Our Watchlist rankings have recently been updated and are available for your consideration in the sidebar. Read on for details of this week’s talking points, as Steve Bruce’s Sunderland emerge as an unlikely source of talent at both ends of the park…

Michel Vorm’s Anfield heroics see him restored to top spot in our goalkeeper rankings. While Man United visit the Liberty Stadium in gameweek 12, that’s the first of three home games in four for the Swans, with Villa and Fulham surrounding an away trip to Ewood Park. Still available for 4.5 and 10 points ahead of Pepe Reina at the top of the FPL scoring charts, the Dutchman remains strong value and is surely set to build on his 23% ownership over the international break.

While Swansea’s back four- having conceded just a single goal at home- continue to offer value, the Sunderland defence also has fixtures to make them an intriguing option. Kieren Westwood comes into our thinking now. With Simon Mignolet facing a lengthy spell out with a damaged eye socket, the former Coventry stopper will be between the sticks for three home encounters in four. The Black Cats provided a stubborn obstacle for United at Old Trafford and, with John O’Shea potentially returning to bolster Steve Bruce’s rearguard, the chances of a couple of clean sheets in the next month look good. Certainly at 4.4, Westwood offers value to rival Vorm.

Sunderland’s potential is represented by Wes Brown within our defender rankings – the former United man takes his place in our top five, sitting under Stoke’s Andy Wilkinson, with Arsenal’s Thomas Vermaelen and Leighton Baines of Everton. That pairing come from nowhere to top our rankings, with strong fixtures and a substantial attacking threat in their locker.

Vermaelen demonstrated his worth in the 3-0 win over West Brom at the weekend and, having netted 7 goals in the 2009/10 season, has the pedigree to notch strong returns now he’s back and available to Arsene Wenger.

As for Baines, his attacking threat is undoubted – both in terms of his supply of crosses from the left-flank and his quality at dead-ball situations. The emergence of Royston Drenthe may have reduced Baines’ influence from set-plays but he still remains the top attacking Fantasy defender. With four very strong home encounters to come in the next six Gameweeks, you have to feel that, if Baines is going to deliver this season, this forthcoming window could well be his time to shine.

The big movers in our midfield rankings are somewhat predictable. Bolton’s Chris Eagles has attracted big investment following his two-goal haul against Stoke at the weekend. Lower down the rankings, mid-price prospects Stephane Sessegnon and Anthony Pilkington also enjoy boosts following recent form, as does Joe Allen in the budget bracket.

We have Allen’s team-mate Scott Sinclair ranked above him and in our top five; with three home games in four and consecutive goals in his last three Liberty Stadium matches, we fancy Sinclair to go on delivering. Just below him, the aforementioned Royston Drenthe is an interesting differential, with just 1% ownership and the fixtures to bring the best out of his explosive talent.

The form of both Mikel Arteta and Frank Lampard is hard to ignore, despite their price tags, and while Aaron Ramsey is kept just outside our top five, he will surely prosper from Arsenal’s continued run of kind opponents going into December. It’s no surprise to see David Silva and Rafael Van der Vaart hold the top two spots.

Similarly, Robin Van Persie looks a permanent fixture on top of our forward rankings right now. With 10 goals in his last 6 gameweeks, there’s been no sign of the Dutchman letting up and, with strong fixtures in front of him, it could take an injury to derail the Arsenal skipper.

Van Persie’s rivals are struggling right now. Sergio Aguero has just a single goal and assist in his last five appearances for Man City, with team-mate Edin Dzeko now jumping above him in the FPL scoring charts. The Bosnian has two competitive matches before gameweek 12, keeping him below the Argentine in our rankings for now.

Wayne Rooney’s decline has been well documented on these pages and his potential remains limited by a new short-term role in the United midfield. Rooney may return to the forward line at Swansea but, even so, that’s a fixture that will prove tricky for a United side struggling for attacking fluency. Javier Hernandez is placed higher in our reckoning right now and, at 10.0 in the FPL, offers coverage in Sir Alex Ferguson’s lineup for those looking to invest in United’s favourable run of opponents.

Again, it’s Sunderland that provide perhaps the most interesting twist on things here. Nicklas Bendtner is widely criticised and has done little to justify his inflated self-belief. Even so, 3 assists, 2 goals and 5 bonus points has seen him make a decent start at the Stadium of Light and, with beatable opposition in front of him over the next four, he looks set to add to that tally.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I'm suprised he hasn't dropped lower in value. For me Drenthe offers much better Everton value, with Jags as defensive cover. I would challenge also whether Baine's position as #1 pen taker is still as solid as it was either.

Hi, need a little help here. I'm thinking of this as my WC Team :

    Vorm / Ruddy
    Kompany / Wilkinson / S.Taylor / Enrique / Vermaelen
Lampard / VDV / Silva / Sess(Drenthe) / Moses (only for blackburn game)
    RVP / Saha(Bendtner) / Graham

Is it too much money spent on mids? I really like Lampards form, but cant ditch neither of VDV/Silva. Only problem I see in this is having no money for a better third striker. But Graham for Swansea coverage cant be so bad right? Also deciding which Everton+Sunderland duo to go for. I'm thinking Saha/Sess, and if Saha fails to deliver againts Wolves, i can swap him for Bendy, plus it would give me some cash to upgrade Moses (again if he fails to deliver). Any thoughts from you guys ?

