It’s nights like this we all dread. The words “Rafael Van der Vaart “ and “hamstring” have Fantasy managers on edge, with the breaking news that the on-song Dutchman has limped out of Holland’s friendly against Switzerland with a possible problem.

The Spurs player has been in sensational form of late, with 6 goals and 14 bonus points in his last six league games seeing his Fantasy Premier league (FPL) price rocket since gameweek six, jumping from 9.7 to 10.5 as he helped Spurs take the league by storm. Seven wins and a draw in the last eight games have helped Harry Redknapp’s side up to fifth, level on points with fourth-placed Chelsea with a game in hand.

Sixty-six minutes into tonight’s game at the Amsterdam Arena, though, and Van der Vaart’s notorious hamstring problems reared their head again. At present, there’s no further news other than confirmation of his withdrawal from the goalless draw- nothing concrete on the injury front to report. No need to panic just yet, folks.

Robin Van Persie owners will be pleased to know the Gunners skipper came through the game unscathed but Harry Redknapp-given his recent heart scare- will be off for a lie down.

We’ll bring you more news as we get it.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Thinking more on the VDV front, the other possibility is to downgrade him to someone like Sess, and upgrade Studge majorly (maybe to Ade/Dzeko)? Just musing though.

That was my thinking too. Ade off form and Dzeko a rotation risk especially next gw, after two playoffs.

        It's quite difficult really.

Surely, if he's out for a while then it's either downgrade VdV to Bale or find the extra coinage and upgrade him to Lamps?

It'll be either Bale or Adebayor that would cash in on a lengthy VdV absence.

Sounds like its not serious though so may just be a case where we have to have him on the bench for 1 GW and hope our bench players can do the business that week.

1--- Not a very good defence..
    2---VDV injured
    3---Aguero injured
4--Nani out of form and possibility that he might get dropped
5--Silva rotation risk because of the international friendlies
6---Welbeck in all probability may not start
    7--Wildcard played

1: Don't know your defence but probably no worse than most of ours on here anyway.
2: VdV may yet be fit enough to play next weekend, so don't panic yet.
      3: see 2, above
4: Based on 2 & 3 you may still need him and Utd MF not a cornucopia of healthy players right now.
5: He'll see minutes so, again, don't fret, pet.
6: He probably will start, SAF seems to like starting him when he's fit.
7: Nothing you can do about that now.

So sit tight and wait to see how these injuries play out over the next 5 or 6 days. You may find that you were actually panicking over nothing.

I have a doubt Suarez will perform at the club as same as national team. Uruguay has been under same coach for more than 5 years and was the best SA national team at the last world cup and won the Copa America with broadly same players. The situation clearly different to Liverpool.

I think Evertons luck may run out this time - year on year they go into the season with very average or injured strikers - Vaughan anichebe yakubu ferguson Saha - some of their strikeforce over past 10 years.

I hear what you are saying, just looking at my team i'm now thinking of getting rid of Dyer and bringing in Drenthe (or like you say, could go for Walters) giving the following squad:

        Vorm, Ruddy
        Wilkinson, Simpson, Jones, Enrique, Gabbidon
        Nani, VDV, Silva, Pilkinson, Drenthe/Walters
        Sturridge, Aguero, VP

Looking at fixtures, its surprising how well Pilkington and Drenthe rotate. This could be the rotation i've been looking for.

a Milky and Drenthe combo is not to be sneezed at.

relatively cheap mids who could be classed as "nailed on" and who play big parts for their teams with regard to attacking options plus pens/free kicks

          I'd go for B too.

Drenthe has good fixtures and form, Walters has neither really.

Not overly convinced with Wilkinson though but not much else around for £4m though, I guess.

    Drenthe's goal scoring record ...

    2005–2007 Feyenoord 29 (0)
    2007– Real Madrid 46 (2)
    2010–2011 → Hércules (loan) 17 (4)
    2011– → Everton (loan) 7 (2)

    Overall, that's 8 goals in 99 appearances.

I think that may be slightly misleading, as he used to play at left back sometimes and some of those Madrid appearances will be as a sub; nevertheless, that's not a great record - 1 in 12.

Think I may go with Brunt, who has 1 in 5 for WBA, is a proven performer and who has great fixtures.

Yeah i agree with you, but Bales in a team with an array of attacking talent and goalscorers. Everton arn't exactly spoilt for choice for explosive players. Spurs attack from many outlets whilst Everton are more likely to run through the most prominant player which is probably Drenthe at this point.

I want him in but got more urgent transfers to sort out so you could say i'm waiting for both him and Everton to show glimpses of form. GW16 is when i'll get him in i imagine.

Unless vDVs out for a few weeks, then i'll downgrade him and upgrade Sturridge to Adebayor.

I've been thinking about Brunt v Drenthe since the last gameweek and I'm leaning towards Brunt. Drenthe has shown he can score big but presents more of a risk. He's unproven in the PL long-term, he's currently something of a utility player for Everton (he could play some of his games at left back) and might not start every game. Brunt on the other hand is proven, nailed-on, on FKs and central to everything WBA do.

Ultimately I think it comes down to the rest of your squad - like a stock portfolio; if you have lots of risk in there you need some reliable deliverers like Brunt to keep you afloat. Teams with too much consistency need to mix it up a bit and have an explosive player or two like Drenthe to propel them to the top.

Or, put it another way, a mixture of Punts and Brunts.

Then again, my season sucks so far so what do I know?! 🙂

Bosingwa -wa -wa -wa..........the others I would keep depending on the severity of vdvs injury. I think Suarez will come good and Given will end up in the top 5 or so keepers at the end of the season and anyway keepers are not a big priority this season........

VDV, Bale and Ade is a bit excessive (unless you're looking ahead the the DGW).

defence is a little iffy. you might want to offload a TOT mid to beef it up a little.

other than that, no need to take an 8 pointer for your two .
