[sbu_large_image] Suspensions

Having savoured the splendours of Spurs’ win over Bolton at first-hand yesterday, the suspension update comes with something of a personal touch this evening.

We’ll start then at my game and with the disciplinary talking point of Saturday’s match ups – Gary Cahill’s red card. The Bolton defender was given his marching orders by referee Stuart Atwell for a foul on Scott Parker after 17 mins that was deemed to be ‘denying a goal-scoring opportunity’. A 1 match ban will result, meaning Bolton will be without both Cahill and last week’s headliner, David Wheater, for the GW15 game hosting Aston Villa.

Most onlookers were in agreement that the decision was extremely harsh (or an ‘absolute disgrace’ as Bolton Chairman Phil Gartside put it), and when viewed in the context of a yellow card for Chelsea’s David Luiz four minutes into the Saturday lunchtime game for a much more clear cut ‘professional foul’, they may have a point.

In the other games, we saw another red card, this time for Swansea’s Joe Allen who picked up a first yellow for throwing the ball away and followed it with a second late on at Ewood park for a push on Junior Hoilett, to earn himself an early bath and a ban for GW15 (FUL).

Joining him as new entries to the ban list are the aforementioned David Luiz – that yellow card his fifth of the season, meaning he will miss next week’s Monday Night Football against the league leaders (mci) – and perennial offender, Lee Cattermole. The Sunderland midfielder also picked up his fifth booking in this afternoon’s live game, with his ban to be served against Blackburn.

As well as the suspensions, there were also a couple of additional inductees to the Suspension Tightrope this week. Arsenal’s Alex Song and Bolton right back Paul Robinson both picked up their fourth yellow cards of the season to join the merry balancing band one yellow card from a ban.

Gameweek 15 Bans

  • Stephen N’Zonzi (Blackburn) – FA Charge (Last of 3 matches)
  • Gary Cahill (Bolton) – 1 Red for a professional foul (1 match)
  • David Wheater (Bolton) – 1 Red for serious foul play (Second of 4 matches)
  • David Luiz (Chelsea) – 5 Yellows (1 match)
  • Lee Cattermole (Sunderland) – 5 Yellows (1 match)
  • Joe Allen (Swansea) – 1 Red for 2 bookings (1 match)

Suspension Tightrope – Four bookings

  • Alex Song (Arsenal)
  • Gabby Agbonlahor (Aston Villa)
  • Stiliyan Petrov (Aston Villa)
  • Paul Robinson (Bolton)
  • Frank Lampard (Chelsea)
  • Brede Hangeland (Fulham)
  • Steve Sidwell (Fulham)
  • Yohan Cabaye (Newcastle)
  • Ryan Shawcross (Stoke)
  • Glenn Whelan (Stoke)

I think there isn't much between them in terms of goals so Ba wil have to win with price. I think they both wll get a hattrick over these fixtures though.

Managers who face the brave/stupid decision of selling Aguero - what about Yaya Toure in order to switch to cheaper extra coverage? Nailed on and I can still City scoring loads.

If you can afford to bring in a couple of players from any of Spurs, Man U, Chelsea, or Newcastle in exchange for Aguero I think Silva is enough City coverage for the next month at least. Fixtures for those teams are too hard to ignore at the moment, and there's a WC after this month anyway to re-assess the City situation and the need to double up again

Ok selection dilemma: Should I play Kompany or Brunt. Maybe the logic says Brunt but he is a Mr. 4 "blanks in a row" Brunt according to me. Kompany on the other hand had excellent points against Liv away

Play Brunt or Mr Burnt as I call him. 2 last chances. Personally, I will never buy the lad again.

Kompany has been a major disapointment. I can't see a cleanie at the bridge.

exactly, he may have had a good haul this week, but he's still not a threat to the overall lead in that league. Guy in my ML got 82 points to my 56, yet he's still 97 behind me, regular 50+ points scoring beats 1 off 80-100+ point hits and 30-40 points regular weeks.

VDV need some time to pick up his form, and bale's price is rising.
u can always change back to VDV maybe 3 or 4 GW later, when he pick up form again.

This weekend maybe. The boards are a dangerous place right now. Far too much kneejerkery in the air with the likes of Jones, Yak, etc, etc.

