Playing three expensive strikers has been a popular strategy for many Fantasy managers this season, but being forced to look at Victor Moses’ name in their squads week after week has forced many to reassess.

The incredible form of Robin Van Persie has made the Dutchman almost undroppable, but Sergio Aguero, Wayne Rooney and Luis Suarez are all stuttering in terms of potential going forwards. Playing with two budget strikers opens up the potential for a big midfield of consistent performers, especially when you consider the recent form of budget options such as Demba Ba.

With this in mind we’re focusing on strikers this week and specifically, those who can bring you the greatest value over the coming weeks. Our first two options are particularly interesting as they effectively come as a pair- Blackburn and Bolton’s fixtures rotate very well over the coming weeks meaning you can choose to play one of the two each week and be guaranteed a decent fixture.

Yakubu
Steve Kean has taken a lot of stick in recent weeks, but you can’t argue that Blackburn haven’t been fun to watch. They’ve scored three or more times on five separate occasions this term including four against Newcastle (in the Carling Cup) and Arsenal, and this weekend’s match against Chelsea offers the potential of another high scoring game.

Despite their terrible defensive record, there is still plenty of value available amongst the attacking options. Junior Hoilett is a viable alternative, but Yakubu –owned by a mere 0.5% of Fantasy managers- offers the greatest goal threat and is 0.5 cheaper at just 5.5. With penalty duties apparently falling to the Nigerian after scoring from the spot in the Carling Cup last week, Yakubu presents an excellent differential option over the coming weeks.

David Ngog
The summer signing from Liverpool has started Bolton’s last four league games, ousting even Kevin Davies from the first XI when Owen Coyle has preferred a lone striker system. Ngog has only scored once but has managed more attempts on goal over the last four gameweeks than the likes of Sergio Aguero. In terms of creating goalscoring chances, he’s third-top forward since gameweek seven, behind Bobby Zamora and Luis Suarez – clearly, there’s plenty potential to pick up the points.

As with Blackburn, Bolton have been terrible at the back but show enough promise going forwards to make their attacking options worthy of consideration. Priced at 5.4, Ngog looks secure for gametime right now, whether in a 4-2-3-1 or 4-4-2 and with a favourable run of fixtures that includes (STO wba EVE tot ALV), the 0.3% owned Trotters forward may prove to be a handy differential over the next few matches.

Andy Carroll
Writing about Andy Carroll as a differential feels odd. Starting the season at 10.0, his price has plummeted to 9.2 after a slow start to the new campaign and as a result, he now sits at just 2.1% Fantasy ownership.

Playing in the shadow of Luis Suarez hardly helps either but over the last four gameweeks, the £35m man is starting to hint at his possible Fantasy potential. Carroll has scored in each of his last two starts and has picked up the maximum bonus points both times, too, outscoring Suarez from gameweek 7-10 by a single point despite far less game time (191 min versus 350 min).

With Suarez owned by 34.7% of Fantasy managers in comparison, the level to which Carroll has been overlooked is particularly significant. Granted, he’s hardly been Liverpool’s most impressive performer but Carroll recently admitted he’s been building up his fitness in training and the hours of hard work finally seem as though they are paying off.

This weekend’s home game with Swansea offers him a chance to continue his recent good form and although Liverpool than square up to Chelsea and Man City, games against QPR, Wigan and Blackburn hint at a prosperous December.

    Given (Vorm)
Enrique Simpson BAE (Kompany, De Laet)
    Silva, VDV(v), Cabaye, Walters (Dyer)
    Rooney, RVP(C), Sturridge

    Future plans:
    GW12; Cabaye and De Laet---> Wilkinson and Sess/Drenthe (-4)
GW13: Given and Sturridge---> De Gea and Graham (-4)

My teams are just plain sucky.

Looked so promising back in the summer when I drafted Chris Johnson, Reggie Wayne, Philip Rivers, Ryan Grant and Dallas Clark in various leagues.

Just did Kompany to Jones...hummmed and haaddd all week on that one. 4 point hit as I already did Gerrard to Nani earlier in the week.
I know you'll all say I'm crazy taking a 4 point hit on defence, but United's fixtures...hmmm. and I would have had to play Tierney away to Villa this week instead.

    Hennessey(Vorm)
    Jones/ Warnock/ Simpson (Tierney, Brown)
    VDV/ Silva/ Nani/ Henry (Dyer)
    RVP(c)/ Suarez/ Sturridge

I know, I know Karl Henry is my Ferguson but at least he plays and gets 2 points...

Can't see a big score for me this week.

    Hennesey
    Saylor, Naylor, Jenny
    Silva, Taarabt, VdV, Sinclair
    Sturridge, Rooney, RVP (c)

    Vorm, B Johnson, McAuley, Kompany

No transfers done. £0.4m in bank. Don't really want to ship out Kompany and not enough by £0.1m to upgrade one of my £4.0 defs to Johnny Evans. Feeling like I'll just hold and hope for the best.

Am I best off taking a hit or leaving it to next week when I can have 2 frees and do Saylor to Evans and Taarabt to Ramsey for no hit, plus some change in bank?

