[sbu_large_image] Selection

The Captain poll for Gameweek ten is now in full swing with well over a thousand votes already collected. As expected, Tottenhamโ€™s Rafael Van der Vaart dominates with a third of the vote so far. The outspoken Dutchman goes into a home clash with QPR having scored a brace at Blackburn, while Neil Warnockโ€™s men arrive having been spanked 6-0 on their last away trip. Van der Vaartโ€™s owners will go into the weekend with all the confidence and swagger of the player himself.

While team-mate Emmanuel Adebayor also surfs the wave of optimism surrounding Tottenhamโ€™s chances on Sunday, having collected 8% of the vote, he is separated from Van der Vaart by Cityโ€™s prime attacking specimens โ€“ David Silva and Sergio Aguero.

Gloriously omitted from last nightโ€™s team-sheet, confidence in Roberto Manciniโ€™s selection will now be building and thereโ€™s an obvious swell of opinion that backs both players to start against Wolves on Saturday. The forthcoming trip to Villareal on Wednesday remains a concern however; those handing Silva and Aguero the armband will surely do so with a strong Vice Captain option in place.

A slew of strikers then follow โ€“ Mario Balotelli โ€“ another omitted from Maniciniโ€™s midweek lineup, earns fifth spot. Luis Suarezโ€™ reputation received a timely boost with a classy double in last nightโ€™s win at Stoke and he sits next in our poll. His owners will now be seeking confirmation of a clean bill of health, having seen him wince and limp from the Britannia turf late on.

Wayne Rooney takes the fight to Goodison on Saturday lunchtime for the early midday kick-off. Heโ€™ll be given his usual reception, spiced up by the recent red card in Montenegro and Sundayโ€™s demolition at the hands of rivals City. It could go either way for Rooney โ€“ we suspect that Saturdayโ€™s game wonโ€™t be without incident. Alex Ferguson will surely be firing up his men following the Old Trafford drubbing but, at the same time, the United boss will likely have to curb Rooneyโ€™s โ€œenthusiasmโ€ against his former club.

Surprisingly perhaps, Robin Van Persie sits in mid-table position in the poll. Despite four goals in his last two league outings, obviously the prospect of facing the Chelsea defence is providing a barrier for his owners. Andre Villa-Boas is unlikely to feel quite so confident about putting the buffers on the prolific Dutchman, however โ€“ heโ€™s seen his side concede in eight of their nine games this season and, with Arsenalโ€™s defence equally obliging, goals in Saturdayโ€™s clash look likely.

If youโ€™ve yet to cast your vote this week, donโ€™t forget to fire it off via the homepage before Friday night when our final votes will be collected.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

      If I had to pick I'd say bale. Modric picked up a fair amount of bonus last year that he is unlikely to get under new system.

      I don't like either option though.

              Not in the form he was last year before he got injured. I'm sure he will get better but at the moment 7.9 should be spend elswhere imo.

              I have VDV and Adebayor. (Spurs supporter)

          I don't like either option because I think VDV and adebayor will get the huge majority of goals and bonus for spurs.

          There isn't a lot of value at that price. Personally i would either go lower - Walters, Pilkington, etc etc and spend the spare cash elsewhere or shuffle the pack and bring in someone in the 9.5-10 range.

          The bonus system is done using statistics which are heavily weighted towards goalscorers. Last year it was not.

              I think it was done by a panel who decided on man of the match points, so a player could do well but not score or assist and still pick up all three bonus points.

              The bonus points used to be decided by 'the man in the stand' - FPL would get someone (an ex-pro, possibly) to watch each game and decide the bonus points. You could get some odd decisions, certain players were favoured (Adam, Barry Ferguson, Chris Eagles in the past), and it seemed as though being a distinctive looking player helped (Luiz, Fellaini).

              The plus side was that if someone had a great game without scoring or assisting, they could still get 3 bonus points to recognise their good play. Modric would often be the best player on the pitch and get bonus. Now, if you don't score or assist you're unlikely to get bonus.

        I've told him to put nasri, balotelli and dzeko in this week so aguero and silva can mop up the points.

    Whaddaya think on this weeks dilemma ..? Feeling good about the Balotelli option myself.

    a. Suarez -> Aguero, Bosingwa -> up to 4.9m DEF (eg. Brown, Wilkinson) - 4 pt hit
    b. Suarez -> Balotelli
    c. RVP -> Aguero
    d. Save the transfer

      im holdin suarez, but yeh if you must suarez to ballo sound good, wouldnt get rid of rvp (could be goals at chelski, especially if they get anyone else sent off ๐Ÿ˜‰ ).
      wouldnt do a 4 point hit for a defender, hard to be nailed on for a clean sheet, which is what you want

    Kompany, Simpson, Bosingwa (Ward, Gabbidon)

    Silva, Petrov, VDV, Dyer (Moses)

    Rooney, RVP, Adebayor

    I have one free transfer and 0.3m in the bank.

    I was thinking Bosingwa to Richards?

        Nani's had a few barren gameweeks but I think it's exactly the wrong time to give up on him, United have good fixtures coming up, Cleverley is back and plays Nani-friendly football, and Rooney might have a tough time against Everton (he's even been rested before) so I expect Nani to be more prominent. Thanks though

    Ah sugar. Hutton's flagging means due to his low ownership he's looking over his shoulder at a drop. Can't really afford to take a 0.1 hit, as I was planning on getting rid at some point in the near future. My planned transfer is De Laet -> Wilkinson, but being as De Laet appears to be impervious to dropping despite not playing, maybe I should give Hutton the boot now, and do De Laet next time I get a chance.

    Thoughts?

        From the LFC site:

        Suarez headed the winning goal on 86 minutes but was substituted just seconds later as he appeared to limp from the field.

        Dalglish explained: "He got kicked right at the end of the first half. He turned Jonathan Woodgate. He made contact with him but he tried to stay on his feet to take the chance. That's where he hurt his leg".

        Colonel. I don't think you are mad but I admire your restraint. Nothing done as yet and I am not going to rush for the 0.1 on Aguero. I also do not see this as taking a 4 pointer for a defender. The defensive transfer is free. The four pointer is for the striker change...

    GW11
    Vorm(Given)
    Kompany Simpson NTaylor (Bosingwa Enrique)
    Silva(C) Nani(V) Ramsey Sinclair (Bannan)
    RVP Suarez Sturridge
    Enrique on bench as 6th worst away offense meets 4th best home defense.
    Only question is Bosingwa versus NTaylor.

    If I was to take a 4 point hit to transfer out Suarez (can afford any)

    A) Aguero
    B) Balotelli
    C) Adebayor
    D) Don't do it!

      Presumably you can do B and C without the hit.

    ok dilemma,

    have only three playing defenders (due to woodgate and de laet), one of which is ward (gonna be spanked at city). Is the following move worth a 4pt hit u reckon?
    ward -> richards
    rooney-> aguero

    we reckon richards is nailed on after zab playing last night?

      worth a punt, rishards is likely to play and likely to score more than ward.
      aguero could be good shout too

        Or end up in hospital with third degree burns to his genitals after combining his two hobbies, porn mags and fireworks.
        Or get sent off.
        Or decide he's allergic to football
        Or not play
        Or kidnap Roberto Mancini and tar him gagged and bound to Disneyland.
