In the last twenty-five years, Sir Alex Ferguson has upset me on several occasions.

When Mark Robins stooped to head an FA Cup winner at Forest to save his job – that was one. All those “accusations” and mind games with Kevin Keegan – that wound me up a bit. That annoying clock-watching period on the sidelines. Every time he greets a goal with that “Dad dance” celebration of his – that kind of grates a bit too.

Today, on the day that the whole football world acknowledged his immense spell at the helm at Old Trafford, Sir Alex was at it again.

Having stuck my neck out to push forward Jonny Evans and David De Gea as prospects, Ferguson conspired to drop them both to the bench a week after keeping a clean sheet at Everton.

Who am I to question the logic of it all? The man is an undisputed football genius. After all this time, he’s also still bloody unpredictable.

The selection of Rio Ferdinand alongside Nemanja Vidic wouldn’t have been a surprise not so long ago. There’s little doubt that, when fit and at their best, that pairing are the first choice centre-backs. But, in a week where Ferguson had admitted Ferdinand has had to change his game to play a part in the United defence, it seemed likely that creaking Rio would be spared a second game in a week. Evans looked highly likely to start alongside the imperious Vidic.

Not so. Evans was benched – all those who invested in the Irishman were left frustrated and I’m left with Evans in our Scout Picks for two weeks; taunting me like a grinning Aleksandar Kolarov wearing an “I love Victor Moses” T-shirt.

Suddenly it seems Sir Alex is over his Evans blind spot. Maybe Mike Phelan has sat him down and taken him through some highlights. Even with a dodgy back and the tedious Twitter habbit, Rio’s the better bet.

We kind of knew that but, for a while, it seemed Sir Alex was happy to back Evans. Having seen the press make a meal of his comments on Ferdinand, however, it’s almost as if he stuck with Rio to make a statement. To keep us all guessing.

To compound my frustration, Ferguson rested David De Gea to the bench to confirm him as a rotation risk for the remainder of the season.

Thanks for that. By all means rest him before a Champions League game Sir Alex – that’s signposted, we can anticipate that. But rest him before a two-week international break? I can’t work with that – we need some logic to play with, otherwise this relationship is going nowhere. First you shift Wayne Rooney to midfield, now this debacle. We’d quite like to consider your players for our Fantasy teams this season, but if you’re going to act up, we’ll have to look elsewhere.

Honestly, how long does it take for these Premier League managers to work out that there’s Fantasy points and reputations at stake? Longer than twenty-five years, clearly.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Disagree. They are still slightly above average. Just not elite. Of the teams below them, only Arsenal looks likely to pass them and it wouldn't be shocking if Liverpool were able to overtake Newcastle and/or Chelsea, with the latter's less than impressive play lately...

Getting rid of Bosingwa tonight like the rest of the world. Who should I get instead? Can spend up to 6.0 on a defener.
I'm thinking EVE, SUN, TOT and STO defenders will be good for the next few weeks.
Can go for Walker (TOT) for 5.5. Brown (SUN) for 4.5. Jageilka 5.4, Hibbert 4.8 (EVE). Wilkinson (STO) 4.0.
I don't really want to take Wilko since I already ShawX. Brown looks like a good bet, but I might switch Krul to the SUN keeper and then I'll be doubling on SUN defence. Not sure. Think it's between Jageilka and Brown. Both EVE and SUN have great fixtures coming up.

Does anyone else think with TV back for Arsenal, that their defence is worth investing in, after today's CS. Santos looks pretty good going forward and has shown that he's got a goal in him, and seems to be first choice LB now. TV also seems a good bet too and at 6.7 seems way better value than the likes of Terry, Cole, Vidic and Baines.

Dhubanmonkey, I think Bos was benched because AVB realised Chelsea kept conceding with too much attack.

I doubt Bos will start anytime soon due to Chelsea now actually keeping a CS... so it's now between Ward/Bos out for me this week.. probs Bos due to the profit.

Already taken Bos out as clearly he's no longer a sensible option and want to get out before he drops (presumably). Have one other free transfer but several other weaknesses in defence. Can't decide whether to WC or to hold on and make one more transfer at the end of the international break. Head is telling me to hold the WC for a rainy day but I love the idea of starting with a clean slate!

hi, this might turn out to be bollocks but it's a learning process and hopefully better than nothing:
PPI estimates of popular players and bps predictions. defenders are omitted as it hurts my head trying to work out what defensive PPI is and isn't based on.

