Fantasy managers received a considerable boost this afternoon with the news that Rafael Van der Vaart is back in training and edging towards full fitness once again.

The Tottenham talisman had, of course, tweaked a hamstring in Holland’s goalless friendly with Switzerland last Friday, limping out of the game just after the hour mark.

Fantasy plans for many were put on ice for gameweek 12 as we eagerly awaited an injury update and although Van der Vaart took to twitter over the last few days to confirm the problem was minor, today’s announcement was the first time the club have commented on the matter.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Joe Jordan was optimistic of Van der Vaart’s chances of a start against Aston Villa and with the game not until Monday night, the signs are definitely positive:

Rafa trained on Wednesday and from what the medical team are saying he’s at 75 per cent. That’s good, but we have to get him from 75 per cent to 100 per cent, we’ll have take it day to day and we do have a few days with the game on Monday. He’s got a chance, but it is important that there is no recurrence of the injury.

The Dutchman has been plagued with the problem since moving from Real Madrid in the summer of 2010 and has already missed the match against Wolves in gameweek four with a similar problem. Given that he had initially been expected to be sidelined for six weeks during that period, his powers of recuperation are clearly impressive and it would appear, once agin, he is on course for a quick recovery.

With 6 goals and 14 bonus points in his last six games, many would have him nailed on as an automatic captain choice this week- the fact he’s currently second in our Captains Poll behind Robin Van Persie is an indication of many managers’ thinking.

It’s a tricky one, though, and leaves many with an armband quandary. The nightmare scenario is he returns too quickly and suffers a tweak again, leaving a 2 point captaincy return. On the other hand, you wouldn’t put it past him to start and grab a couple and the maximum bonus. It’s looking like a bold decision is called for either way, particularly with Van Persie rolling up to Carrow Road on Saturday lunchtime.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Its a risk to give him the Captains armband imo. Play him but captain RVP

I'm giving RVP the armband out of fear. I'm trying to catch up on my mini-league leader and I am certain that he will captain RVP. So I'm hoping that RVP does well, but that Rooney, VDV and Silva also kill it.

I think this might be the 'return of Rooney' GW. I'm planning on getting him in next week.

I've had him all season. He's a definite keeper, quiet few weeks. But hopefully he goes back to killing it.

Rooney's last 7 gameweeks. That, my friend, is not a "definite keeper". Rooney is a typical FPL who you need to catch during his purple patches, especially with constant doubt over his position in the side. Can you imagine how many points you've lost by keeping him for the last 7 gameweeks, over over strikers?

Was all set on saving my transfer this week but not so sure. Shall i:

    A) Use my free to do Given -> Cheapie
    B) Do A next week as part of 2/3 transfers that take my fancy?

Cheapie is one of the usual Big Dawg Westwood, Vorm, Krul etc.

I would say transfer given out next week. I am and hoping he does not drop in value till then.
I feel guilty transferring given out considering, he qualified us for Poland/Ukraine.
But fantasy-wise Given has been an under-performing luxury especially if Vorm is 2nd keeper.

    Wilkinson or BAE?

Wilko will allow me to get in Rooney for next GW (if he's back up top and retains form). Not 100% nailed on though and Stoke have looked poor lately. More tempted by BAE atm as he is nailed-on and going to rise in price tonight, but not convinced about Spurs defence.

Already have Begovic as Stoke defensive cover.

He doesn't mean "going forward" in the attacking sense more like 'in the near future' sense.

I would say it isn't very solid, and a bit of a gamble for 6.1m.

He'll probably start this weekend but with Smalling and Rafael back he will be rotated.

    Silva Vdv Dyer Ramsey Moses
    Adebayor Van Persie Suarez

    Transfer made: Ming to Westwood

Would like to get rid of moses and suarez due to form and vsx respectively, but think defence needs sortin more.

Anybody here could give me the names of those who could rise before the end of this week's deadline?

Looks like BAE, P Jones, Bale, Eagles and RVP are all fairly likely to rise on Friday night/Saturday morning.

BAE the only one who might go up tonight unless there's a late influx

Missed N Taylor from the above list...

Silva & Walters will be very close too.

Nice double rise for those who bought Bale and Eagles simply to make a bit of money on their WC...

Which 3 defenders shall I play? They all have hard teams except jones may be rested due to playing about 150 mins for England mid week.

    Jones (swa)
    Richards (NEW)
    RTaylor (mci)
    Simpson (mci)
    De Laet (ARS)

Well De Laet won't play so it's going to be Jones, Richards and R Taylor

mmm... Aaron Hughes rotates nicely with Naylor. Tough fixtures but could be a blinding bit of business.

Anyone agree? Worth sliding into a WC team?

Looking at him in a few weeks ... not massively keen on their fixtures for now and a bit of uncertainty as to whether he'll play.

Sadly, it is a wait'n see.

Think I'll pop *gulp* Hibbert in the WC afterall.

lads my plan is to get Ba in 3 GWs, should I get him now and ride the bad fixtures or is it better to get in Bendtner in for these 3 and then switch?

Bendtner and then switch in this case. A lot can happen in 3 GWs.

    Vorm
    Brown, Richards, Bos
    Walters, VDV, Silva (VC),Drenthe
    RVP©, Sturridge, Adebayor
    Subs: Given, Sinclair, Enrique, S.Taylor

I have 1.1M in the bank and 1 free transfer. On total fpl Given is at 61% to drop and Bos is at 45%. The options I am considering are:
    1. Given to Westwood
    2. Bos to Wilkinson
    What are your thoughts?

Nice team. Don't go chasing .1s. You have Brown for Sun coverage so scrap Bos for perhaps McAuley? WB surprisingly high in frisking the fixtures.

I have Brown for Sunderland coverage but Wilkinson is a stoke defender for only 4M and they have good home fixtures, another option I was thinking of was Bos to Tony Hibbert. I think Stoke and Everton both have decent chances of a clean sheet whereas I don't see West Brom keeping a clean sheet very often.