You're a man calm under pressure. I remember you trying to divert people off the Drenthe and Bendtner bandwagons early on and I reckon you're talking sense again.

            *takes a deep breath*

You're right, I'm going to keep calm and carry on with my uber cheaps. May divulge in one or two expensive ones if affordable, but Simpson, Brown, Naylor and McAuley aren't going anywhere!

              MF equals midfield.

You're right on the Yak. Still not tempted and I refuse to be blinded by Jones' big haul. Evra is too expensive, City aren't keeping CSs. Verm can't score forever, has Mertesacker on one side and faces City after next week. Baines is too expensive.

ok short of Studge, who I'm reluctant to get just yet, I can't see any options other than Welbeck to replace Hernandez (I already have Ba and I have 3 Spurs players so no Ade on the menu)Can't see the point in the Yak he won't deliver another haul like that, Morison and Helgicopter have tough fixtures coming up and Graham is injured (though he is an option but it leaves me with only Jones as United coverage) Anyone any ideas? Have already taken a 4 point hit, but an 8 point hit given the state of my ML won't be all that bad as long as it's for a player who can repay it.

strangely enough, im thinking the same, now young is back and with Hernandez injured they might have rooney playing a bit further forward. cue goals and more goals, they can afford to given the teams they are up against, is it a long shot putting Rooney in now?

i was quite surprised that SAF didn't bring Wellbeck on yesterday when Hernandez got injured. My thinking is that Wellbeck will come in but now that Smalling is back Jones can help out in midfield giving Rooney a bit more freedom.

Two freebies and £800k in the bank but one player now out for the season

    Team is:
    Begovic & Krul
Kompany, Santos, S Taylor, Ward & N Taylor
Silva, VDV, Bale, Drenthe & Pilkington
    RVP, Adebayor & Sturridge

Want to keep the strikers as they are but if I pull the trigger today on VDV to Adam I could bring in Jones for Saylor and have £500k left next week to upgrade Plkington.

If I go the 'safe' route I can bring in a defender for up to £5.6m and save the 2nd transfer for another week but I need someone who will play and provide a decent return this GW due to fixtures.

    Advice and suggestions most welcome

So do people think this week was good or bad for Phil Jones's chances of starting in the long run? On the one hand, he started and scored. On the other hand Smalling started in the right back slot so when the midfield is healthy Jones will have more competition. Also Mr Alex likes to bench people who score goals. Just ask Dimitar.

Too late - I deciced I was going to win this years immediately after getting put out in round one last year by a team that looked like it had been picked by a monkey

Nani Mata VDV SIlva Dyer --- Is that too much invested in midfield? Have been sticking with a budget defense so far but now that the likes of Richards, Verm and Jones are starting to score big should I downgrade one of my mids and if yes then which one should I take out?

Wow, I scored just 10 points today and went from 6000-odd this morning to 3984 overall. Just shows how tight this game is. Still a red arrow though 🙁

      Nice.

Where did the points come from? I am guessing the players have a relatively low ownership?

At the moment GD. I should have got rid several weeks ago and keep thinking about it. I could bring in Mata or Nani in midfield in place of Walters/Sess and get some Adebayor goals, but then I see loads on here bringing him in and think again ?

hmmm, i missed out earlier in the season sticking it out with RVP, It surely cant be too long before he starts scoring again and with Hernandez out I think Fergie will push him further forward but its a lot of money for someone who isn't doing it at the moment. decisions, decisions.

its all guesswork so no-one can say wether or not it will/wont work, nice to see Attila pretty much saying what i'm thinking so i might just go for it. Good luck with that all the same. cue a brace next week 😉

In my league the guy at the top is 34 points ahead of me and I'm in second. Third place is about 60 points behind me.

Me and the guy at the top use FFS. Coincidence?

I don't know I have gone this far. Next gameweek is gonna be the first week for me to play 5 defenders.

    De Gea
    Vidic Vermy NTaylor Brown Simpson
    VDV Silva
    RVP Adebayor Klasnic

    Bench: Vorm Walters Drenthe Dyer

0.0 in bank with 1 FT.
    Suggestion?
I like doubling up on United defense, but De Gea is not starting every game, I am planning to ship him out on next CL fixtures and upgrade Walters/Drenthe/Klasnic. Thoughts?
