In the last twenty-five years, Sir Alex Ferguson has upset me on several occasions.

When Mark Robins stooped to head an FA Cup winner at Forest to save his job – that was one. All those “accusations” and mind games with Kevin Keegan – that wound me up a bit. That annoying clock-watching period on the sidelines. Every time he greets a goal with that “Dad dance” celebration of his – that kind of grates a bit too.

Today, on the day that the whole football world acknowledged his immense spell at the helm at Old Trafford, Sir Alex was at it again.

Having stuck my neck out to push forward Jonny Evans and David De Gea as prospects, Ferguson conspired to drop them both to the bench a week after keeping a clean sheet at Everton.

Who am I to question the logic of it all? The man is an undisputed football genius. After all this time, he’s also still bloody unpredictable.

The selection of Rio Ferdinand alongside Nemanja Vidic wouldn’t have been a surprise not so long ago. There’s little doubt that, when fit and at their best, that pairing are the first choice centre-backs. But, in a week where Ferguson had admitted Ferdinand has had to change his game to play a part in the United defence, it seemed likely that creaking Rio would be spared a second game in a week. Evans looked highly likely to start alongside the imperious Vidic.

Not so. Evans was benched – all those who invested in the Irishman were left frustrated and I’m left with Evans in our Scout Picks for two weeks; taunting me like a grinning Aleksandar Kolarov wearing an “I love Victor Moses” T-shirt.

Suddenly it seems Sir Alex is over his Evans blind spot. Maybe Mike Phelan has sat him down and taken him through some highlights. Even with a dodgy back and the tedious Twitter habbit, Rio’s the better bet.

We kind of knew that but, for a while, it seemed Sir Alex was happy to back Evans. Having seen the press make a meal of his comments on Ferdinand, however, it’s almost as if he stuck with Rio to make a statement. To keep us all guessing.

To compound my frustration, Ferguson rested David De Gea to the bench to confirm him as a rotation risk for the remainder of the season.

Thanks for that. By all means rest him before a Champions League game Sir Alex – that’s signposted, we can anticipate that. But rest him before a two-week international break? I can’t work with that – we need some logic to play with, otherwise this relationship is going nowhere. First you shift Wayne Rooney to midfield, now this debacle. We’d quite like to consider your players for our Fantasy teams this season, but if you’re going to act up, we’ll have to look elsewhere.

Honestly, how long does it take for these Premier League managers to work out that there’s Fantasy points and reputations at stake? Longer than twenty-five years, clearly.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

If it's uncertain, I really don't think FPL should change it.

Because there is no daylight between gervinho and the defender and so it's hard to be certain, I reckon they'll just leave it as RVP's

      Hope so!

so... Nani just played 90 mins, What a spanner in the works. Was definitely going to sell him based on game time (he's only worth the cash when he's averaging 70 mins a game imo)

But good old alex could well start playing him every game now after I sell him.

    Alex... Quit already.

Am I mad to be considering a Sunderland attacker for the next few weeks? Or is it just safer to go wit someone from Everton? Drenthe, Baines, Saha all come to mind.

Also, what does everyone here think about Hoilett? I reckon he could bang them in over the next 2 months

I think you'd regret bringing hoilett in - the guy has talent and will score every once in awhile, but his team doesn't do him any justice. For 6.0 or whatever he is, there's way better options out there.

Instead of A why not Dzeko + Richards/Kompany? His value is about to shoot up and he's doing better than Aguero the last few weeks. He's about as much of a rotation risk as Hernandez but City are scoring way more than United. And Chic is more likely to give you those annoying 10 minute sub appearances

Agree it's a risk but the 3.0 difference in value and total points scored smacked me in the face today given I play Aguero week in week out and I had to make the swap. Definitely a gamble but one I think is worth taking.

              Definately worth considering.
But I like my forwards to be captain-able and id be too afraid to captain Dzeko as i'd be too uncertain as to whether he would start
Thats also why im thinking Aguero instead of Chico

isn't rvp and adebayor enough up front?
And i am still not sure on sturridge. i don't see him playing on games.
And with hibbert, i had be doubling up on everton defence. I can leave mertesacker for one week.
btw is enrique going to have a price rise this week?

I like 3 heavy hitters upfront as goals means bonus points instantly.

Enriquez is on 46% on Fiso - will probably rise at some point in the break.

Keep thinking of how improve my DF.

Wilkinson : It's a surprise that he has only 1 CS to his name and stands on a total of just 11 points this season. Btw, Stoke will have 2 home games with no Europa in the mid. If he keeps his starting place, Wilko is still a good candidate for the next 4 games. Is Upson worth 0.5 more?

