[sbu_large_image] Suspensions

With all the matches kicking off at 3pm on Saturday, the scene was set for a chaotic day keeping track of disciplinary matters. However, with just a couple offences resulting in suspension, it was a relatively quiet affair.

The first indiscretion arrived via a crimson flash amongst all the Norfolk goals, as Newcastle’s Dan Gosling was penalised with a straight red for an over the top challenge on Norwich’s Russell Martin during the 4-2 loss at Carrow Road. With Chiek Tiote and Danny Guthrie on the treatment table, the three-match ban for Gosling means Alan Pardew will be running out of partners for his French maestro, Yohan Cabaye, and the lack of shielding options for the now makeshift defence could augur further doom for the Toon Army despite their encouraging fixtures (SWA, WBA, bol). It’s also worth noting that Cabaye himself, is just a single yellow away from a ban.

The other man to get a mention in these dispatches is Aston Villa reborn striker, Gabriel Agbonlahor. With his new lease of life on the pitch has also come a newfound fondness for yellow cards. His career stats list just four picked up in 31 domestic appearances last year, and an overall rate of one every ten games since his 2005 debut. However, his fifth this season has come in just 15 league games and will therefore see him fall off the Suspension Tightrope and into a 1 match ban for the visit of Liverpool next Sunday.

Gamweek 16 Bans

  • Gabriel Agbonlahor (Aston Villa) – 5 Yellows (1 match)
  • David Wheater (Bolton) – 1 Red for serious foul play (Third of 4 matches)
  • Jay Spearing (Liverpool) – 1 Red for serious foul play (Second of 3 matches)
  • Dan Gosling (Newcastle) – 1 Red for serious foul play (First of 3 matches)

Suspension Tightrope – Four Bookings

  • Alex Song (Arsenal)
  • Stiliyan Petrov (Aston Villa)
  • Paul Robinson (Bolton)
  • Frank Lampard (Chelsea)
  • Moussa Dembélé (Fulham)
  • Brede Hangeland (Fulham)
  • Steve Sidwell (Fulham)
  • Yohan Cabaye (Newcastle)
  • Ryan Shawcross (Stoke)
  • Glenn Whelan (Stoke)

    Any Given/Vorm owners out there?

With Given red flagged will prbably continue to drop in price - think I may transfer him out this week.

Tempted by Krul, but newcastle defence looking weak with their CB injuries.

Hennessey has good rotation with vorm up until Jan WC.

    Any other options people considering?

      RVP - 2x2 = 4
      Nani - 3
      Vorm - 1
Enrique/Vermaelen outsiders for 1 as 1-0 games are tough to call, but I doubt it.

Total fpl has rvp down for none. Song to get the 3, it says. As a RVP captainer that worries me. Hope they are wrong.

If RVP gets no bonus for scoring the winning goal and a peach of a goal at that then the bonus system is screwed - but I guess we know that anyway.

RVP may get 1/2 but nobody knows
Nani should get 3, but Rooney may beat him to it..
Keepers barely get 3 baps, but with 6 saves and a penalty save it is possible
Who knows with Vermaelen and Jones..

Why bother with Rooney? For 11.9 I just don't get it, especially seeing as Ba outscored him and is 5 mill cheaper..
Long got an assist - hardly would have been a mistake considering you only have 10 men playing, with the one coming off the bench with a 0 😕

I'm risking playing Baines, Jones and Evans at the back from next week. I know Man U won't be as solid without Vidic but reckon they should get some clean sheets out of their easy run of fixtures.

Evans will start most matches I think.

Had a great week. 72 with Bale, sess, silva, walters to play.
Took a punt on silva captain last week instead of rvp. Thats where the difference lied last time. This time captained nani and hasnt it been good!

Any ideas about bonuses? I think:
    Rvp - 3
    Nani - 2x3 = 6
    Vorm - 2
    Ba - 1
Naylor, vermalen - maybe 1 for either of them.

    Over optimistic?

I know. Their fixtures get easier up to Spurs, they were beaten by a fantastic goal by RVP and won't come up against that quality every week. I still think Everton defenders are a worthy investment and crosses to Cahill look there best chance of a goal from open play. They will score again soon and Baines highly likely to be involved.

I'm keeping till GWK 21 at the earliest.

I know the stats and admit they are poor. Ask yourself this they play NOR SWA sun wba before the double gameweek. Do you honestly think they won't score in those fixtures? If you've watched them play Baines is involved in almost every good attacking move.

I do watch them play. I watched them yesterday also.
I saw that he could barely challenge our defence missing our 1st and 2nd choice RB.
But to be fair, those fixtures are mighty fine!

I listed to the game on radio, and both comms said he had a great game. Obviously it's odd with both Roo and Nani scoring twice, but it's not like he had a shocker and got it... MOTD also raved about him.

Yup. I seem to recall him scoring all his points at home and being quite a reliable captain choice. I am thinking of Mata instead as he seems more consistent point scorer. I don't like weeks without points as I always seem to miss the good weeks when I transfer them out

Yeah - Nani seems like one you'd have to stick through the dry spells to get the rewards, all about timing for getting him in/out.

We will be asking for clarification from the FA on that very matter (and the similar incident with Clint Hill in GW1). As with Hill, Gosling doesn't have any other cards to speak of so not going to affect fantasy plans anytime soon, but definitely one I'm aiming to sort out for completeness.

There are multiple conflicting precedents, so instead of trying to guess, we're going to the men that make the rules instead.

I'm a similar distance away from my mini-league leader. Not even half the season has gone yet mate, and a few right captains and all of a sudden you'll be right on his tail or in the lead. 100 points at this stage is too much, but 50 considering we've still got over half of the season left, is EASILY do-able.

100 is absolutely nothing with 25 and a bit gameweeks left.

I wouldn't be worried in any way by a 100 point deficit.

100 points is nowhere near too much at this stage... a friend a couple of seasons back overhauled a 100 points defecit at Easter (mid April) to win our mini-league. I'd say 400 points by this stage is game over unless you got freakishly lucky with maveric captain choices.

150 is easily catchable at this point. correct choices of captains can make you catch up 40-50 a week not to mention double gameweeks where you can cross the 100pt barrier
