Arsene Wenger admits of “red alert” worries over certain players’ fitness. Zoltan Gera picks up a serious knee injury against Spurs, while Blackburn could welcome back their captain for next weekend’s game against Swansea.

Arsene Wenger has warned of fitness and fatigue issues amongst his Arsenal squad after their below-par performance against Fulham at the weekend. The Gunners boss feels he may have pushed some of his players too far over the last few weeks and looks likely to give many the night off against Man City in Tuesday’s Carling Cup tie. With Robin Van Persie amongst those mentioned, Fantasy managers will be hoping the Arsenal skipper is excluded from tomorrow night’s action ahead of a trip to Wigan that will surely prompt many to hand him the armband:

We have to consider the injuries we have. We have red alerts on a few players. We have a few players on the edge like van Persie, of course, and Walcott, who had a hamstring alert and Ramsey as well. We’ll see how they respond to 24 hours’ rest. Walcott’s hamstring was picked up during the game but he should be OK. At half-time they said he’s all right.

West Brom confirmed earlier today that Zoltan Gera will be sidelined for the foreseeable future after picking up a serious knee injury at the weekend. The Hungarian had only just recovered from injury and made a return to the first-team in gameweek eleven, with Roy Hodgson accommodating him behind a lone front man in a 4-4-1-1. Gera will receive further scans this week to reveal the extent of the problem, with the likes of Peter Odemwingie and Simon Cox likely to see an upturn in game time alongside Shane Long up front as a result of his absence.

Roberto Mancini is expected to make wholesale changes for Man City’s Carling Cup clash with Arsenal tomorrow. The game, just over forty-eight hours after their draw at Anfield, could see Owen Hargreaves set to return, though Gareth Barry and Mario Balotelli will be unavailable due to suspension. Barry picked up his fifth yellow card of the season at Anfield yesterday, while Balotelli’s two yellows and subsequent dismissal means he misses the Gunners clash. Both will be available for the home game with Norwich next weekend.

Reports suggest both Michel Salgado could recover from a hamstring injury in time for Blackburn’s Carling Cup trip to Cardiff. Steve Kean welcomes back David Dunn, after the midfielder served a one match suspension against Stoke at the weekend. Kean admitted he expects Chris Samba and Martin Olsson to be available for Rovers’ crucial home clash with Swansea at the weekend. The pair have missed the last two games with hamstring problems, with the club slipping back to the bottom of the table.

John Terry will miss Chelsea’s Carling Cup match with Liverpool tomorrow after picking up his fifth booking of the season in Saturday’s game against Wolves. The Blues skipper was yellow-carded for his continued hesitancy in taking a throw-in, though Andre Villas-Boas moved to deny suggestions it was deliberate ploy to ensure Terry’s availability for the weekend league trip to Newcastle. Frank Lampard will play tomorrow night, after being rested for the Wolves game- he was also sitting on four yellows prior to the 3-0 win.

Alan Pardew faces a selection dilemma ahead of the Chelsea game, after Jonas Gutierrez’s dismissal at Old Trafford on Saturday. The Argentine will serve an automatic one-match suspension.

Mick McCarthy will have to do without the services of Karl Henry against Sunderland this weekend. Big Mick welcomes back Jamie O’Hara and Stephen Hunt from suspension but Henry picked up his fifth booking of the season at Chelsea, meaning he will serve a one-match ban and sit out the crucial home clash.

To repeat my comment posted this morning, I am actively against the bonus point system in use at present, its a complete farce and in my opinion needs to be scrapped. It may work for NFL which is a game based on stats, but not our version of the game. Suarez 2 bps ahead of Lucas a bad joke. Gabby the stand out player on the pitch , nothing, Hart top save to secure a point , nothing. It doesn't work! I would like to have poll created, like the weekly captains poll, to get a feel of peoples views, on which system of 2 used they prefer.

It is a badly conceived system. I was sure Lucas would get two. Hernandez getting three is ridiculous. Things get worse before they get better sometimes so I think of this system simply as part of an evolution towards a better one. Hard to change it inseason but it needs work.

I love the new system and hate the old one by a mile.

This one is predictable. You may not LIKE it, but it is predictable. There are very few surprises.

Goal scoring the most important thing, as it should be. Granville always talked about how strikers should get more for goals, since its only one point more than an assist, and this is a great way to reward that.

Did Lucas deserve more than Suarez? Certainly. But neither scored, so it isn't what I would call a robbery. Same deal with Hart. We knew the rules of the system, so even if its a little wrong ,its not a robbery.

