Not surprisingly, Robin Van Persie leads our gameweek 8 Captain Poll, although the margin between him and second placed David Silva is perhaps not as comfortable as expected.

By his standards, the Dutchman was anonymous at White Hart Lane in the 2-1 defeat last time out and a quiet Euro Qualifier for Holland against Sweden in midweek did little to convince that Van Persie is going into the gameweek with form. With struggling Sunderland travelling sheepishly to the Emirates, Arsenal’s skipper and talisman will surely be looking to boost his 3 league goal tally and carry the Gunners to a much-needed victory.

As for Silva, his class and form is undoubted. The impish Spaniard has been a mesmerising force in City’s midfield, pulling tricks from his repertoire to wriggle free of tackles and, more often than not, provide a killer end product to help feed City’s ravenous strikers. Alex McLeish may have plans to halt Silva’s ascendency as the Premier League’s outstanding performer this weekend; the odds are stacked against the Villa boss succeeding.

Behind these two, Wayne Rooney finds himself in an unaccustomed third spot in our poll, a position no doubt compounded by a testing trip to Anfield that arrives off the back of his dismissal in Montenegro. Rooney’s reaction to last week’s events will surely decide his returns from Saturday’s early kick-off – the Anfield faithful will be on his back, greeting every challenge that comes clattering his way. Rooney’s owners will hope that he’ll deliver an early reminder of his quality and form to help rid United of the ghosts of last season’s 3-1 defeat.

While Dirk Kuyt claimed a hat-trick in the corresponding fixture last term, it was Luis Suarez who was the architect of United’s downfall. The Uruguayan finds himself fourth in our poll, with memories of his performance still fresh. United will hope to welcome back defensive reinforcements in order to counter the movement and trickery of Suarez but, so far, the voting indicates that confidence in the United backline has yet to be restored – the expectation is goals at both ends.

Sergio Aguero’s fitness remains a concern and keeps him bubbling under in fifth place – should he be fit to face Villa, there’s little doubt that he will be set to be the major damage dealer. Noises from the City camp so far indicate that he may well sit out after a futile spell with the Argentina squad.

Daniel Sturridge, Rafael Van der Vaart and Frank Lampard offer strong differential options. It’s interesting to see that Lampard’s hat-trick at the Reebok last time out has immediately put him above the pecking order over Juan Mata when it comes to our poll. Mata is yet to deliver a return on the same scale as Lampard’s haul at Bolton – the Spaniard is surely set to be a slow burning Fantasy asset; we could yet see further evidence of that when Everton visit the Bridge this weekend.

With just over 970 votes registered so far, there’s plenty of time for opinion to shift. Visit the middle column of the homepage to throw your hat into the ring before end of play tomorrow.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

OK, I'll ask please for your thoughts:

    Vorm (Krul)
    DeLaet Ward Bosingwa
    VDV Taarabt Young Silva (V)
    Best Aguero RVP(C)

    Subs: Dyer Simpson Brown
    (1 free transfer - bank: 0.6)

    - I'm thinking of keeping hold of Aguero, although could be talked into selling for Suarez and then doing the RVP > Aguero transfer for GW10. However Dyer vs Norwich isn't the worst sub on the planet.

    - DeLaet I think will either start or not play at all, so Simpson is there (I think this is likely to happen).

    My defense is
    Ruddy - Vorm
    Bosingwa - Kompany - Enrique - Simpson - Brown

WHo should I get in for Brown for 4.6 max?

I cannot find a good alternative.

I have Brown and Simpson and was going to rid Brown until I noticed the rotation over the next 11 weeks which is not bad. As I have other more urgent problems I have decided to wait until I wc

the fact is that I need to make a transfer this week not to lose my saved transfer from last GW and I don't think Brown will be very useful until I WC...ars bol AVL mun looks tough!

I don't think I will touch my key players with this week-end games:
Silva RVP Suarez Rooney Mata could all do well

Then Dyer, Moses and Tiote are still the best 3 sub 5.0 midfielders in my opinion and I have no cash to upgrade them

so Brown looks like the guy who needs to go.

I was looking at Woodgate following suggestions and I was a bit disappointed by his ICT Index (only 15.60 vs. 23.93 for shawcross and 22.48 for huth).

Is he really the best choice?

    Given, Ruddy
    Kompany, Bosingwa, Brown, Simpson, Wilkinson

Also thought of similar changes, but I'm still waiting on Adebayor fitness' news.
        Adebayor -> Sturridge
        Mata -> VDV
        Aguero -> RVP

That said, these changes are forced and not an ideal solution as I planned to swap De Laet and Ward for Barnett and STK defender.