    Newcastle - Everton:
    Rodwell 36, Ba 27, Gutierrerz 11-15, Cabaye 10, Drenthe 8, Best 4.
    predictions: Simpson 3, R.Taylor & Rodwell 2

    Man Utd - Sunderland:
Rooney 24 (could be as much as 40 depending on whether long balls count for strikers), Welbeck 8 (16 with an assist), Hernandez 9, Nani with assist 4-17 (depending on whether inaccurate crosses are penalised), without assist -4 - 9 (again depending on crosses).
predictions: Vidic 3, Ferdinand 2, Evra 1 (as mentioned above Rooney could spoil the party if long balls count - he must have set some sort of record today with them)

    Arsenal - West Brom
Arteta 40, RVP 38 without the assist, 44 with the assist, Walcott 21-28, Ramsey 10.
Predictions: Vermaelen 3, Arteta 2, RVP 2, Koscielny close behind

    Aston Villa - Norwich
    Agbonlahor 60, Bent 56, Morison 35, Pilkington 29, Holt 15
    Prediction: Agbon 3, Bent 2, Morison 1

    Blackburn - Chelsea
Lampard 53, Sturridge 14, Ramires 13, Mata 3-12 (depending on crosses), Torres 3.
    Predictions: Lampard 3, Ivanovic 2, Terry 1

    Liverpool - Swansea
Dyer 20-23, Suarez 6-9, Carroll 6-9, Allen 6-9, Graham 6-9, Sinclair 3 (range is due to possible points for a draw, 3 is the guess here, 1 point per 10 mins on the pitch is the guess for wins).
    Prediction: Monk 3, Williams 2, SuperVorm 1

    QPR - Man City
    Dzeko 55, Yaya 40, Bothroyd 32, Silva 27, Helguson 16, Aguero 2, Balotelli -7.
    Predictions: Dzeko 3, Yaya 2, Bothroyd 1

these bonus point predictions are pretty ridiculous

simpson 3 whilst r taylor 2 when r taylor scored and simpson only got an assist? taylor had one off the bar and another shot saved on target whilst simpson had no shots at all

rvp 2 bonus points lol. 2 (or 1) assist and a goal plus shots on target.

rooney should not get any bps

pilkington will get bp in villa game, he scored 1 plus had numerous shots on target

a clean sheet could be worth more than an assist (vermaelen v rvp)?
and yes they could all be hopelessly wrong, if they are hopefully i'll be able to work out where and why

The Milkman had high Influence and ICT scores plus 3 shots, all on target. Would be surprised if he failed to get something.

Hard to see Simpson bagging 3 pts.

        🙂

They're both falling tonight? Hmmm, wanted to at least wait til Petrov had played, if not til after intl break. I know Drenthe and Wilko / Shawx won't be invloved, but injuries to other players might mean I've got more important transfers to make (I'm looking at you, RvP and VDV!)

You're going for Wilko over Shawx, is he pretty nailed on?

Doesn't look like Petrov will actually, but i'd bet my bottom dollar on Bosingwa falling.

Yeah, bit worried about doing them this early what with 2 weeks till the next game. But it's a risk im willing to take. RVP and VDV hopefully won't feature much as Holland have qualified, so the coach could do some experimenting. Going for Wilkinson as he seems 1st choice to Huth at RB. Don't like the idea of paying 5.2 for a Stoke defender either + he's injured. Wilkinson played LB in europe too apparently, so i take that as a positive that he can play both positions

Yeah, think I'm going to take the risk and do it early. I've been disciplined so far and it's cost me a load of 0.1s, so my team value has suffered (didn't help having Saha, Taarabt, Nzog and M*ses)

I think Liverpool had 20 shots off target, 5 on target.

On another note, I need a keeper to replace Given to play every game, I was thinking Szczesny. I only have 6m to spend should I?

Larrson. Dempsey fixtures aren't so good.. although why not keep both? Dempsey could be a good differential.. and he's showing same old consistency.

yes. you must've got him at 5.5m, he's gone up .8m which gives you .4m profit. If he goes down to 6.2m, you can only sell for 5.8m, meaning you lost .1m.

I'd like your educated opinions please.. a real dilemma for me atm.

I've had Agbonlahor since GW3. I thought he'd have a good gw today, but despite that, have intended to transfer him out after given his tough run of fixtures. Currently, I'm thinking of switching it up to Bendtner to catch Sunderlands tasty fixtures.

Now that I'm here, actually having 2nd thoughts. Any helpful advice..?

    Vorm Ruddy
Enrique Warnock Wilkinson Boyata S Taylor
Lampard Silva Drenthe B Johnson Moses
    Rooney RVP Suarez

The only player on my wish list is VDV and would be happy to take a hit to get him. Can it be done or do I just accept that you can't have everyone? 😐

Won't lose RVP, Rooney or Silva.

If it can't be done then I would be looking at downgrading Suarez and Doing BJ to Sess or Walters.

Can't really be done if you want to keep 3 12m-ish players and a 10.4. Unless you do something like Suarez to Graham and Drenthe to VDV, but I guess you've just got Drenthe in.

So it's finally time to get rid of Bosingwa. I bought him at 5.5 and he gained a nice rise to 6.3 but he seems to have lost his place to Ivanovic now. Currently if I sell I'll get 5.9 for him. I just wondered how that works exactly... When he falls to 6.2, will I only be able to sell him for 5.8?