Gabby came close, but DIDN'T score. Why should a guy who's job is to score get points when he doesn't? Because he came close? Who cares if he came close?

And that the most important thing is that even if we don't LIKE how they are given out, they are at least now given out in a way we can monitor and transfer strategically. Don't buy Suarez because hell (usually0 not get bonus due to all his misses. Don't spend much money on defenders unless they are goals threats. Simples. We didn't have that luxury last year. This year's way is fair.

Last year, there was controversy every week. People were scoring braces and getting no bonus. That doesn't happen this year. That's why I think this years system is best.

A footballer should be awarded for performance and impact on the game.Silva a class player didn't get a kick because of Lucas. Nzgobia over Gabby no chance. Plus how do you explain suarez who never came close getting 2, a clear contradiction.

But your problem is how do you decide what 'impact on a game is.' That's way too subjective.

This system is objective, and that is what makes it better than last year's.

Also. not a contradiction, since I was talking about trends. Suarez, in general, is a bad pick up, because he misses so much. This week, he had a few more on target, and apparently in a 1-1 draw. the shots he managed on target were enough.

        Passionately argued.

Would be nice if just +1 bonus could go to players who have added a bit of fantasy eg: great save, gritty goal line clearances, controlling the midfield...paradoxically these sorts of things are not favoured by stats but imo can be a large part of a game

the old system had a flavour of that, but was otherwise shite. Also it was predictable in that the meedjjah's darlings would scoop the baps.

Just a bit more reward for the spectacular, the brave, the downright foolish would be great. Consistency and clinical finishing are very useful, but a bit bland on their own, no?

I like the system being based on pure stats I just don't think the stats have the weighting quite right. tackles, interceptions, clearances and other important aspects of the game which get no other points reward should get greater weighting in the BPs. Also don't think shots off target should be penalised as much as they seem to be.

However I prefer this objective system than last years subjective system, it just needs tweaking.

I can agree with that point, and everything Mac said. I'm not saying the stats necessarily reward the right things, but at least they reward something objective rather than Barry Ferguson getting 3 points for no reason every game the last two years.

Anyone who plays the game knows that strikers and midfielders who consistently blaze away hard won possession uselessly at goal when better options go begging should be penalised way more severely than poor ICT stats!

Yeah, got through in the PPC by 1 point! Almost got scr*wed by Moses.

I have got 2 FT and 0,0 in the bank. Team is:

    Vorm - Ruddy
Brown - Caulker - Simpson - Vermaelen - Jose Enrique
    Sessegnon - Silva - VDV - Allen - Drenthe
    VP - Adebayor - Rooney

This has never happened before but I'm thinking of doing nothing this week (if there is no injury news). It feels really bad doing nothing again. Anybody got some decent suggestions to improve my team?
I was thinking about Rooney & Brown out, Baines and Ba in. But just can't pull the trigger on Rooney....

    Kenny Vorm
    ShawX Jones Brown Simpson Boyata
    Silva VDV Nani Dyer B.Johnson
    Ade RVP Hernandez

    0.0mill in bank

I like the idea of having Baines (practically an extra mid) but it would mean sacrificing one of my big mids, which one? Silva is uber consistant but everyone owns him, boring having him. Nani has no form but Utd have some great fixtures - I expect him to explode vs WOL. VDV plays OOP.

Or, should I just do Kenny --> Ruddy, ShawX --> Jagielka?

Ramsey is looking shocking for fantasy returns, but has Wigan at the weekend, one more chance maybe? (for me maybe) Larsson has good fixtures but has the added instability issue in Sunderland with Bruce and co.

I would go for Larrson if I had a choice, in fact, I think I am doing Ramsey OUT Larsson IN this week or next.

That's exactly what I'm looking at right now! Ramsey hasn't been getting much over some easy games and with tiredness etc coming in and seems to now be less effective goal threat wise, and defo thinking that larsson is doing better and raking some points in.

    1) Vdv and ShawX -> Bale and Richards/Jones

Evans in my team could explain how bad I'm at picking DF.. 😳

    Vorm - Krul
    Richards - Brown - Simpson - Naylor - Evans

I scope down my choices for replacing Evans to these two Js.
A: Jagielka .... STK, ars, NOR, SWA, sun, wba
B: J.Enrique .... ful, QPR, avl, wig, BLA, NEW

Stat wise, Jagielka surprisingly had more shots than Enrique and scored 2 goals so far. Anyway, Enrique had 2 assists, dangerous crosses, and .. umm .. play for a better team. Enrique always looked dangerous but I'm surprised with Jagielka stat and score.

For budget of 6.0mil, which one would you reckon please ?
