With seven Gameweeks gone, Tony Pulis’ Stoke hover above mid-table in the Premier League and, apart from a surprise hammering at the hands of Sunderland, have made a relatively solid start to the new season.

Campaign highlights to date include draws against Manchester United and Chelsea as well as a victory over Liverpool though significantly, all three results have come at the Britannia. There’s a stark contrast between their home and away form; faced with much trickier visitors, the Potters have managed (W1 D2 L0 F2 A1), compared with (W1 D1 L2 F2 A7) on the road.

With four of their next six Premier League fixtures at the Britannia (FUL ars NEW bol QPR BLA) and given their ability to reduce the league’s most fertile strikers to impotent flops on home soil, the Stoke backline becomes a promising option in the Gameweeks ahead. These impressive defensive displays are no one-off though; since their promotion to the top flight, Pulis has continually masterminded astute resistance at the Britannia, with (15, 21, 18) home goals conceded in the past three seasons.

Ryan Shawcross is currently top-scoring Fantasy Premier League (FPL) defender for the Potters- his 26 FPL points just pipping Robert Huth on 21. The German’s barnstorming 2010/11 campaign saw him start this season priced at 6.0 to Shawcross’ 5.0 but the summer acquisition of both Jonathan Woodgate and Matthew Upson has seen a shift in Pulis’ focus.

Huth has been Stoke’s regular right-back this time round, though the last two games have seen him appear from the bench, with Shawcross firmly re-established as the number-one central defensive option at the Britannia. Subsequently, Huth has seen a slight dip in price, dropping 0.1, while Shawcross has risen by the same amount as a result of their respective roles and game time so far.

While Woodgate, who has been ever-present when available, is another option and a potential bargain at 4.5, his fitness will always be a nagging doubt and Fantasy managers will surely be tempted by the guaranteed game time offered by Shawcross in comparison. Shawcross has also shown a knack for picking up bonus points so far this season. Stoke have chalked up three clean sheets already and he’s returned bonus in two of these fixtures, grabbing 2 at home to Chelsea and the maximum away to West Brom.

Over his last two seasons in the Premier League, the former England U21 cap has also chipped in with his fair share at the other end of the pitch – contributing 5 goals and 4 assists. Given his side’s set-piece goal threat, you would expect him to add to that tally sooner rather than later and with such a strong resilience at the back, he makes a significant climb in our newly-updated Watchlist rankings.

johnfinlay John swears he'll deliver unbiased Fantasy Premier League tips and news...until Leeds get promoted.

In my dream last night Ramsey got 106 points! not sure if that was 1 game week or the entire season! I do remember wishing I'd captained him though!

I have only ever had 1 dream about a fantasy game.
That was Fantasy NRL this year, the player I was planning to transfer in scored 250 points (166 is the highest ever, and 100 is a rare occassion)
As prices are based on performance and only happen at the start of the week, I wait until Friday.
He ended up getting injured Thursday afternoon and didnt play for 2 weeks, so I didnt get him in..
This is a warning to all people wishing to transfer Ramsey in

Of the three I fancy Sinclair to get amongst it the most. Norwich should present plenty of opportunities, whether he takes them or not is another matter.

I don't hold out too much hope for Jarvis or Best. I brought both in ahead of their respective decent run of fixtures. Best has been massively overshadowed by Ba and Jarvis has just failed to deliver alltogeher.

Really hoping Scotland can pull something off tonight. At first, I thought no chance unless Spain put out a B team. But when I think about it, half the Scottish team play half the Spanish team week in week out in the EPL, so that puts the game slightly more in their favour. Still, it's going to be a big ask.

Not a stereotype πŸ™‚ although i am in work in my kilt eating haggis talking aboot nessy πŸ˜‰

I hope we can get the result, supposidly they are fielding a B team, which is probable better than most teams 1st team, but its a sign of hope. We went to France when they were world and european champions and won 1-0. I think we can get a draw tonight, just need to hope the Czechs dont beat Lithuania.

Not sold on your midfield tbh, particularly with Mata who for reasons I'm yet to work out seems to be generating a lot of interest on here. His points tally is average at best, Ramires looks much better value imo. Also, would go for Ramsey over Petrov if you've got the available funds, otherwise swap Taarabt out for him.

Robin van Persie has backed Arsenal to recover from their tough start to the season

"I have every trust in the things we are doing within the club," he said.

"There is only a fine line between winning and losing. Just look at our last match against Spurs. We could have won that game with the chances we had. There is no need to panic for anyone.

"Our start is not good. I would have felt better if we had won the derby. We didn't and right now there is a negative feeling. But I assure you, it is not all that negative.

"It is up to us, players and staff, to sort it out on the pitch."

As late as 1987, the USA army's primary hand-to-hand combat technique was based principly around the Boston crab. Some have targeted over-use of this technique, sometimes used in favour of firearms, as a deciding factor in the result of the conflict in Vietnam.

The Boston crab is a wrestling move pioneered by Larry 'King Crab' Carruthers, after he fell violently ill at a Boston restaurant.
