Arsene Wenger admits of “red alert” worries over certain players’ fitness. Zoltan Gera picks up a serious knee injury against Spurs, while Blackburn could welcome back their captain for next weekend’s game against Swansea.

Arsene Wenger has warned of fitness and fatigue issues amongst his Arsenal squad after their below-par performance against Fulham at the weekend. The Gunners boss feels he may have pushed some of his players too far over the last few weeks and looks likely to give many the night off against Man City in Tuesday’s Carling Cup tie. With Robin Van Persie amongst those mentioned, Fantasy managers will be hoping the Arsenal skipper is excluded from tomorrow night’s action ahead of a trip to Wigan that will surely prompt many to hand him the armband:

We have to consider the injuries we have. We have red alerts on a few players. We have a few players on the edge like van Persie, of course, and Walcott, who had a hamstring alert and Ramsey as well. We’ll see how they respond to 24 hours’ rest. Walcott’s hamstring was picked up during the game but he should be OK. At half-time they said he’s all right.

West Brom confirmed earlier today that Zoltan Gera will be sidelined for the foreseeable future after picking up a serious knee injury at the weekend. The Hungarian had only just recovered from injury and made a return to the first-team in gameweek eleven, with Roy Hodgson accommodating him behind a lone front man in a 4-4-1-1. Gera will receive further scans this week to reveal the extent of the problem, with the likes of Peter Odemwingie and Simon Cox likely to see an upturn in game time alongside Shane Long up front as a result of his absence.

Roberto Mancini is expected to make wholesale changes for Man City’s Carling Cup clash with Arsenal tomorrow. The game, just over forty-eight hours after their draw at Anfield, could see Owen Hargreaves set to return, though Gareth Barry and Mario Balotelli will be unavailable due to suspension. Barry picked up his fifth yellow card of the season at Anfield yesterday, while Balotelli’s two yellows and subsequent dismissal means he misses the Gunners clash. Both will be available for the home game with Norwich next weekend.

Reports suggest both Michel Salgado could recover from a hamstring injury in time for Blackburn’s Carling Cup trip to Cardiff. Steve Kean welcomes back David Dunn, after the midfielder served a one match suspension against Stoke at the weekend. Kean admitted he expects Chris Samba and Martin Olsson to be available for Rovers’ crucial home clash with Swansea at the weekend. The pair have missed the last two games with hamstring problems, with the club slipping back to the bottom of the table.

John Terry will miss Chelsea’s Carling Cup match with Liverpool tomorrow after picking up his fifth booking of the season in Saturday’s game against Wolves. The Blues skipper was yellow-carded for his continued hesitancy in taking a throw-in, though Andre Villas-Boas moved to deny suggestions it was deliberate ploy to ensure Terry’s availability for the weekend league trip to Newcastle. Frank Lampard will play tomorrow night, after being rested for the Wolves game- he was also sitting on four yellows prior to the 3-0 win.

Alan Pardew faces a selection dilemma ahead of the Chelsea game, after Jonas Gutierrez’s dismissal at Old Trafford on Saturday. The Argentine will serve an automatic one-match suspension.

Mick McCarthy will have to do without the services of Karl Henry against Sunderland this weekend. Big Mick welcomes back Jamie O’Hara and Stephen Hunt from suspension but Henry picked up his fifth booking of the season at Chelsea, meaning he will serve a one-match ban and sit out the crucial home clash.

Who's worth getting from 'pool? Enrique and Suarez excepted.
    Adam? Maxi?

As for Man U... It's inevitable that Rooney, as well as Nani, will post a big score soon. But when?!
Young looking a little more assured just now? Or perhaps Chicarito for safety until Wayne gets going again?

Not with those comments. I think he's softening up Arsenal supporters (such as myself who is going to the game) to the fact that he's going to field a weaker team and, with Citeh's form/depth, probably throw the game.

He's been hinting for a while about how last year they were too fatigued challenging on all fronts so I've been expdecting him to pitch a half-arsed team in CC (although personally I think it was the mental effect of the CC final loss and the RVP double yellow against Barca that killed us, not fatigue).

Gervinho and Koscielny will get a run out after not starting on Saturday then I imagine Park and Chamakh may get a game. Diaby may start to get him up to fitness. Maybe a sneaky start for Oxlade-Chamberlain as well.

Who of these defenders is least likely to be a late-sub, but would be great value if/when they start?

