A strong set of upcoming fixtures for Newcastle sees Demba Ba elevated in our recently updated Watchlist rankings. With a single point in their last three matches, Alan Pardew’s side will be looking for a return to winning ways, having previously remained unbeaten in the first eleven gameweeks of the season.

The Senegal hitman struggled to make an initial impact at St James’ Park and, with just a single assist in the first five gameweeks, dropped from 6.5 to 6.1 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL). This lack of form, as Pardew later admitted, was down to religious beliefs; Ba, a devout Muslim, fasted during Ramadan and looked anything but the barnstorming striker he has subsequently proved to be.

A hat-trick against Blackburn in gameweek six started a run of games that has seen Ba score or assist in all but two of his last nine appearances and demonstrated one of the most impressive levels of Fantasy consistency so far this season. A total of 9 goals leaves him fourth joint–top scorer alongside the likes of Wayne Rooney and a return of 12 bonus points has been bettered only by Robin Van Persie, Rafael Van der Vaart and Emmanuel Adebayor.

With 3 assists also added to the mix, Ba currently sits on 80 FPL points – in terms of “value” for the season, he’s top of the rankings for any outfield player so far and his average of 6.2 points per game is the same as David Silva. Priced now at 7.0, Ba still looks an absolute steal.

Next up is a run of games (nor, SWA, WBA, bol) that looks hugely promising for Newcastle. While the back-four has been decimated with injuries over the last few days, Pardew may have no alternative but to attack more, if solidity at the back is less assured. Those four fixtures offer plenty optimism before things stiffen up in gameweek 19, with a trip to Liverpool followed by a home clash against Man United.

Ba is, of course, participating in this season’s African Cup of Nations and will be unavailable over some, if not all of January dependant on Senegal’s results, but will be looking to plunder the points before he heads off, starting at Carrow Road this Saturday.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Need opinions on which is the best option please 🙂

    a) Bendtner -> Yakubu

    b) Bendtner -> Welbeck

    c) Bendtner -> Ba & VDV -> Bale (4pt hit, 2nd move required for funds)

    d) Bendtner -> Ba Howard -> Krul (4 pt hit)

Have 0.4 in the bank so not enough to do Bendtner -> Ba straight.. Simple vote please 🙂

i wouldn't bother, united will almost certainly not keep a clean sheet without vidic in their lineup.

if they dont keep a cleanie, then the 4pts you would've spent bringing him will be gone, and you'll just make a loss.

Plus Evans in united's back four is a liability, and cleanie almost certainly not guaranteed.

To be honest I think that the knowledge of the game will get you so far and then there are other factors eg getting off to a good start. I always start terribly and end up having to play catch up. I think Jon Rees who won it the year you came 51st had an awful time of it last year-I suppose once you've won there's less incentive?

Seriously people, getting rid of Silva - what do we think? Absolute madness?

Fixtures over Christmas aren't brilliant, and City will inevitably rotate (more so than any other club, you'd have thought so) especially in the easier games. Is he really that essential at 10.5?

I got rid for Bale in GW10 and he's gotten me about 30 points more than Silva would have since then. Silva is consistent but sometimes you have to take punts on players who are in form and playing good fixtures.

Firstly I got Bale in GW10 before he hit form and before their really good fixtures. So if I wanted to call it a punt I could, but I never even said that. I said that the original poster should take a punt on some in form players, as Silva is consistent but an in form player with easy fixtures could get you a bag of points. I don't see how you could misinterpret that.
                  And thanks johnd 🙂

I would say there are a number of factors to consider. I would hold on, especially if you bought him for 9.5. And if you bought him at 9.5, anyone bringing him now will pay a full million more. This giving you an advantage as it reduces the buying power of your competition. I'm sure he will be outscored by other Mids throughout the various game weeks but I would imagine he will end up in the top 5 at the end of the season. And, of course, it depends on your mini-league situation, if you care about that sort of thing. OK, my two cents, or pence, whatever.

Looking forward - am considering selling Aguero. Is a move to Ade wise. Have 1.3M in bank so the extra money from trade would allow a serious upgrade in mid.

