We were struggling this week. Crippled by a cold that was verging on deadly man-flu, I made a miracle recovery without the aid of placenta treatment to struggle into the studio to infect/accompany Mark on another podcast.

My ailments were not my only curse; only last weekend my extraordinary run of missing out on penalty saves continued when Tim Krul (no pun intended, but I’ll take it), palmed away Lampard’s effort. Inevitably, I’d left the Dutchman on my bench.

Mark refuses to buy the fact I’ve missed out on a penalty save for five years, diverting the discussion towards the mini-league gap, chatter on Van der Vaart and debate over United’s plight at both ends of the field.

The usual smattering of regulars are all present and semi-correct – if you can understand a word I’m saying, you might just enjoy it all.

I still have VDV..is it still worth switching him to Bale? Or should keep him now that he is fit?

      Not this week at least..

Reckon he will start, but still too much of a concern for 10M when you can have Bale instead

Chelsea have Wigan next week so I don't know about selling Lampard. If you're selling VDV it has to be for Bale imo, not Nani or Young. I wouldn't sell though, he's very likely to start this weekend.

I'd take Nani over Young. He's looked pretty sharp. Is Mata too much a sideways move?

I'm keeping VDV another week. I'm must admit though I'm nervous as hell. Looking at those with Nani, Mata and Bale and wondering if I'm missing boats.

Mark is seriously considering him and with how well things are going for him at the moment, you can't argue! He's also picked him as his heavy hitter and reckons SAF will let Utd play more attacking now Vidic is out.

Im still going for Mata though, maverick that i am.

Not Studge. Can't see him as a big points scorer.

      Morrison's a 1-goal-a-game guy at best.

Ba or Yak can put some big scores on. I'd go for Ba in the long term. Yak is looking great on the knee jerk but Blackburn just lurched from 99% sh!t to 1% champagne. Not enough to persuade me to change.

while we're on this subject, I need a striker to replace Hernandez. I already have Ba and don't want to go above 5.7 for upgrade reasons, I really see no one better than the Yak for that price, Long is also a 1 goal per game guy.

What with Blackburn scoring the most goals outside the top 5, it's hard to see past the Yak. However, I do like Morison, Helguson and Graham (when he's back fit) as well. Morison's consistent and is the focal point of a team who play attacking football, Helguson's ridiculously good at heading and Graham's a great finisher. I suppose it depends what you can do with the extra 0.5-0.9m you get from not getting Yakubu.

I wouldn't get rid at the moment. I think he is starting to score again and be a bit better. Chelsea has a weak defence anyways so would keep him for this week, see how he does then base it on that! Depends do you want to use the money to upgrade elsewhere? And also depends on Ade's upcoming performances when VDV comes into the team more often. There is a correlation between the fact that when they both play only one of them does well really.

If Ade scores well this weekend I might jump on it. Price difference + money in hand would allow a great midfield upgrade. Am in no rush but dont want to hold on to Aguero for too long if the right move is to sell.

I had roughly 4.3 to spend to afford Rooney, and wasn't particularly inspired by any of the other options. To be fair, if it weren't for two outrageous Krul saves and a scandalous penalty, he could have had two assists and a clean sheet in the Newcastle, and if he hadn't got injured (I know, I know it's Fabio, he ALWAYS gets injured!) then I still think he'd have been a decent bet for some minutes over Christmas.

How long is Santos injured for? Not tempted to get rid for a United/Liverpool defender, and then you don't have to play Kompany this week.

Team looks very solid, although I'm not sold on Ben Arfa.

Downgrade Santos and upgrade a defender!

Considering you have 2 cheap-ish strikers your midfield is slightly poorer than it could be.

I have RVP, Ba Adebayor and my midfield will be Nani, VDV, Silva, Walters.

Granted that is after a 8 point hit this week 🙂

Hello folks, My team value on front page is £108•9, actual plus banked, which I'm happy about as should give me an exciting 2nd half of season. However, if I remove all players from transfer page then team value is £104.7. Whats a more indicative guide of the value? Which is moe important?

108.9 is the current price of your players (i.e. the price for someone who wants to buy them now), but you only make 50% profit from any price rises since you bought them, so you sell for 104.7. Hope that makes sense! 🙂

Am assuming that is the difference between price to buy and price to sell? Note how the data view gives two different prices. Will be happy to take some of the spare cash regardless...

sure i'm not alone here looking to ditch a man city attacking player but then feeling a bit worried having no man city attacking coverage if i do. anyone who has the same dilemma is surely already aware of gw17 (stoke at home). ..
step up adam johnson for 1 week cover to stop you feeling completely naked that week without having to tamper with your forward line. 3 days before man city play arsenal, surely one to play all their big guns in, so then 3 days later home to stoke you'd fancy some rotation, the big guns like silva and aguero even at risk. seeing as milner has all the glamour of a brick and nasri has now become a regular once again (therefore making him a rotation doubt too after arsenal) adam johnson could be your man city underpants for the gameweek to cover up that nakedness.

I'd just as soon keep Kompany.. From what I've seen of Luiz in the PL he's a cheat and a rotation risk. Some offensive capabilities and plays D on a traditionally cleansheet team.

Kompany is all of those things minus consistent yellows and rotation risk.

Yeah he's actually ranked #1 on UCL FF for defenders. I think he's changed his style in the last CL match to be more disciplined and stay back, ie. actually defend. Cole Terry Luiz Ivanovic? Could work... ironically he might not get forward anymore as wildly as you might want.

Does anyone else have a huge difference in quality between defense and offense?
RTaylor Simpson Ward Wilko (and some Blackburn guy I can never recall and who rarely plays)
    Bale Silva VDV Rodwell Dyer
    RVP Rooney Sturridge

I could do Rooney and a defender for Yakubu and Vermaelen, or an 8 pt hit for Rooney plus two defenders for Yakubu, Jones, Vermaelen. When you look at the ppg, I would pick up eight points alone on defense if averages held. Yakubu and Rooney are a wash, but an eight pt hit seems huge.

    Nani vs Mata.

Nani has scored approx 1 point every 14.7 minutes he's played this season compared to Mata at 1 point every 13.43.

Pretty close, and Nani hasn't been doing bad considering if you asked anyone who was playing better this season it would be Mata by a mile.

So even playing "badly" Nani has been doing ok points wise, joint third highest scoring midfielder and he "only" got 7 points in the 8-2 win over Arsenal (not sure if that's a good or bad thing).

Nani looked threatening against Basel, and should have had at least an assist, but then Mata looked extremely good against Villareal.

I think I'm going to end up going with the better fixtures and head in the direction of Manchester, and hope that the fact Luis has picked up points and not played great will equal even bigger points with a nice run of fixtures.

Is Nani nailed on though? Because Mata definitely is.

Nope, always a threat of rotation with him. He has played 90 minutes in the last 4 games though and was the only attacking player capable of passing, dribbling and crossing yesterday so hopefully Sir Al, noticed that.

What is the chance (in percentage) of P Jones starting againts Wolves this weekend? Will SAF let him play 3 games in one week?

Following Man United and Man City's exit from the Champions League, all Premier League games over the weekend will observe 1 minute of laughter.

Like the looks of it, though I'm not sure about Simps I don't see much better for Wilko, esp as you have Bale and VdV. Very similar to mine.
