on my defence and so I'm reasonably happy leaving Brunt in for a little while then perhaps switching him to HBA to free up some funds.

Never really do a RMT but im on a wildcard so here goes

    Vorm / Ruddy
Rise / Walker / Kompany (Taylor, Simpson)
Nani / Silva / Lampard / Ramsey (Bannan)
    RVP / Zamora / Sturridge

Thinking of having Di Santo over the next few GWs. Capable of big scores on the odd wknd.

It's certainly different, quite a risk including neither Rooney nor Aguero, and with the threat of rotation still hanging over Lamps it's a bold move splashing out all that cash. Perhaps it'll work, do you have an "oh sh*t" plan in case it doesn't? Perhaps it would be sensible to work out how you'd bring in Rooney/Aguero with minimal transfers if their omission turns out to be a mistake.

Agreed its different, Just trying to combat the guys in my league who all have the same players and score within 10pts of each otehre weekly.

My plan to get Rooney back is Lamps/RVP out and Rooney/VDV in 2 GW's.

Just got a feeling Frank has a point to prove. Modric is also a steady point scorer..slightly cheaper alternative to silva.

Who would you have instead of Frank? Chelseas fixtures are good in the medium term - cant see AVB dropping him now. He's had the proverbial kick up the back side! Get a feeling im point chasing there tho!

I would suggest getting Rooney or Aguero - unless you strongly believe that both of those have their form behind them.

Lampard is very expensive for a rotation risk, especially when there are many more options. Bannan is potentially just a short term option, just keep an eye on that. I do like the look of your midfield as it stands though.

Walker - I'm not sold, you can get Enrique, Hutton or BAE for less and similar returns. Same can be said of Riise - quite an expensive option.

I'm not a fan of your GK rotation, probably best get Given/Begovic/Krul/Schwarzer to join Vorm/Ruddy.

I'm all for different takes, and I don't want to lead you to a 'generic' team, but I think you can do better than this one.

        Great response Llamaza.

Cant argue with anything you have said really. My defensive choices have come purely as alternatives to the generic teams i keep seeing. Think i may well go Begovic for Ruddy.

So my question to you is..Say i Thin down the defense slightly...where would you add the extra value in attack?

For one you'll burn an extra 1m on your keepers by shaving off the defence, I'm not sure if you actually have much left after that.

BUT options you can look at:
          Lampard downgrade to Mata/VdV
Riise to Cole - later get in Baines (around GW11)

You also need to worry about Zamora's injury record. I'm a big fan of Adebayor this season (depends if you do/don't have VdV and you're worried about doubling up), an alternative is Suarez, for some reason the 6th highest scoring striker in the game has lost value and after the Man Utd game he has NOR, wba, SWA (and he's still likely to score against United)

Differentials would be Baines and VdV (seems a bit odd, but neither are widely held atm).

Lampard will not play every game
      Sturridge will rotate

No....the only reason (I feel) he went off early was because Bolton put a lot of pressure on us in the box and because we were leading by so much already, made the change to add height and strength to the defense whenever they had their set piece and such...I wouldn't worry...the dude has gone from nearly booted to new contract...says a lot for how he's viewed in the team currently...

On Bosingwa - you're not alone others have expressed that view. Personally I think AVB has made his tactical intentions around fullbacks fairly clear, and he's started Bosingwa even in games in which a better defensive player could be justified. To my mind he's still a fairly safe bet, but I guess we'll see.

I think its pretty clear AVB is an attack minded manager, i think he'd rather other teams worry about his teams attacking threat than vice versa as proved by him picking Bosingwa every game and also sometimes not playing a "defensive midfielder" in Mikel. I wouldnt get too worried about Bosingwa losing his place before it even happens.

As long as his price keeps rising, he's a good pick since its rather simple to do a move to Luiz (if you scrap together the change). You've also got all the other options at his price range: Riise, Jones, Kompany, and cheaper: Enrique, Hutton.

Out of the 4 players I would want Suarez, out of the 2 combo's I would want A. That probably doesn't help.

Not sure what his price is tbh - but there seem to be lots of plausible options between 5 and 6.5 like Ramsey, Petrov, Brunt, Ben Arfa, Jarvis, Cabaye, a certain Fulham player etc. None of them are going to make or break your season but I imagine them all doing a little better than Parker.

like it mostly. Nothing wrong with bos imo, parker on the other hand..... Can do better for that price ie. petrov, cabaye etc.
Wouldn't go without aguero personally, I reckon he'll win golden boot and looks the best captain in 2 of the next 3. (if fit of course)

Not having Aguero does scare me, but it feels to sideways to swap RVP and after being burised so badly GWs 2 and 3 by Rooney I can't bring myself to take him out.

Do people really see Sturridge starting regularly? Surely, at 6.5, that makes him as close to a must-have as anyone in the game?

What to do though - I have Mata, Adebayor, Rooney, Agbonlahor. I'm loathe to sell Agbonlahor since Ive had him for 3 weeks and he has returned 2 goals, 2 assists and 5 bonus points in that time

The amount of brilliant options up front consistently scoring with good form + fixtures is a headache. Especially considering every midfielder outside of manchester has flattered to deceive, yet we need 5 of them πŸ™
Seems like mata, torres, sturridge have established themselves as the main fwd line. They'll all be rotated though.

yeah but it doesn't always work in your favour - when you've big profits tied up in players, you can often be reluctant to sell-on and that can lead to holding players against your best instinct. I still get the sweats over Malouda last season.

Same Malouda mistake. If just worked on building solid foundation, having solid sub options. My complete focus is now on having players i want, will captain Rooney or Aguero regardless of fixtures. Of course much luck involved, but good to have a plan I reckon.

A small gripe with the new site - I think when you are replying to replies in comments from various users it can get tricky if one person is replying to different people, I think the old version of the site had more layers so it was easier and clearer to view replies, i don't know how many indents the old version had and how many the version allows but for me it seems less and can be confusing as you dont know who is replying to who. Can anyone shed any light to this?

We have five levels of reply, the old site had six - not a major difference and we can extend it further. We just wanted to keep things as tidy as possible. We can look at this if it's an ongoing issue though.

Thanks for getting back Mark. That's understandable, I don't know if its just me but it seems like a larger difference. I understand the need for the site being as tidy as possible, but I have found it confusing in some cases when reading through the posts/replies with the newer version of the site.

Really? Do you have replies all open by default? I find that, by having them hidden, I can easily follow a conversation by using show/hide to reveal the thread as it progresses.

Sorry for the late reply Mark, I have it open as a default because several time the thread diverts from the original post. It only get confusing when we get to the 5th level i think, but as i say I may stand alone in this opinion. Just thought i'd throw in my 2ps worth.

Would it be possible to alternate the shading of replies? So, for instance, the first is grey, then white for layer 2, then grey for layer 3 and so on. Looking for the slight indent is a little tricky

I love the new site. One major change and this is just an impression is that it is much friendlier. In the past it clearly crossed the line of adult humour +1 to abuse, new arrivals ignored, even racist remarks. Everyone has their point of view, a ? to ask a joke to share. Im pretty thick skinned, and enjoy a heated debate but some of the Pre new site stuff was unacceptable in my opinion. Thanks for all your effort.

Just wondering... WHYY is everyone even thinking about their changes at the moment. We have a full week to go before the next game week with an international fixture set in between. Imagine how pissed off you will be when you confirm your changes and any of those players get injured before they even play.