Smalling, J.Evans, Fabio, Kolarov, or Savic?

I'm thinking of almost always playing them (unless their fixture is awful), because in ESPN's game, you receive the highest bench defender's points if a starting defender doesnt play. That way, I dont have to make a decision on two closely-valued defenders. Good idea?

Hey guys. I've been doing fairly okay the last weeks after a horrific start to the season. I'm looking for a differential to push me further up the rankings, and I'm thinking Baines might be worth a punt until at least the DGW.

    My team:
    Given/Ruddy

    Ward, Brown, Jones, Simpson, Ntaylor

    Sinclair, VDV, Silva, Moses, Ramsey

    Bendtner, RVP, Adebayor

How does Brown/Ward to Baines look? I was originally looking at shipping out Ward, but his fixtures in the next 3 are actually quite good. Sunderland are looking almost as shocking at the back as Wolves atm, at least Ward has some attacking threat. Thoughts?

    1. If I make no transfers my team lineup next GW will be:
    Vorm
    Enrique, Richards, Brown
    VDV(VC), Silva, Drenthe, Walters
    RVP(C), Sturridge, Adebayor
    Subs: Ruddy, Sinclair, S.Taylor, Wilkinson

I am considering the following (I have 3.9M in the bank):
    1. Save my transfer
    2. Wilkinson to Baines, Jagielka, Jones, Johnson, BAE, Vermaelen or Rangel/Naylor
    3. Drenthe to Bale
4? (any better transfers I should make)

Considering an early transfer as Bale, Vermaelen, BAE and Jagielka will rise soon

Drenthe had an ankle injury apparently so should hopefully be fine for next weekend. Jagielka seems to be a lot better value than Baines as Baines has scored 47 points so far and Jagielka has scored 46 but Baines has much more potential to score big, but is he worth the extra 2.5M?

I currently have these players in GK/DF and consider to upgrade Evans.

    Vorm - Krul
    Richards - Brown - Simpson - Naylor - Evans

Budget 6.0mil. These DF have considerably good fixtures to come. Who's best to pick?

    A) Samba .. well-known for his attacking threat. will be back soon.
    B) Jagielka .. looked attacking threat at set-piece
    C) Enrique .. always looked dangerous, but not much delivered
    D) Ward .. could be OOP anytime

    Hiya!

I’m planning to be early on this weeks transfers and thought to ask your opinion. Thinking the following:

    Bendtner -> Hernandez
    Arteta -> ???

First of all, do you think it’s worth the 4 point hit? I’m losing patience with Bendtner, no matter the fixtures Sunderland has in the near future. I have only 4.6 cash to use to transfer someone in for Arteta, after the Hernandez move.

My team as a whole at the moment:

    Krul&Al Habsi
Jose Enrique, Bosingwa, Vermaelen, R Taylor, Gabbidon
    VDV, Silva, Arteta, Moses, Drenthe
    RVP, Adebayor, Bendtner

    I usually play 3-4-3 (95% of matches).

    Thanks for your opinions!

    Krul Hennessey
Wilkinson, Jones, Jose Enrique, De Laet, Simpson
    VdV Silva Nani, Rodwell, Moses
    RVP, Adebayor, Sturridge

All three of my subs came on this week, sort of got away with it but not sure of a couple now. Jones’ rotation risk is worrying me slightly, but apart from that I’m unsure where if anywhere needs to be looked at for this GW. Got one FT and 1.1 in the bank

Was thinking of doing Mata->VdV this week, but Mata has given me the nice problem of having a player in form... What do you guys think? worth the move?

My other option is to do no move this week and then Aguero->Ba and Dyer/moses -> VDV next week to give me a midfield of Silva,Mata,Bale,Vdv,moses/dyer

Yes, it hardly makes sense buying DVD now, given his hammy doubts. If you get a strong steer later in the week that he'll be fit for Bolton, maybe, maybe do it then. But even if he's fit for Sat, Droopy may still give Defoe the nod.

I'd sit on Mata for the time being definitely.

Any Everton fans got insight into Tim Cahill as fantasy prospect? Is he playing OOP? Given that Baines is looking good now there is a chance he could benefit from this. At 9mil there isnt too much else (dont want Bale as have VDV), really only other option is Walcott but not too keen on him either.

Thinking Cahill could be a good differential for the weeks leading up to the DGW, thoughts?

