The third round of the Paddy Power Cup V saw 256 fantasy managers go head-to-head over the course of Gameweek 15. The results of which are in, and can be viewed right here. Read on for a round-up of how some of the ties of note played out…

Another round and another former champ exits the competition. This time it’s FFS Cup II winner, Jonty, who has been eliminated after a crushing 68 – 59 defeat at the hands of 66irons. That leaves Ninja_fit_saints alone in the hunt to achieve the unprecedented – a second tournament win.

Chief Scout Mark also casts a lonely figure as the only remaining contributor; he powers on into the fourth round after a 70 – 41 demolition of domo. Intimidating stuff.

This week’s top-scorer was Cabaroota Beach queens, who tonked rakkhi 93 – 67. In the fourth round, he’ll be hoping to avoid the same fate that met the two previous top-scorers, both of which were knocked out the very next round. Round two top-scorer, elfortu, was battered 84 – 49 by a rampant EasyLuckyFree.

Also bowing out this week is bobbyg who, even now, is the highest ranked fantasy manager involved in the third round. He lost a nail-biter 63 – 62 to Lestat, but only slips two places overall to 52nd in the world.

Having wiped the floor 82 – 66 with theotherguy, hootneil now stands as the highest ranked competitor, only two behind bobbyg in 54th.

Four matches ended level, which meant that overall ranking had to be looked at to find a winner. Their previous 14 week’s work put Brosna Stars, evertonalstars, The Yassasinators and MaRkEsTuTe through at the expense of meltedman, evers, rocket science and jils respectively.

Congratulations to the 128 in the hat for the fourth round (the draw for which will be made on Thursday), and commiserations to everyone else.

I am through to the next round! Good news.
    Help me our here please;

    Vorm/Given
    BAE Jones Richards Shawx Simpson
    Larsson Bale Dyer Silva Brunt
    RVP Rooney Yakubu

I have 1.1M in the bank and 2 FT.
I am considering for a 4 point hit doing
    Given> Cerny
    Larsson> Mata
    Shawcross> Caulker
Are these good moves? If not, I will be pleased to hear any other viable suggestions.

The only way I can get Mata is by transferring out Larsson but I plan to get him back after downgrading Yakubu to Graham/Morrison after the next 2 GW's.

I've just put Mata in, if you plan on doing so act today as his value is likely to rise.

Yeah that is right, this involves a 6 player swing and if anyone of them rises or falls then my plan to get Mata will be doomed.

If I do that I will 0.1M short, it has to be a 3.9M defender and Caulker is back for Swansea and he was their main defender before he got injured

There's confirmation in the article below that, according to FIFA regulations, participating nations can call on players to report for duty up to 14 days before the start of a major tournament. As the 2012 African Cup of Nations starts on 21 January, this means that participating countries would be within their rights to summon players such as Demba Ba and Yaya Touré prior to the FA Cup third round ties on January 7/8.

Yaya Touré, however, looks likely to delay his departure to the Africa Cup of Nations until after the derby with Man Utd and the Carling Cup semi-final first-leg at home to Liverpool three days later.

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/manchester-city/8954737/Yaya-Toure-to-boost-Manchester-Citys-trophy-hopes-by-delaying-Africa-Cup-of-Nations-departure.html

After two cracking weeks of 87 and 71 and I'm up to 34k overall very pleasing! 🙂 Very happy with the team for xmas as thus apart from Ramsey, two transfers this week, don't really rate any other cheap mids... :-

    Schwarzer/Vorm

    Kompany Enrique Shawcross (Simpson Naylor)

Bale Silva Ramsey Sinclair (Reo Hokey Cokey)

    Sturridge RVP Rooney

    bank empty!

So is Ramsey + Enrique > Holy One + Verminator utter madness???!!! Surely more points in the Verm than Ramsey at the minue, and Enrique doesn't seem to be setting the world alight...though Holy ones fixtures are grim I admit.

    Thoughts?

also, if u want to follow ur plan, i sggest u take out kompany instead of enrique.
really don't trust city getting CS. enrique is more reliable

I've never understood that urban legend about not picking players against each other. Ba and Vorm don't both know they're in this gentleman's fantasy team.

It just means their points hauls rely on each other's performance. Ba getting a goal would mean Vorm couldn't get a cleanie and vice versa. If you have attackers and defenders from teams not playing each other, your attackers can score and your defenders can keep clean sheets. It makes sense really.

Then again you may have one or zero gameweeks in a season where all your defenders keep clean sheets & all your attacking players score attacking points.

Therefore, if you have quality defenders and quality attackers, I have no problem playing them against each other. Maybe even one of them will perform and you don't hate yourself for benching the wrong one. Even both might do well, e.g., Vorm to save a penalty + Ba brace.

Hey guys I really need you help!

    I'm considering the following:

    VDV > Bale
    Sess > Mata
Kenny > Cerny (or maybe Ruddy if I have the extra 0.1m, or even Hilario/Moriera if I'm desperate for the extra 0.1m by the time I come to make the transfer)

I have 2 freebies and enough money in the bank to do these for a hit this week. If I leave it another week and Mata/Bale go up or VDV/Sess go down.

Chelsea's fixtures are also a hell of a lot better than Sess's (including this week!) but is it worth a 4 point hit for these transfers? I see VDV and Bale scoring similarly over the next few weeks and Mata outscoring Sess, but I need talking into/out if it!

Someone below said they would do it (after admitting they had takes a 12 point hit to do VDV & Sess > Mata & Nani!!!)

An alternative would be to do VDV > Bale & Graham > Ba/Sturridge without a hit but it just doesn't look as exciting...

I'm even tempted to do a W/C, downgrade at the back and bring both Sturridgeand Nani in!

          Would leave me with

Silva Bale Nani O'Hara (Moses never thought I'd consider getting him in again lol)

thinking i'm gonna save my transfer for next week cause of the weather, and just make one boring change at a time a week on saturday mornings without doin whole sale surgery.. wanted nani in but too risky making transfers before he rises.. that too take a hit for it.. feel the best differential right now is too play with the weather.. team is
    Vorm
    Baines(c) Jones Enrique
    Silva Bale Mata Sessegnon
    RVP Adebayor Sturridge

    Subs- Caulker McAuley Pilkington

It's wednesday, the forecast isn't that bad. There isn't 6 inches of snow like there was last year. Completely ridiculous watching people panic about it. Don't make any early transfers in December and get on with it.

    Vorm - Westwood

    BAE - Baines - Caulker - Jones - Simpson

    Silva - Walters - Bale - O'Hara - Allen

    RvP - Ba - Abebayor

1.8m in the bank. Is getting rid of Baines the only way? I'm sure the little scouser will score big

    silva/nani/bale/sess/cabaye
    rvp/adebayor/yakubu

got a feeling about cabaye's upcoming form (even allowing for 1 match ban). same kind of feeling i had about yakubu before bringing him in for GW14. as for young, with jags a perpetual starter over the next 5 GWs or so, and vermaelen the same barring city this weekend, having a QPR defender (and one who can chip in with goals/assists) gives me at least 3 defenders with favorable/home fixtures each week until the 2nd WC comes around.

and ward/young/jags/verm all bring attacking points potential.

that's the why from a strategic POV. i also face a pretty cushy H2H match this week, so could afford the -4.
