A run of three favourable home fixtures over the next five gameweeks for Blackburn Rovers has lifted Yakubu up the rankings in our recently updated Watchlist. Having recovered from a knee injury that slowed his progress in mid-October, β€œThe Yak” is now back and -judging by his display at the DW Stadium last weekend- getting fed, too.

With Everton anything but prolific in front of goal, a look at his scoring record since moving to Ewood Park questions David Moyes’ decision to allow the Nigerian to leave Merseyside. Yakubu has started six league games for Rovers and scored 5 goals, picking up 6 bonus points for his Fantasy owners along the way, too. The longest he’s endured without scoring is just two games, both tricky fixtures against Newcastle and Manchester City, with doubles against Arsenal and Wigan and a single away to Norwich.

Yakubu’s spot-kick duties undoubtedly help and at 5.5, he’s looking considerably better value for money than David Hoilett. The Canadian is classified as a 6.0 forward in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game but tends to be fielded mainly out wide by Steve Kean and despite playing every minute of Rovers’ season thus far, has returned 3 goals and 3 assists in comparison.

In a struggling team sitting second-bottom of the Premier League, Yakubu has averaged 5.4 points per game- this is better than the likes of Samir Nasri and Nani, who have both averaged 5.2, and is the ninth best tally for any forward so far this season, leaving players such as Daniel Sturridge (5.1) and Javier Hernandez (4.5) trailing in his wake.

With 27 goals conceded so far, it’s Rovers’ back-line that’s been their Achilles heel – Kean’s side have the second worst defensive record in the division but in terms of goals scored, have found the net the same number of times as Liverpool, scoring in every match on their travels to date.

Given their potential going forward, then, the next five gameweeks offer hope for more Blackburn goals. Showdowns with (sto, SWA, sun, WBA, BOL) should offer Yakubu further chance to improve his tally, regardless of how many points his side managed to muster.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

If you own RVP he needs to be captained unless you have inside knowledge about him starting or not. But even 20 minutes is enough to bag a goal or 2.

Semi repost because one guy was confused

I’m wondering whether to play Brown, Kompany, Enrique

Or because City is playing Liverpool to play

Brown, Wilkinson and one of Kompany/Enrique

    Which 3 should i play?

Normally Stoke at home would be a good option for a clean sheet, and i think they will work to tighten up at the back this week so would play him. Leaves a toss up between Enrique and Kompany. I got away with playing Vorm and Enrique a few weeks back. You need to go with who you think will win thse game and play that one!

Don't take hits for defenders. Even if Jones plays (not certain) Man U get a clean sheet (not certain) and whichever defender you replace doesn't get a clean sheet, then your probably going to just get an extra 4 points which is what the transfer cost you.

Also I think Rooney will find form again soon, and start scoreing more than Hernandez, so I'd save the transfer.

Morning all - seriously considering VDV over RVP as (c).....anyone else doing the same?

I think RvP could start from the bench Sat AND in the CC. This means if Arsenal manage to get 2-0 up Vs Fulham without him, he may get a 10 min run-out at then end = 1 point....

VDV on the other hand managed 3 'only' points Monday night and could be in for some points this weekend.....

    Thoughts anyone?

Of course it's an option but not one I'm considering. Can't see RVP getting dropped in the league with the CC on the horizon. Can see him playing at least 70mins vs Fulham then sitting out the CC game completely.

Wenger would be pretty foolish to leave him out in the rich vein of form he's in, especially with the perfect opportunity to rest him coming up mid-week.

Still think VDV will do well though so not saying it's a bad move (thats why he's my VC)

Someone was stating his shots/goal ratio from last year and it was equally uninspiring. I think this year its even worse for FPL managers as the new bonus points calculation penalises players for shots off target.

Hmm no- Rooney 23 shots on goal, Lampard 11. Rooney also up front again since last game. Lampard has also overperformed scoring way too many shots he gets on target, that rate will drop off soon.

This season dough scoring every second shot on goal, I dont see that continuing.

Right lads, team linked. Who's the best striker to get in for the next 2/3 weeks till I draft Ba in? Too be honest could easily just do a one week punt and bring Ba in next wk home to chelsea. Bentder looks a good shout on paper, but even though he's our only striker, he's playing more like a link up player. Dropping deep, holding ball up, laying it off, etc, but rarely in and around the 6 yr box which is a worry. With larrson back though and wigan conceding goals for fun, surely he'll be amongst the points this week?!

He would be my choice (Bendy that is) but I bow to your superior knowledge on how/where Bendy has been playing. Dont get to see much of Sunderland living in China unless they play Man Utd or in a Sunday game.

Klasnic, the Yak or Sturridge at a push could be alternatives

If sturridge was playing through the middle it'd be a no brainer, but he was out wide quite a bit during the week. Could obviously still easily be amongst the points. Klasnic not a bad shout as a one week punt as everton love conceding. If I knew if bentdner was on pens that would swing it but I'd had thought larrson if anyone. Someone said that bendtner had the ball in his hand though at old trafford when we got that phantom pen and both larrson and sessengnon were on the pitch then

On the contrary. WAY outside the box is the best place for Bendy. He's a good player but he couldn't hit a donkey's arse with a banjo. He looks good on paper because of the fixtures. That is all.

I'd probably go for Wilks over Kompany, as I think Stoke might actually sort themselves out this game. Also is there any reason why everyone wants to get rid of Agbonlahor? I know Swansea are good defensively, but surely theres still a chance Agbon will score? I'd personally have him in over Drenthe. The rest of your team looks great though.
