A run of three favourable home fixtures over the next five gameweeks for Blackburn Rovers has lifted Yakubu up the rankings in our recently updated Watchlist. Having recovered from a knee injury that slowed his progress in mid-October, “The Yak” is now back and -judging by his display at the DW Stadium last weekend- getting fed, too.

With Everton anything but prolific in front of goal, a look at his scoring record since moving to Ewood Park questions David Moyes’ decision to allow the Nigerian to leave Merseyside. Yakubu has started six league games for Rovers and scored 5 goals, picking up 6 bonus points for his Fantasy owners along the way, too. The longest he’s endured without scoring is just two games, both tricky fixtures against Newcastle and Manchester City, with doubles against Arsenal and Wigan and a single away to Norwich.

Yakubu’s spot-kick duties undoubtedly help and at 5.5, he’s looking considerably better value for money than David Hoilett. The Canadian is classified as a 6.0 forward in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game but tends to be fielded mainly out wide by Steve Kean and despite playing every minute of Rovers’ season thus far, has returned 3 goals and 3 assists in comparison.

In a struggling team sitting second-bottom of the Premier League, Yakubu has averaged 5.4 points per game- this is better than the likes of Samir Nasri and Nani, who have both averaged 5.2, and is the ninth best tally for any forward so far this season, leaving players such as Daniel Sturridge (5.1) and Javier Hernandez (4.5) trailing in his wake.

With 27 goals conceded so far, it’s Rovers’ back-line that’s been their Achilles heel – Kean’s side have the second worst defensive record in the division but in terms of goals scored, have found the net the same number of times as Liverpool, scoring in every match on their travels to date.

Given their potential going forward, then, the next five gameweeks offer hope for more Blackburn goals. Showdowns with (sto, SWA, sun, WBA, BOL) should offer Yakubu further chance to improve his tally, regardless of how many points his side managed to muster.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

I'm thinking there is a possibility, but I'm not sure I fancy NOT giving him the armband anyway.

I don't think he will play a full 90 minutes, but whether that means being taken off near the end or not starting in the first place, who knows.

I've been set on making no transfers all week but I'm getting twitchy now .. quick once over by a couple of people would be greatly appreciated:

    Vorm

    Barnett, Brown, Walker

    Silva, Pilkington, VDV, Sessegnon

    Aguero, RVP (c), Adebayor

Subs: Schwarzer, Dyer, S Taylor, Ward

£2.3m in the bank, 1 FT

Considered getting Jones for Barnett but think the money could be handy another time and quite fancy Norwich to nick their first clean sheet?

You look good to go. Wouldn't fancy Norwich ever getting a cs. Save the transfer, unless it makes more sense to get Jones in now, rather than next week or the week after when he's more expensive.

Yeah, if I don't get him in now I'll never get him in.

Plan at the moment is to get Baines & Ba for Aguero & Brown in a few weeks but Jones doesn't affect that - if I knew he was starting (and particularly if he was in midfield), I think I'd get him now.

Problem is we'll never know for sure if he'll start, but he will mostly. If 'mostly' is good enough for ya, may as well do it now. & if it ain't, at least you'll have 2 transfers.

i have got pretty much same issue here, Woodgate out for Jones, but since i dont have an extra money and cannot really upgrade Woodgate without taking a hint, i decide to wait and save transfer so i can do 2 FT next week. I also like your idea of first cleanie for NOR, and 2FT with that amount in the bank could be huge next week. and on top of that, is Jones really nailed on (with 4 full games in last 14 days and Smalling and Fabio back)

Anderson out until February confirmed by Fergie today.

Heaping yet more misery on Rooney owners. This must be the final straw for any of you out there who still own him right?

We're now missing Cleverly (til xmas) and Ando which means that Roon is more than likely to continue in MF until at least Cleverly is back.

This is even more likely when you consider that Hernandez is picking up a bit of form and we have Berba looking good when he's been given the chance.

    Get rid I tells yer!!!

JimmyR, above you said: [Don’t take hits for defenders. Even if Jones plays (not certain) Man U get a clean sheet (not certain) and whichever defender you replace doesn’t get a clean sheet, then your probably going to just get an extra 4 points which is what the transfer cost you]

You have to keep in mind, it doesn't often work like that. It's not about whether you get those 4 points immediately, it's whether they're worth it overall. Even if Jones was to come in and score 1 point more over 5 GWs than the defender who would have played for each of those 5 weeks - it's been worth it.

Obviously a bit more in-depth than that, but the never 'take hits for defenders', I don't agree with. Over the course of several games, a defender can easily make 4 points back, just not necessarily straight away.

I agree. I took a 4 point hit for a goalkeeper last week. Brought in Westwood who got me 5 more points.

The reason I took the hit was because if I needed the funds to do a transfer for this week, so instead of waiting for next week to do it, I thought I'd do it this week when I reckon he would get a clean sheet anyway. So now when it comes to my transfer this week, I don't need to take a hit and I have already bagged the points from the clean sheet.

Ok it was a bit too 'all encompassing'. I just meant that his transfer could have waited a week, and hopefully he could do it for free. Of course if one of your defenders is injured and price dropping or theres another who's price is set to soare it can be worth taking a hit for. I just think that unless its really really urgent you can probably wait till you have a freebie to change defenders.

A man is pretty bored and lonely one day so decides to buy a pet.

He ends up buying a centipede and after 10 mins of watching eastenders, decides to ask the centipede if he fancies going down the pub with him. The centipede doesn't respond at all so the man goes back to watching eastenders.

After another half hour or so, the man decides that he bought that centipede so it jolly well will keep him company at the pub; "oi, centipede, we're going to the pub..come on!"

"Calm down, I heard you the first time, I'm just putting my shoes on"

anyone think the returns of Smalling and Rafael makes Jones a big rotation risk? If so, anyone think either of the other 2 are better options? They may also be rotation risks but they're cheaper.

No because the risk of their rotation is far higher and they aren't as versatile as Jones

How's my team looking for this week fellas?

    Vorm
Shawcross | Kompany | Jose Enrique
Walters | Larsson | VDV (VC) | Silva
    RVP (C) | Adebayor | Agbonlahor

Subs: Krul | Dyer | Ward | Simpson

Not too happy with my defence, but it could be worse, I suppose.

Also not sure whether to start Dyer or Agbonlahor. Swansea - Villa could be a 0-0, and Dyer has scored 3 bonus points in each of the 2 out of 3 0-0 games that Swansea have been involved in so far this season.

    Vorm / Al-Habsi

Still think it's a bit silly to get rid of Rooney ahead of a game at Old Trafford if you do have him. The last two weeks I've been rewarded for holding onto players I had considered letting go (Ward, Baines) and am hoping it'll be the third time in a row.

If it doesn't work out, I'll have to get Nani in.

With all of this said I am both smug and annoyed that I got rid of Rooney for Chicha weeks ago, only to panic and bring him back xD

Hey all! I just stumbled across this site today, and thought it be a place for advice. Currently my team is:

    Begovic - (Vorm)

Brown - Jones - Koscielny - (Richards - Ryan Taylor)

    Pilkington - Walters - VDV - Silva - (Dyer)

    Agbonlahor - RVP - Aguero

I've already used up the substitute this week, but I'm happy with what I've got for the weekend. I was thinking of changing Agbonlahor to Yakubu or Bendter, anyone got any thoughts?
