In the last twenty-five years, Sir Alex Ferguson has upset me on several occasions.

When Mark Robins stooped to head an FA Cup winner at Forest to save his job – that was one. All those “accusations†and mind games with Kevin Keegan – that wound me up a bit. That annoying clock-watching period on the sidelines. Every time he greets a goal with that “Dad dance†celebration of his – that kind of grates a bit too.

Today, on the day that the whole football world acknowledged his immense spell at the helm at Old Trafford, Sir Alex was at it again.

Having stuck my neck out to push forward Jonny Evans and David De Gea as prospects, Ferguson conspired to drop them both to the bench a week after keeping a clean sheet at Everton.

Who am I to question the logic of it all? The man is an undisputed football genius. After all this time, he’s also still bloody unpredictable.

The selection of Rio Ferdinand alongside Nemanja Vidic wouldn’t have been a surprise not so long ago. There’s little doubt that, when fit and at their best, that pairing are the first choice centre-backs. But, in a week where Ferguson had admitted Ferdinand has had to change his game to play a part in the United defence, it seemed likely that creaking Rio would be spared a second game in a week. Evans looked highly likely to start alongside the imperious Vidic.

Not so. Evans was benched – all those who invested in the Irishman were left frustrated and I’m left with Evans in our Scout Picks for two weeks; taunting me like a grinning Aleksandar Kolarov wearing an “I love Victor Moses†T-shirt.

Suddenly it seems Sir Alex is over his Evans blind spot. Maybe Mike Phelan has sat him down and taken him through some highlights. Even with a dodgy back and the tedious Twitter habbit, Rio’s the better bet.

We kind of knew that but, for a while, it seemed Sir Alex was happy to back Evans. Having seen the press make a meal of his comments on Ferdinand, however, it’s almost as if he stuck with Rio to make a statement. To keep us all guessing.

To compound my frustration, Ferguson rested David De Gea to the bench to confirm him as a rotation risk for the remainder of the season.

Thanks for that. By all means rest him before a Champions League game Sir Alex – that’s signposted, we can anticipate that. But rest him before a two-week international break? I can’t work with that – we need some logic to play with, otherwise this relationship is going nowhere. First you shift Wayne Rooney to midfield, now this debacle. We’d quite like to consider your players for our Fantasy teams this season, but if you’re going to act up, we’ll have to look elsewhere.

Honestly, how long does it take for these Premier League managers to work out that there’s Fantasy points and reputations at stake? Longer than twenty-five years, clearly.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Wise move I say. I am considering a 4 point hit to swap Suarez > Bendy for gw12, which will free up sufficient funds to bring in Nani or Lamps in gw13.

-24 point hit is ridiculous... especially with that team!
      Bringing Rooney in is insane.
Wait to see what Adebayor does today before transferring him

Marco, I do agree it could be madness!

Cyrille, Rooney isn't as insane as it may appear because as soon as Cleverley is fit, he WILL be he main man in Utd's midfield and Rooney will go back where he belongs doing what he does best. Adebayor has to go to fund everything else. VDV, yes, I cannot get him in without losing Silva or Mata and I think I'm doing enough transfers as it is!!!!!

You'd be better off waiting until Rooney hits form again and using the money elsewhere (such as VDV). It would be madness anyway at this point, i'd also be wary of the international break coming up. 1 or 2 of the players you're considering taking a 24 point hit on could easily get injured.
What is this blind faith with Rooney? Still, I don't really mind, most my mini league have the same blind faith and it's allowed me to overtake them to the top...
Do what you want mate, but seems like insanity to me

Bringing in R Taylor? Do you really want to be doubling up on Newcastle defence given their next three fixtures?

Rooney is too expensive if he's gonna sit in midfield. I could do with getting shot of him myself.

As for Verm, 6.7 is a hell of a lot to pay for a defender in a team that are hardly renowned for their solidity at the back. You would have to rely on goals to wring some points out of, and there are plenty of cheaper options that are just as effective going forward.

24 point hit is bonkers, and totally unnecessary.

        Rooney - see above.

