It’s something of an understatement to suggest Leighton Baines has failed to live up to expectation this term. The top-scoring defender in last season’s Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game with a total of 178 points, Everton’s left-back started this season priced at 8.0 but so far has returned just 27 points from ten appearances, an average of 2.7 per game compared to 4.7 last time round.

His lack of any real returns has been a strange one- reason would suggest the departure of Mikel Arteta would only have increased Baines’ returns, given that he’s number one for set-pieces and spot-kicks, but the emergence of on-loan Royston Drenthe has currently put him firmly in the shade.

As a result, he’s dropped in ownership, down to just 6% but with David Moyes’ side encountering a strong run of upcoming fixtures, you’d think that if ever he was about to realise his potential, now is the time.

Using our own ICT Index and Opta stats available to members, we analyse his displays so far to ascertain just where, if at all, Baines has under performed.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

      I didnt see his games.
I am so tempted to get him in now...

Wolves, Norwich, Swansea, Stoke (after Europe) at home..... Arsenal and Bolton (both perfectly capable of giving pens away) away. Hmm. I wonder if he will drop to 7.7....

+ infinity to this. Vorm, Krul, Westwood, even Al Habsi all better options than Ruddy.
VdV, Silva, Ramsey, Nani, Young all better options than Gerrard. Do not take Ageuro out, I was gonna do it, thankfully the nice chaps on here talked me out of it.

I like, Spectrum.....nice balance imo. Only advice is not to tinker too much, most of those are keepers!

Like it. Similar to my team.

Have Drenthe instead of Walters. Jones, Naylor, & Raylor are Shawcross, Brown, and Simpson for me.

Tripling up on Newcastle defense may be a bit much.

Does this diminish the English victory or has the shame of loosing to England broken the Spanish side who will now go on a depressing losing streak?

Cant wait when Xavi or Iniesta get old, both Barca and Spain will fail to qualify for either WC,EC or CL 😀

FRA (1984) and Greece (2004) won the European Cup after a 24 year gap between participation. Don't even bother turning up lads.

I think my team is a bit too heavy in midfield. Was thinking about getting rid of Mata to someone like Sinclair, Sessegnon, Walters etc. I can then rebuild my team from there, one transfer at a time strengthening my team and strike force. However, I can't help thinking that there are more important issues to sort out rather than Mata, so don't really know what to do for the best. I've posted my team below, and would welcome any advice:

    Vorm, Mignolet
    Wilkinson, Ward, Kompany, Simpson, Bosingwa
    VDV, Ramsey, Silva, Mata, Cleverley
    Best, Rooney, Adebayor

I have one free transfer this week, and 0.1 in the bank. As always, thanks in advance!

First thing is take Mignolet out for Westwood, you can always play Vorm if you want to wait, but I’ve always felt it’s a bad idea to have a striker against a keeper as someone loses, so unless you plan on benching Rooney, I wouldn’t have Vorm in this week, but that’s just me.

There are two routes to go this year:

2 big strikers and 1 low priced striker - paired with - 3 big mids.

      OR

3 big strikers - paired with - 2 big mids.

You can justify either set up.

      My thoughts:
*Isn't mignolet out for quite awhile?
*Not a fan of Ward or Bosingwa
*Cleverly isn't guaranteed to start - maybe eagles or pilks at that price
*RVP instead of Rooney all day long
*Maybe downgrade Best to Graham - that could give you enough cash to upgrade Mata to Nani