If you think about it, you choose all players with good form/fixtures for your wc, then it gets pointless if you have to bench 3 of them. So I'm thinking of benching him for the next three games, and then his fixtures get better again.

Laughing Louis Haha is sheer madness to me, and Vorm/Ruddy is awful rotation. Go Kenny, Krul or Hennessey instead of Ruddy.

And Vermaelen is a huge bandwagon... get off now for cheap option for rotation, and spend the money upgrading Graham.

I am pretty much happy with my team for the rest of the season (bar injuries) i think. i have even decided to keep Moses for the season. He is just missing a little bit of luck and his price is so low now i cant see anyone to replace him with.

    Vorm, Given
    Wilkinson, Kompany, Simpson, Woodgate, Enrique
    VDV, Silva, Walters, Dyer, Moses
    RVP, Rooney, Sturridge

With £1.4 in the bank I am just going to see how Sturridge does for the next couple of games. The only change i see myself making any time soon is Woodgate and maybe Wilkinson. The rest I am going to keep unless they get banned or injured.
What do you all think? & who should I bring in for Woodgate after the internationals?

I'd use the £1.4m to boot Moses, he's done nothing for 1/4 of te season. Why will he suddenly bust into life, especially with WIG's form. You can also generate cash by offing Rooney over the next few weeks if he fails to fire.

And I'd dump Given (I have him, and plan to) since AV are not doing the job at the back.

      Otherwise, nice team.

That double gameweek date is naff. Near enough to wildcard time so anyone worth their salt is going to have a decent side for it. Normally there is a danger of getting too many double gameweek players in if the fixtures are dodgy but EVERYONE will have DVD, probably Adebayor and then one of Bale, Modric, Walker, BAE. Evertn’s fixtures around it are pretty good too so many will treble up there too. In short, boring.

    Chaps,

    Bosingwa - Jones - Simpson - Brown - Naylor

    Am torn between

Am wayyyy behind after a miserable and have to be a little risky, so its either keep my plan of doubling up Sun and New defences or bring in Baines as a massive differential as nobody has him

Looking at it already, I think the correct strategy would be to get the players you want in beforehand without the use of the wildcard and then use the wildcard the last week available to you to plan ahead.

I want the weather to be awful then all hell will break loose!

Think folk are getting a bit carried away with the DGW. Spurs v Everton is rarely a high scoring fixture, and loading up players for DGW's doesn't guarrantee success in my experience. Aside from the obvious players (VDV, Drenthe etc) I for one won't be over committing on Everton/Spuds players.

I think you need to maximise the Spurs players for sure – Plus Harry doesn’t do rotation for league games, he only changes it around Ledley King’s fitness. I get your point with regards to Everton though, as Spurs away isn’t an attractive proposition. Even with ‘attractive’ fixtures around it Everton need to up their form really as you’ll have a few you may not want after that.

At least Fulham don’t have a double gameweek yet, Clint can’t royally bugger me sideways like he has done the last two seasons.

Baines is massively overrated on here, even if he does score and assist quite a bit, the extra £ doesn't justify it

    Jones-Brown-McAuley-Simpson-Wilkinson
    Silva-VDV-Sess-Walters-Sinlair
    Roo-RVP-Klasnic

Have 1.1m in bank to get in Jose Enrique after next two GW's. Not too sure about Klasnic though...Should I get Eagles in for one of Sess/Waltars/Sinclair and get in someone else for Klasnic?

Shocking fixtures for my def next week, got to play two of

    Enrique (Che away)
    S Taylor (Man C away)
    Warnock (Tot away)

At the moment Warnock is benched (VdV always destroys Villa)! Anybody do different? Cheers

Enrique looks your best bet there. Most likely assist magnet even if no CS.

          If it were my choice, I'd reason no CS for either. On that assumption I'd ask myself which player would most likely get me assist or bonus points. Following this logic, I'd go;

          1) Enrique
          2) Saylor
          3) Warnock

If I were you, I'd reson, razek, his team's doing terribly, he probably hasn't got a bloody clue. I'd then ask someone else. 🙂

          Hope that helps.

    Westwood, Vorm

    Kompany, Jones, Naylor, Simpson, Brown

    Silva, VdV, Sessegnon, Walters, Allen

    RVP, Aguero, Adebayor

Heavy reliance on a few teams namely Spurs, Man City and Swansea. Suggestions?

Hey stranger! I like it even though I have only three of those. (If I was wildcarding I would have more) I think Rooney would be a better pick than Aguero but it's a close call.

I like Aguero more. Man City attack is the way forward this year I feel. Dzeko is the potential alternative, but Aguero is more likely to start.

Obviously pending on how the international break goes but I think Dzeko is far superior value to Aguero. Aguero has only completed 80 minutes in the league once! It's hard to score goals in 60-70 minutes now that teams have realized they can't play with City in wideopen games and need to pack it in and keep it close. That also gives you close to the cash needed to move one of Sess/Walters to Nani/Ashley Young/Mata. Alternatively you could squeeze some money somewhere and bring Rooney in for Aguero.