My best guess for the City game team line-up would be:

    _________________Hart
Richards (Savic if not fit) Kompany Lescott Clichy- surely Kolarov wont play
___________Y.Toure Barry (Is De.Jong injured?, if available, I think he'll play instead)
    Silva ____________Aguero_____________Milner/Nasri
    ______________Dzeko/Balotelli (too hard to call)
    ...for them (obvs)

    and for us:

    __________Cech
Bosingwa(if fit, if not, we're in a bit of trouble) Ivanovic Terry Cole
    __Ramires Romeu Lampard/Malouda/Meireles
    Sturridge____Drogba______Mata

I'm interested in getting opinions, not trying to convince people this is what it will be, and and injury news would be appreciated.

From now until the end of the season? No idea. But I think yes for the next few games, if he doesn't, he still has the potential to come on and score a few/assist a few. He's favourite to start against City imo, and should get quite a few points against Wigan the week after regardless of game time- unless its zero. 😉

RMT , and suggest a transfer , and maybe change bench players........3 things im not greedy

    Vorm (ruddy)

Walker , Jones , Mcauley (naylor , Jagelka)

vdv , bale , young , silva (ben arfa)

    RVP , sturridge , bendtner

Zero in zee bank , thinking of going jag to Evans .....and benching mcauley

Leaving funds for a bendy to bar upgrade next week

I could (should I ) do them both for a 4pts hit as Bendy has broken groin .
or should I wait tell nweek as have team to play without said hit

    opinions critique welcome

young is a very brave choice in your midfield, personally think nani looked amazing last night. food for thought?

jagielka to evans sounds good (he is a rubbish defender though) but if it means freeing up funds for bar then do it over the next two weeks.

I've decided to stick and save the transfer.

    Team for GW15:

    Vorm (Krul)
    Jones Brown Simpson
    Walters(v) Silva Bale Dyer
    RVP(c) Sturridge Adebayor

    Subs: Drenthe Kompany Ward
    (Bank 5.0)

I don't see any transfers which I feel are worth it - keeping Drenthe who will hopefully back for the v.nice GW16-17 games + DGW; the 2 keepers are good, so too the front 3. The only thing left to improve is the defence, which can wait until next week, where Jagielka will probs come in.

With Owen, Berbatov and Hernandez all out, and Rooney in poor form- so unlikely to lead the line alone, and Young also in poor form, so unlikely to play off Rooney, and Nani looking most threatening on the right- so again, unlikely to sit behind Rooney, I think Welbeck is their main central attacking threat and option, he did look good when he came on against Basel. Surely he'll get starts.

Rooney - woeful at the last world cup, Capable of brilliance but rarely shows that he gives a shit for his country, at best can be described as blowing hot and cold over the past two years, well out of form. Performances look better without him and our record is better without him (iirc).

Why is it such a boost that he is fit? False idol if ever there was one, seems like we put him on this pedestal despite him continually failing to justify it. I'd much rather see us work as a team without him there to be honest. When he's in it just seems to be the Wayne Rooney disappointment show.

Not numerically, or mathematically, or technically, or literally, but significantly, this time next week, I believe we will be one third of the way through the season. Based on statistical and formulaic analysis of this and previous seasons, coupled with accurate and dependable predictions of the relevant contributing variables, I am convinced Chelsea will win the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League. It's just silly to assume anything else.

You could transfer out Bale this week, which would allow you to bring Bale in next week.

I'm sticking with Drenthe and see if makes the bench vs Arsenal.

Great video! Great side that was, what was the reason Robben left again? Slipped my mind. Crap song on top of it all of course.

    1) Vermaelen and Drenthe
    2) BAE and Larson
    3) Jagielka and Lennon

    Thank you

Don't like any of those options. Like Verm, not Drenthe. Not too sold on either BAE or Larson. Like Jags not Lennon.

How much promise can there be in a player who does not play. One good performance this year, riddled by injury throughout his career and playing for a manager who juggles his midfield. There are better fpl players for less than his 6M cost.