I think Arsenal's defence will tighten up now he's back and he scores goals too, sometimes.

Merteseacker to Vermaelen - sideways move really.
      Bos to Ivanovic-see Mertesacker move
De Laet to Raylor-see next 3 fixtures before taking point hit for this move

      Keep Murphy, he's on pens
Ferguson to Cleverley = No. One non starter to one injury prone MF

      Keep strikers as are.

With your 2 frees I'd get Vorm in and maybe do Bosingwa to P Jones
The rest can be sorted out over the space of several weeks without the need for points hits.

You have a good MF other than Ferguson and your strikers are fine too so leave those and concentrate on the areas where you are weakest.

I know the temptation is to make rash multiple changes but you really have some very good players there.

If you can't resist it and do decide to take a hit though at least make it worthwhile by bringing in VdV and don't do more than 8 pt hit at the very very worst!

Just seen the Arteta goal for the first time properly and it seems to me that Gervinho missed it and it deflected off the defenders leg to Arteta. Although it's not 100% clear, there is not enough evidence to take it away from RVP, my only slight concern is that the commentator said it hit Gervinho as he watched it for the first time at normal speed.

      Yes, my thoughts exactly.

Yesterday before MOTD I was certain that they'd give it to Gervinho, but now I am pretty sure they won't.

The guys on MOTD never debated it, the replays were inconclusive and the commentator on BBC actually said in his commentary when they were showing replays of the goal that Gervinho missed it.

All in all I don't think there is enough irrefutable evidence to overturn the original call of an RVP assist. The key word there is irrefutable. If we're still debating it now after seeing loads of replays then how can they possibly decipher whose assist it is?

It would be incredibly contentious if they were to take the assist away from RVP based on that. My guess is it will stay as it is.

Swansea unlikely to score so unless Vorm keeps Utd out all day thats a Utd win.

Newcastle, imo, have flattered to deceive. Should have lost to QPR at Loftus Rd and yesterday Everton were actually the better team. Luck going Toon's way at the moment but, at some point, that will change. Also been able to field same backline pretty much all season long. Huge bonus that is. Maybe Utd get a point at worst here.

Villa should be 3 pts for Utd too. That's, imo, 7 points worst case scenario from those games.

I'm playing him too now. In fact I'm prob playing him every week from now on regardless of the fixtures. He's by far the best keeper in the Prem.

I really think someone like Wenger or Redknapp needs to buy Vorm in January, he deserves to be playing for a top club. Should be in champs Lge too.

Sir Alex should be interested too. He'd be the perfect replacement for Van der Saar for them.

But anyway, is it time to get rid of Mata? Thinking maybe to Drenthe. Also need to swap Suarez to someone, either Bendtner or Adebayor but i can afford anyone.

I`m keeping Mata. Apart from yesterday he is consistently scoring well.

I`m also worried that if i bin Suarez it`ll come back to haunt me. He seems to savour the bigger games and if he scores could go on a wee run of points. In saying that I will probably still get rid, maybe for Hernandez who is more of a poacher.

Took an 8pt last week to remove Gerrard, Bosingwa and Surridge (1pt) and bring in Enrique (6pts), Drenthe (4pts) and RVP (30pts)
Of course the three I took out may get 50pts next week but I've got to be pleased withe the results so far.... 😎

Long term moves anyway in my opinion, so you may as well have done them when you did.

You had to get rid of Stevie G and Bosingwa has peaked and will be replaced by Ivanovic now (as he should have been weeks ago anyway).

Sturridge may yet come good again but I'm very seriously contemplating him out for either Zamora or Bendtner now. Other than Lampard, who is way too expensive, I really don't think any of the other Chelsea players are worth bothering with anymore.

    Vorm, Hennessey
    Bosingwa, Enrique, Kompany, Ntaylor, Simpsom
    VDV, Silva, Ramsey, Dyer, Bannan
    Sturridge, RVP, Rooney

2 free transfers. Planning to do Bos to Wilkinson if he plays. i think having both Kompany and Enrique is sufficient so i don't think there's a need for PJones?