It's a tough one, Ade could easily bag a hat-trick, as could RvP. But there's always the chance of Ade getting a 2 pointer, even if Tottenham score 4, and I think that's less likely to happen with Arsenal.

Someone judge my sanity in the following scenario please:

I bought Suarez in GW9 to take advantage of the "easy" run of 3 games Liverpool had. I haven't sold him yet, but have watched 4 of those 5 games in full & its no exagerration to say that he had at least 6 or 7 great chances across those games, and another 6 or 7 decent chances... the sum total of these chances has obviously been zero goals however.

The problem is I am somehow utterly convinced that he will come good in FF terms, and soon. I just think a player of his undoubted quality is on waaay too few goals in the league (only 4!) and that the law of averages is firmly on his side when it comes to goalscoring over the next 5 or 6 weeks. I fully expect him to be on around 7 or 8 league goals by the time the boxing day fixtures roll around, if not more. If you look at his scoring record at previous clubs, his last season at Ajax in particular, he was a machine for scoring. And the recent 4 goal haul for Urugauay, his unexpected 2 Baps at the weekend, combined with no European distractions for Liverpool are all acting as signposts to an imminent upturn in scoring to me.

I am bored in work by the way.

Two hefty paragraphs of suarez deliberation was an afternoon at work well spent!

I got rid for City game but tempted to bring him back. He has been electric (not scientifically) in every game he has played this season. He always looks dangerous in the box and isnt subject to any rotation.

Keeping the faith and throwing him back in there.

Also thinking about getting rid of RVP, (thinking people so dont kick off) wenger does like to tinker with his line up and RVP has suffered in premier league terms in the past....

Ooooh that's a controversial one [the RVP move]... to be honest I'd never dream of transferring him out barring an injury, he's shown he can still score double figures in a 20 minute cameo from off the bench!

But yeah, Suarez is causing me muchos deliberationés at the minute.
However, I did fend off the urge to transfer in Lamps for Mata a few weeks ago, with a similar logic about how Mata's output was actually nearly identical to Silva over a 5 or 6 game period, but he got shafted for points by sending offs so hopefully I can take my own advice again this time!lol

Johnny 99, I think Suarez will improve his gaol-getting too in time, but were I you, I'd dump his backside mow so a form player (Ade, Agbonga, Ba?). When Suarez actually gets a goal, whenever that may be, then start to think about buying him back. Until then, sayonara Suarez.

I already have RVP & Ade... I'm still not convinced on the Ba-mobile so help me God. That will probably come back to bite me. Hernandez is definietly an option I would like but he's just a little out of my price range & also has the rotation threat hanging over him. I was actually thinking Danny Sturridge as most likely replacement, but can't press the transfer out button at the minute. I'm a utd fan too by the way so its not as if I'm being blinded by club allegiances.

H had a tough summer too and then had to travel half way across the world 3 times since start of season for double international games. We've also played city, arsenal, chelsea, united, spurs and away to everton in our 13 games to date. No more internationals now so he can settle down and start to bang in the goals.

I have been thinking about Gary Speed.

Most people, like myself, are astonished that he seemed so happy and careless just hours before he took his own life.

Why did he not tell anyone about his depression? Why did he put up the façade?

These will be harsh words: I think that a bit of the answer is that many people does not want to be around depressive people, and that many people (especially those assigning power) see depression as a weakness.

I am not dismissing depression in any way, I am barely trying to come to grips and approach an answer to why so many people are forced to quell their emotions like that.

I have 1 free transfer and willing to take a hit, what should I do:

A.) Shaw & Lamps > Baines & Gower (free up 4.5 cash for future transfers.....next week Ramsey > Silva and in a couple weeks Bendtner > Ba)
B.) Lamps > Silva (Silva could be rested this week....CL game against Bayern, then in a couple weeks Bendtner > Ba and downgrade Shaw on defefense)
    C.) Any ideas...
    D.) No transfers....

I want to do A and I know it sounds crazy...my reasoning is Baines for defensive and attacking Everton cover until Christmas. Midfield points are driving me crazy and I think its time to get a low priced mid for my bench in Gower.

Considering transfers who should I play this week:

    Vorm (Al Habsi)
    BAE, Jones, Enrique (Shaw, Brown)
    VDV, Lamps, Ramsey, Sess (Walters)
    RVP, Ade, Bendtner
