In the last twenty-five years, Sir Alex Ferguson has upset me on several occasions.

When Mark Robins stooped to head an FA Cup winner at Forest to save his job – that was one. All those “accusations” and mind games with Kevin Keegan – that wound me up a bit. That annoying clock-watching period on the sidelines. Every time he greets a goal with that “Dad dance” celebration of his – that kind of grates a bit too.

Today, on the day that the whole football world acknowledged his immense spell at the helm at Old Trafford, Sir Alex was at it again.

Having stuck my neck out to push forward Jonny Evans and David De Gea as prospects, Ferguson conspired to drop them both to the bench a week after keeping a clean sheet at Everton.

Who am I to question the logic of it all? The man is an undisputed football genius. After all this time, he’s also still bloody unpredictable.

The selection of Rio Ferdinand alongside Nemanja Vidic wouldn’t have been a surprise not so long ago. There’s little doubt that, when fit and at their best, that pairing are the first choice centre-backs. But, in a week where Ferguson had admitted Ferdinand has had to change his game to play a part in the United defence, it seemed likely that creaking Rio would be spared a second game in a week. Evans looked highly likely to start alongside the imperious Vidic.

Not so. Evans was benched – all those who invested in the Irishman were left frustrated and I’m left with Evans in our Scout Picks for two weeks; taunting me like a grinning Aleksandar Kolarov wearing an “I love Victor Moses” T-shirt.

Suddenly it seems Sir Alex is over his Evans blind spot. Maybe Mike Phelan has sat him down and taken him through some highlights. Even with a dodgy back and the tedious Twitter habbit, Rio’s the better bet.

We kind of knew that but, for a while, it seemed Sir Alex was happy to back Evans. Having seen the press make a meal of his comments on Ferdinand, however, it’s almost as if he stuck with Rio to make a statement. To keep us all guessing.

To compound my frustration, Ferguson rested David De Gea to the bench to confirm him as a rotation risk for the remainder of the season.

Thanks for that. By all means rest him before a Champions League game Sir Alex – that’s signposted, we can anticipate that. But rest him before a two-week international break? I can’t work with that – we need some logic to play with, otherwise this relationship is going nowhere. First you shift Wayne Rooney to midfield, now this debacle. We’d quite like to consider your players for our Fantasy teams this season, but if you’re going to act up, we’ll have to look elsewhere.

Honestly, how long does it take for these Premier League managers to work out that there’s Fantasy points and reputations at stake? Longer than twenty-five years, clearly.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Sorry but I'm surprised people are talking of wanting RVP's assist removed.

Everyone who uses FFS should surely own RVP by now? So I really don't get why people are calling for his assist chop (AC) 😉

If you don't own VDV & RVP you need them... yesterday!

    Rant over.

Will i Westwood the Sunderland keeper keep his place and how long for? It says that Gordon returns now so who would be first choice? Also how long is Mignolet out for? Sunderland have 3 home games in 4 all with clean sheet potential.

I was also considering getting in either Sess or Bendtner for either Suarez/Ade or Ramsey/Sinclair.

    Opinions?

My view on rvp assist is that it is possible even probable that gervinho touched it, but have seen no conclusive proof on the slo mo replays they have currently shown. So it will stay or there is another replay which shows it clearly inn which case it goes of course.

Is 56 points with VDV and Adebayor still to play a good score? I'm guessing it is, but I'm not sure about anything anymore this season in fantasy.

I was angry that I had to leave pilkington in my team this morning because I didn't want a 4 pt hit. and then he scores. A lot of this game is about luck. I like it.

Looking to replace Cabaye due to injury and general over-reliance on Newcastle. Best midfielder for max 6m?

Tempted by Brunt - Cheap at 5.8, good fixtures and nailed on
    or
Drenthe - Good fixtures, great form but concerned about how solid a starter he is and the fact that he seemed to end up in defence today...

drenthe wasn't in defense today, he attacked on both flanks whole game and he is a sure starter now cuz he is clearly their best player and also he gives them much more chances to score...like today....his corner gave everton a lifeline today...and also brunt...hmmmmm, 4 of the next 6 games WBA has...it's games that looks like it will be wide open so he's a good transfer i guess

Thanks for the replies - Think I'm going to go with Brunt for the reliability factor. I almost bought him a couple of weeks ago but went Ramsey instead as a replacement for Arteta. Since then Ramsey's scored 2 & 3 and Arteta's scored 5 & 8.

Honestly, if I had that midfield, I probably wouldn't touch it!

But, if you're losing Sturridge it would make sense to keep Mata so I would lose Nani. Especially if you have Rooney up front.

Want to get rid of Anderson before he drops so I don't lose my £100k profit on him and have plumped for Drenthe - partly because of his outstanding form, partly because I know he hasn't been called up for the Holland squad and therefore isn't at any risk of getting injured in international games the next two weeks.

Good idea playing it safe? TBH I'd make the same move if there were no int'l break...

yes good but better hope nobody in your team gets injured. i saved two transfers because of the int break.

You will have to work hard to convince people to take the capt off their big hitters.

yeah, there are better options in my team at the moment. RvP looks like nailed on captain material for at least 3-4 more gws. But I like this Drenthe guy. Explosive.

Not enough to captain him but will probably bring him in to my team

depends on if he keeps his assist. In all honesty though a defender will get it. Vidic my guess.

I just did Ward > P.Jones for a freebie. Might also do Dyer > Walters, but is it worth a 4-point-hit?

62 points with Simpson to come off the bench and VDV to play tomorrow. The cracks are beginning to show for those players with bad teams who captained Rooney at the start

and Van persie is going to continue his form when the int. break comes back...they play norwich away, and i can see him scoring yet again...man united probably has the harder game away to swansea...so i think more and more people will take off rooney and put van persie...it is already happening..cuz van persie was on 18.4 percent b4 the gameweek started...and now 20.3 percent picked him..lol

Well I think United have great fixtures too but Ferguson seems to be playing Welbeck and Hernandez further forward and Rooney deeper so I reckon, with RVP's form and fixtures, he'll score big

exactly...man united's next 10 games are games they can at least win 7-9 and draw the rest...it's games they shud win, so, it depends if rooney plays deep like today...cuz if he does..i really don't see him getting much points in these coming games...but if he plays upfront with most likely hernandez...he shud score in those games...i now checked their next 10 games..and i am amazed..lol