Thats why I don't want to take out Komps, Flynn.

Evans is OK for £4.5m but at least if he doesn't start there'd be 2 benchies to choose from, but Kompany and JENny (Enrique) would still be the 2 permanents.

Yes, budget plays a big part in it.

I have enough to do those changes (Saylor to Evans, Taarabt to Ramsey) and have £0.3m left over.

Will prob have to do them early in the GW though as I can't really afford any price rises and Taarbs will probably drop again after tomorrow.

typically if you have 5-6 of your players contributing good scores and your captain choice is good then you will break 50 points more often then not - if rooney plays upfront, silva starts and 1 or more of your defenders (or goalie) get a clean sheet you should be ok mate

Yeah, that's been my feeling all week. Nice to have it reinforced.

          Sticking with what I have.

Got a 24 point lead in my works league and 17 pt lead in mates league so I should be able to survive a bad week without too much damage done.

    Fantasy suicidal.

Thinking of bringing in Suarez and Aguero banking on a 11 point minimum return from each player. This would be in place of Roonpig and Sturridge with a possible combined return of 8 points. (Roo 2, Stu 6).

    Agu + Sua = 26 pts - 4pts = 22

    Roo + Stu = 8

    14 point profit.

Any one else with such thoughts? 😕

No, Jafa, no....Suarez would be a one game punt...I see little return from him after that until GW15 .

Can u leave Rooney for one more week til u see how Fergie utilizes him in the Sun home game?

I can see the appeal in Aguero this week tho...

Sturridge should be good for at least an assist as well this week

    Schwarzer Mignolet

    Enrique Kompany Warnock TaylorS BrownW

    Silva VDV Moses DyerN PetrovM

    RVP Suarez Adebayor..

    0.3m in bank.

1 free transfer.. I don’t mind taking a 4pt hit but would prefer not to.. where should I start? Basically I want to get Hoilett in the next few weeks and either Drenthe or Ramsey in for Dyer/Petrov next week, along with getting rid of Warnock next week.

Do I need to get rid of Mignolet? Surely I can’t play Schwarzer every week?

You'll certainly want to get rid of at least one of Saylor or Warnock next week and if you save it this week you could get rid of both in one fell swoop for no points hit.

      No UTD coverage.

Would take a hit to bring in Nani for Petrov. The next trade might not go done too well but I'd be tempted to free up my money from the defence. Bad K for a 4 mill def like Barnett, Naylor.

if qpr do produce anything then swp will likely be at the heart of it, i just think man city are a completely different proposition to chelsea in terms of overall quality and that man city have the ability to dig in and grind out a win if they have to + chelsea having 2 players sent off and giving away a penalty was undoubtedly something that happens once in a blue moon and even then chelsea could have still have salvaged a result against 9 men

brilliant fpl prospect, on all set pieces, is as greedy as they come and has no concerns about rotation or playing in european competition - the only concern over him is that he is injury prone - but that is a problem for another day, while he is playing and scoring big the best thing to do is keep him in

Katie what is wrong with you?
You seem to not rate both the dutchmen when they are quite clearly on fire and very good picks.
                Oh well, your loss 🙂

I rate Van Persie - I bloody had him.
I rate VDV ish - but as soon as something upsets him - which it will he'll pull a paddy.

Surely VDV was upset a few weeks ago when he was put on the wing and then 'Arry came out and said Defoe was playing better, then what happened 😕

being completely objective, there are (well-founded) concerns over the long-term continued fitness of rvp and vdv, however, as long as you have a well thought out plan regarding your squad both can be transferred out fairly easily in a matter of weeks for the next form player(s) so its not really a concern tbh, reap the benefits and then move on at the appropriate time

Just did the trade. Now my team for this week is:

            Ruddy

            Jones, Enrique, Wilkinson, Simpson

            VDV, Nani, Silva

            Rooney, Sturridge, RVP

Shoddy defence but hope my midfield makes up for it.

shoddy defence? jones, enrique & simpson are about the best chances of a clean sheet this week

Your defence in FPL is almost a separate team to your mids and attack - no problem having 3 Utd anyway.

Jones - less risk of rotation, better attacking prospects, better player, could play OOPish (def mid), keeps the balance of your team the same.

Unless you've got some sexy plans for that 1.5.

I could certainly make good use of it no matter what, so I'm just considering who offers the best value for money in the medium term. Jones is of course the better option but is he £1.5m better? Will he start over Evans when everyone's fit? So hard to tell what Fergie will do.

So is Jones though, and I can see Utd getting a good few clean sheets in the coming weeks now that Vidic is back, which is something I can't say about Chelsea.

I keep getting this sinking feeling that Aguero is gonna light it up tomorrow. And that Rooney will do nothing.

Sigh. But I can't get rid of Rooney now, I guess.

Two transfers over international break should be fun.

Did a triple for Brown, Milkman + VDV. Allowed me to boot Bramble, Moses and Mata.

Yep, holding the demons at bay for a couple of trades over the break. Taking a slightly more aggressive approach to hits this year.:P