Jagielka/Hibbert : Another surprise to found Everton couldn't keep any CS yet. I still think they can't.. 🙁

Boyata : Injured but could return after the break. Bolton is poor in defense, but Boyata is attacking threat. I think he could be a good cheap choice.

McAurely/Olsson : Not seen much of WBA games. How were they? I've seen they got few CS recently.

Any advice of other obvious DF candidates for next 5-10 games please?

EVE have one cs (v BLB).

ChopperToni 4.8 is the cheapest way in to their defence.

Yep, Wilko is a good shout.

Brown at SUN 4.5 and Turner 4.3 are worth a look and like EVE, have good fixtures.

WBA and BOL defenders are a bit of a liability as they don't really do cs. Neither do NOR but in Barnett 4.1 they have a decent goal threat.

Simpson 4.2 has been great value and rotates with your SUN def. Fix stiffen though.

Fair enough about Hoilett playing with a crap team but his fixtures couldn't be better and I think the onus will be on him to produce the goods.

Who else in that price range do you think would be better options? Coz I can't see many- possibly Saha for 0.9m more possibly, defo not Sturridge on current form and rotation risk, MAYBE Bendtner and Zamora but as good as Bobby is, his fixtures are dire. That's it.

Fair comment about Cahill but I won't gamble on him at that price until he shows some promise.

For me at that price range in the coming fixtures.

      #1: Bendtner
      #2: Sturridge
#3: Hoilett >> Gw14 is the time to get him.
      #4: Zamora
      #5: Ba

Nope. I pick teams' best players for the run of fixtures so that I don't have to change too many players every week. I've only taken point hits in 2 gameweeks. One of which I regretted. Knee jerks are bad. Almost traded RVP when he only netted me 2 points.

I'm tossing up between Ramsey and Drenthe. Price is not an issue and most would pick Ramsey without thinking, but looking at Drenthe play, I seriously can see him as the main attacking threat in the Everton team. He is also taking some wicked corners and freekicks. His dribbling is pretty good as well and can see him getting into the box and winning some penalties as well.

I'm considering transferring Ramsey out for Drenthe if that helps. It's either him or Milner, and Milner tends to play Man City's tougher games, and we know what they can do against the bigger teams.

The Value (Form) stat is quite damning for Lampard; he doesn't rank in the top 30 midfielders. In short, he's too expensive. He'll give you a return all right but it'll cost you elsewhere in your team.

I'm indifferent to that statistic. Right now Lampard's the only consistent performer apart from Mata at Chelsea. That means better chances of him winning bonus points as well. I'd have him already if the next few fixtures weren't so tough.

Atleast Lampard is consistent. He will give you 5-6 points every week with potential for really big scores as well. Can't tell you how annoyed i am with Suarez who costs high and yet gives no return. Just 14 points from him in last 4 games.

That's Mata. Lampard's more like 8-10+ points. And JackOff was telling everyone Suarez would do the deal these few weeks.

It is hard to know what he will do, he did so well in the past but it is clear he is waning. Chelsea may even be better without him then perhaps Torres will start to perform again

As a Chelsea fan, I can say that he's improving. His game is all about passing, possession, and positioning. He was just slow and bad at the beginning of the season but hey, he's gone and scored 7 goals since. I didn't think he would hit 20 again this season for those same reasons but I'm not gonna doubt him again.

Fair call, will wait and see if Chelsea improves their game with him

Thats a good looking team, the toon delivered well for you this gw! I am tempted with Lamps, but it would mean swapping Suarez out for someone like Bendy, so my front line would be compromised. People being put off by his price makes him a good differential!

I know who i would rather have out of Suarez and Bendy for next 4 matches.

            No brainer and hes cheaper.

I've had him in my watch list for a few weeks now, but the Villa game put me off him a bit. 2 goals at home and he had no involvement in either. Saying that he was unlucky not to get on the end of a Laarson cross at OT yesterday. One things for sure, Suarez has to go...

Who is the best defender to get in out of Samba (not sure how long he's out for??), Wilkinson (cheap as chips), Jones, Santos, Jagielka (all 3 have great fixtures), Olsson (in form and decent fixtures coming up), BAE,Walker? I would be dropping Bos for one of them. Current defence = Bos, S.Taylor, Enrique, Brown, Richards. Thanks guys!

a bit quite but dangerous on occasions, sometimes i think he takes a backseat lately with Dzeko and Mario scoring and establishing in the box

    Dear Scouts,

how are the plans for articles this coming fortnight?

Should we assume that the coming week will see little of the regular publishing?
