The results from the first round of the Paddy Power Cup V are in, and all 512 head to heads can be viewed by clicking here. Although you undoubtedly know your own fate already, let’s have a look at how some of the other ties panned out…

Of our four previous competition winners, three progressed, with inaugural winner donnellyc crashing out in spectacular fashion 54 – 38 to kiwiphil.

Mark overcame graqfreak 57 – 48 to put himself into the next round, alongside fellow Scout greek fan. Anorak and myself gracefully bowed out, leaving just the two to fly the flag.

The top-scorer this week was Gullikgul, who annihilated Boss Hogg 85 – 38. Captain Emmanuel Adebayor and Juan Mata alone would’ve seen Gullikgul win with room to spare.

There were sixteen match-ups which ended all square, which meant overall rank had to be used to find a winner (denoted with an asterisk on the results page).

It’s impossible at this stage of the competition to find a potential winner, but there are certainly some names to avoid. The top-ranked challenger going into round two is 52nd in the world bobbyg. The only other top 100 fantasy manager in the hat is Sir Boulos (77th).

For those fortunate enough to progress this week, check back on Thursday for the second round draw. For everyone else, commiserations and thanks for participating.

So anyone still got Suarez? I feel so stupid for keeping him for so long expecting goals to come when otherwise i'd have had Adebayor. Time to make the obvious move?

now is the time to get suarez in - not before now!

his fixtures pick up from now on.

ben arfa - 5.4million get on it. marveaux, guttierrez, tiote all out for a while newcastle fixtures pick up now also.

Got him, keeping him. Best liverpool player imo.
He's in the same category as VDV, RVP and Silva. The player who make the team tick.

Weeks 15-18 he has QPR, Villa, Wigan, Blackburn. Only ManU and Newcastle have fixtures anywhere near that kind in the same span. Plus he takes a monstrous amount of shots - twice as many as anybody else on the team. I think if he scores against Fulham this weekend, there will be an enormous bandwagon.

I thought that for the last two months during good and bad fixtures. He did nothing during that time. Plus he has a racism charge over him. Don't get too clouded by fixtures. Ba, Hernandez, Ade, Rvp, sturridge, even hoilet are better prospects. I got rid for Ade last week and my team is a happier place.

If you take long term as 4/5 GWs, then that sounds good. If fit Ba and Baines will play every game.
Can't say that about the Man Utd 2.

I'm tentatively set on Ba & Baines as my moves this week too. No united cover either. Ba and Baines are more explosive than the other two, and as mentioned, guaranteed starters. Ba on pens also.

Long term it's got to be Hernandez and Jones for me. United stil have great fixtures and are keeping cleanies while Chico is scoring consistantly.

You could argue Ba and Baines offer a better short term option. Newcastle have great fixtures between GW15-18. Sadly though I just don't think Baines is worth the moolah this time. He's picked up some points in the last couple of weeks but I think the United boys will return more over an extended period.

Looking for a bit of advice. I'm pretty sure in my own mind what I should do, but I'd be interested in hearing opinions.

My forward line is RVP-Rooney-Suarez (I know!!). Adebayor is going up again tonight so I am bringing him in for either Rooney or Suarez. Both have 3 away games in 4, both are failing to pick up points and both fill me with dread that they will explode once I sell them!

If I get rid of Rooney I have no Man U cover and if Suarez goes, I'll have Jose Enrique as Liverpool cover.

Who should go first..Rooney or Suarez?

That's the move I'm making. Just trying to decide which one of Walters and Ramsay to sacrifice. Difficult thing is, if I'm leaving Ramsay in this week I've got to commit tonight which I'm slightly tentative to do as ultimately the move is to fund Adebayor in for Bendtner!

Redknapp's dilemma over Defoe is shaped by the fitness of Rafael van der Vaart. The Dutchman did not play at West Bromwich because of hamstring trouble and, although he expects to be fit for the visit of Bolton Wanderers on Saturday, the club's medics believe his return is more likely to come the following Sunday at Stoke City. If Van der Vaart cannot play against Bolton Defoe stands to play three times in a week, which is precisely what Redknapp is trying to avoid with his players. Defoe has grown irritated at Redknapp's preference for Van der Vaart and, while the manager described it as "a nice problem to have", he is clearly reluctant to leave out Van der Vaart. "They would both be upset, but Rafa has not been left out yet," Redknapp said. "It would be a big shout, wouldn't it?" The midfielder Luka Modric will be fit for Bolton after missing West Bromwich through illness.

Would playing three times in a week for the first time in ages really be that much of an issue for Defoe?? Once vdV and Pav return he's unlikely to have to do it again either. I know HR wants to avoid giving his players 3 games a week but as a one off I don't think it will be much of an issue...

2-0 Barcelona. Messi throughball finds Xavi advancing into the penalty area, who spectacularly, albeit accidently, backheels it over his head, up into the air and into the path of Alexis Sanchez who controls it as he runs and taps it in cooly. Seconds later, Villa makes it 3-0 after good interplay between an extremely advanced Pique finding Alves unmarked in the box. He squares it to Villa and its a tap in.

Didn't see the football tonight, few questions.

    1) I see Chelsea lost again, do fans care that much or is the pressure back on AVB? (not that it ever wasn't. Even though it's a tad unfair)
    2) I see Aguero played 60 minutes, do we think he'll be rested with Balo up front vs. Norwich? City play Munich on Tuesday don't they?

Aguero --> Adebayor and S.Taylor --> Baines is too tempting.

It seems every week AVB will be asked the question about his future. Quite sad. It reminds me of that happening with Ancelotti despite him winning the double in his first year and every time they didn't win a match it was a question of him getting the boot.

Makes you wonder if they made the right choice. Ancelotti had a terrible spell in December/January last year, but they still finished 2nd. For any manager to win a double, then finish 2nd the next season is a very good achievement. Shows how much trophies count!

I know it is and it's the way it has become acceptable. I had a rant on here a couple of weeks ago about watching SkyS Sunday supplement that I had recorded when I was holiday, the main topic the daily paper journalists were discussing was whether Michael Owen should be in the England squad after scoring 2 goals v Leeds in the CC, 3 weeks later the topic was ludicrous as well as laughable, it's knee jerk journalism but so many people listen and read that tripe.

I was sad to see Ancelotti go, happy to see AVB come in but very dissapointed with the way things are going, I'm confident he'll be given plenty of time so I draw heart from SAF's position when he first went to Man U. But it's not easy, I used to be used to us being wonderful to watch but not competing for many- or at times any trophies, then we were fairly boring and in line to win lots, then we fluctuated and Ancelotti came in and we were entertaining and successful. Now AVB is here, I wince when I watch us and fear for our trophy prospects. What if he's given time and nothing changes?

+1 am keeping Aguero this week and swapping him for Ba next week. I was looking at taking out Sinclair this week, but if VdV doesn't look likely to play I may keep him in and take out Woodgate to give me an extra option of someone who'll play. It'll all be decided on Friday.

Definately a good move considering fixtures.

Stoke have shown they are nothing like the defensive wall we thought they were + Aguero is always a risk....he can do double figures in a gameweek, but can easily disappear for the next 5!!

      Ba is consistent.

What the hell is happening to Chelsea?! Im about to knee jerk and get rid of Mata -> Bale. But Nani has been atrocious for me lately at least Mata has some form ahead of his horrid fixtures.

This week need to get rid of one of these Muppets for Bale and next week upgrade Bendtner for Hernandez.

This would have never happened under Mourinho!!

Thinking about getting him in! OK... form is crap but fixrtues look rosey and he is world class. If VDV isn;'t fit Nani may fit my bill.