Use the cash to upgrade sturridge after that? or Bannan. Need some good changes to my team mini league rivals have Agbon that's killing me and with Rooney not doing anything, that they don't have.

No, still do Bos to Jones if I was you.

Pilkington instead of Bannan or zamora/Bendtner for Sturridge with the other.

I know what you're saying about your rival as my nearest rival also has Agbonlahor. But the way I see it is that Spag Bol is not going to be tearing it up so much in the next few weeks so leave him alone and let that be you rivals problem to worry about.

Chase future points, not past ones.

I have a GK/defender problem heading into next week with 2 Swansea and 2 Newcastle. I was planning on bringing Wilkinson in for N Taylor and Begovic for Krul since Stoke have 2 good home fixtures. Problem is I only have 1FT and taking a hit is a gamble. I can either:

    1. Get wilkinson and play Vorm at home to Utd
    2. Get Begovic and play Enrique away to Chelsea
    3. Do both and hope for Stoke CS in weeks 12 and 13

I'm leaning towards 1 as I see Wilkinson as a season keeper as long as he remains 1st choice. Begovic would only go back to Krul a few weeks later and Vorm has an ok home fixture in week 13 anyway.

I wouldn`t get rid of Enrique just yet. He is easily Liverpools best defender and if the Chelsea match is low scoring could be in for bonus. He will score at some point and could pick up an assist.

Although Liverpool have been poor they have only lost 1 goal in there last three.

No I wasn't at the game, got a virus so spent a lot of yesterday asleep in bed. Saw 2nd half. Really proud of the lads and thought we were genuinely unlucky not to get a point there.

I see a lot of comments that Dzeko is not worth having due to rotation. The truth is that if you had had him from the start he would have given you 71pts (with bonus to come) , the same as Rooney who is £3.6m more expensive and only two less than Aguero who is £2m more expensive. At the end of the day this game is not about minutes on the pitch, it's about points on the board.... Just saying.

Yes, wild rover, but you wouldn't have known beforehand that he was going to get you 71 points because you couldn't be certain in any given GW as to whether he'd start and how many minutes he'd get.

Since none of us play FPL retrospectively we are left with the decision as to whether to spend our
meagre budget and a valuable striker place on a guy whose contribution we can never be sure about from one GW to the next, or on a regular starter who will at last give us some returns every week.

I've said before, if you can handle the frustration of having a Man City striker and some weeks accepting that he won't play at all or will get a 1 point cameo appearance, and some weeks he'll tear it up then fine, get him.

If, like me, that would just frustrate the hell out of you then leave their strikers alone.

      Simples.

This is my team at the moment:

    Given Al-Habsi
    Bosingwa Shawcross Enrique Jones Simpson
    VDV Silva Ramsey Larsson Petrov
    Aguero Agbonlahor Sturridge

What do people think is the right move to make now, I have 1 free transfer and 1 Million in the bank. I'm worried about bosingwa and petrov, I'll wait to see Petrovs performace today but any ideas of who to switch to and any other comments appreciated.

Petrov-Brunt West Broms fixtures ease up now and Brunt has been playing well lately against the so called mid to bottom half teams

Yes I like him and everton still have a double fixture on the horizon
Brunt still on penalty duty though whereas Drenthe isn't so something
To think about both solid options imo

Fairly happy with my team, apart from maybe Dyer,
any other improvements I could make? Thinking N Taylor out for Wilkinson.

    Krul/Vorm
    Jones/N and R Taylor/Enrique/Kompany
    Walters/Dyer/Silva/Vdv,Brunt
    Adebayor/Rvp/Aguero

Team value is quite high I think at £106.4m
So reluctant to take the wrong person out as would not
Be able to buy them back. Thanks

      invest too much in def
team looks beautiful but in FPL we dont need the balance, look at the top overall players, their teams arent really look good and balance but it works well

      your Mid quite weak

54 points with Adebayor VDV and Petrov to play. Not bad?

not bad but also not good
i'm 60 and VDV to come but shame i benched Vorm, Dyer instead of Sinclair. Not really happy this week because Aguero and Suarez just get 2p