What's the point of perfect rotation if one of the teams is little chance of clean sheets? Don't see Bosingwa owners bringing in Blackburn defenders despite the perfect rotation. 😕

Bosingwa is 5.5 and plays for Chelsea though no need for rotation, no need to rotated attacking fullbacks in bigger teams regardless of opponents (Enrique last week) Unless your defence is full of Man Utd/Chelsea/Man City defences, buying cheap rotaters gives you a higher chance of a cleanie..

The first sentence was the main point of my post, the second one a hastily thought of example. I fail to see how players from poor teams are worth having based on perfect rotation. I have Ward and will be shipping him for a Stoke defender (most likely). Wolves losing 0-3 at home to QPR was the turning point for me.

Not everybody can have a defence full of people who dont need rotating.
Stoke are shocking away, alot of people who dont have rotating defenders will get caught out by this, eg if Stoke are away, and Newcastle/Swansea have tough fixtures, your chance of a clean sheet is alot less than having a Stoke and Wolves defender
I have Enrique/Kompany and Bosingwa in my defence so im not too fussed on rotating, but for teams with weaker defences, it is important.

Jack, not disagreeing on rotation, it's essential for sure imo. But not rotation for rotation's sake - if Wolves got smacked by QPR at home, they are a risk week in week out I think. Agree to disagree? 🙂

                    Haha, well sort of 😉
We dont exactly agree to disagree, as I thought you were arguing with rotation, not with Wolves defence..
I guess it depends on the rest of the defence, and who your other cheaper defenders are.

Yes, but Wolves are better than both of them..
I dont really know how to explain it...but its best to either go with 3 defenders from the top 5 clubs if you hae the cash, otherwise cheaper rotaters are the way.

Hey guys, what do you think?

    Vorm (Given)
    Gabbidon Lescott Bosingwa
    Sinclair Silva(c) Young Moses
    Rooney Ade Suarez

    bench: Simpson Sessegnon DeLaet bank0.0

    A. Sess>Petrov (Moses as first sub)
    B. Ade>Sturridge
    C. Young, Ade > Ramsey, RVP (-4)

A is a longterm move, but I have no ARS and Chelsea attacking cover.
With B I'm not so confident as Sturridge will be a rotation risk soon. But good for this week.
If Young is doubtful I might prefer C.

Yep, but if everyone else captains Silva and he does well (and Dzeko doesn't) you'll be the one missing out, so I don't see the point... just pick who you think is most likely to do well and be done with it.

    Hi Guys

Wondering u can help or comment on my team and any changes I should make medium to long term really. I'm totally new to this and in a league at work so any help is great. Also just signed up to the site.

Im running my wildcard this week and running the following team so far this GW.

    Vorm (Given)
    Jones, Kompany, Enrique (Williams, Simpson)
    Nani Silva, Ramsey, Petrov (Dyer)
    Suarez, VP, Sturridge

I was thinking of bringing in Dzeko for just this weekend instead of Suarez? And will change Williams for Taylor before Sat just hoping he goes up a notch before then.

    Cheers

Any ideas who replaced DeLait at Norwich?
I need to swap him out but don't want someone who could in theory get replaced back again?

Basically who is the Norwich defender for 4.0 who is a guaranteed starter??

Norwich have possibly the worst defence in the league, probably even worse than Bolton's. The only reason to get De LAET was his attacking potential. Russell Martin took his place by the way. If you insist on a Norwich defender it has to be Barnett (1 goal, 1 assist and 5 BP). Tierney is also ever-present but not scoring as highly.

I have been putting my WC off. But the time is nigh.

    Vorm / Given

    Bosingwa / Shawx / Kompany / Brown / Simpson

Silva / Ramsey / Bale / Petrov (bltn) / Sinclair

    Suarez / Rooney / Sturridge

Please, RMT. Leaves 1.4 in the bank. I’d like to upgrade Sinclair but I really don’t know who’s worth the money?! I’d almost prefer to leave it in the bank if I need to sell sturridge

You wont get better value for money than Sinclair.

And Brown? Would rather Gabbidon at 4m than a Sunderland DEF.

The context was irrelevant. I was simply +1ing the banter. Moses is dreadful, even if he does score this weekend or the next he's still useless and still has a dreadul overall score. He'd need to score in every gw to Xmas not to be considered pointless.
