Micah Richards is on course for a return against Arsenal this weekend. The Toure brothers are to delay their departure for the African Cup of Nations. Damian Duff returns for Fulham in tonightโ€™s Europa League game with Odense, while Mike Williamson hands Alan Pardew a fitness boost by returning to reserve action yesterday.

Reports suggest Micah Richards is set to be fit for Man Cityโ€™s clash with Arsenal on Sunday. The right-back missed out at Chelsea in his sideโ€™s first loss of the campaign but Roberto Mancini is confident he will be ready for the weekend. With Aleksandar Kolarov injured and Gael Clichy suspended, Mancini hinted Richardsโ€™ return would allow him to play Pablo Zabaleta in the left-back position against the Gunners.

Mancini also received a boost ahead of next monthโ€™s African Cup of Nations. The Italian is a former team mate of Ivory Coast manager Francois Zahoui and their relationship has reportedly allowed him to delay the departure of Yaya and Kolo Toure for vital cup clashes. The tournament starts on January 21 and participants can call up their players a fortnight before the kick-off but City are expected to be allowed to hold on to the pair for their FA Cup clash with Man United on the 8th, as well as the first-leg of their Carling Cup semi final against Liverpool three days later.

Fabian Delph has returned to Aston Villa training ahead of the home clash with Liverpool. The midfielder missed Saturdayโ€™s win at Bolton with a knee knock but assistant boss Peter Grant expects him to be available for selection this weekend, as the fixtures start to pick up pace.

Gael Givet is set to give the Blackburn back line a boost by returning to action this weekend. The left-back was subbed off at Sunderland due to heart palpitations but has trained ahead of Saturdayโ€™s Ewood Park clash with West Brom.

Yesterdayโ€™s news that Darren Fletcher is expected to miss the remainder of the season with a bowel condition looks set to further boost the game time of Phil Jones. With Nemanja Vidic also ruled out for the season, the Scotsmanโ€™s unfortunate illness also leaves a gap in the championsโ€™ central midfield. Jonesโ€™ versatility has seen him play in central midfield of late and with the ability to shift to right-back or centre-half also in his locker, Jones seems to be an integral part of the United first-team over the ensuing months.

Mike Williamson came through 45 minutes of Newcastleโ€™s reserve clash with Bolton yesterday as he steps up his recovery from an ankle injury. Alan Pardew fielded a back-four without any recognised centre-halves at Norwich but Williamsonโ€™s recovery, in addition to the possibility of Fabricio Colocciniโ€™s return for the weekend game at home to Swansea, will be a welcome boost over the festive period.

Damian Duff has recovered from a calf problem in time for Fulhamโ€™s Europa League game with Odense this evening. Danny Murphy continues to miss out due to an ankle injury and Mark Schwarzer is expected to shrug off a spine problem to take his place between the sticks.

Been rooting around in stats and chalkboards to decide who is the best signing between Formica, Gamst Pedersen and Vukcevic. Still not sure, they all have decent potential. Leaning towards Formica to save a few bob, but I do love a set piece taker in my side so Pedersen could be the one.

Bah. This is the hardest GW yet to sort my transfers out.

Also thinking of Scott Dann, he did well enough for me last season - and at 4.8 he could be a handy Steve Taylor replacement. Obviously prefer Samba though.

Blackburn are shite, Attila. You'll never get consistency, even for two/three games.

Samba probably is the closest to being consistent.

Don't get a Blackburn mid Attila, they really aren't worth the investment. How much you got to spend? If you have to pick one I would go for Vukcevic, only for the mask aspect though. You could use the catchphrase "SMOKIN'!" a lot too.

Havent much to spend. My safety budget option would be HBA and S.Taylor for Dann and Formica, but my extravagant chancy picks would involve selling Silva to free funds.
        Really not sure.

To be honest there isn't a whole lot of difference between downgrading VDV>Bale and Silva>Yaya. Well not a few weeks ago anyway. Would free up funds nicely, I'm not against the ditching Silva idea, maybe because I don't have him!

Things change. I wouldnt advocate necessarily selling any of them, but why do people insist on limiting themselves with the idea that certain players are indespensible?
For a long stretch this season RVP was owned by less than 8% and Rooney was 'essential' - how quickly that changed! Football presents an ever changing scenario, all you can do is react to the information to hand to give yourself the best possibility of succeeding.
If you limit your options to evolve and adapt you will go extinct. Just ask homo-erectus, he was shit at fantasy football.

Oh I know what you're saying in this particular context. Personally I own all three, I am considering Silva, not that I suddenly believe that Silva is a poor choice, but because looking at the forthcoming fixtures and the needs of my squad I need to raise funds. Out of the players I can potentially raise funds from - Rooney, RVP, Adebayor, Silva, Baines, Vermaelen - I think Silva has the potential to
          a) Score less points until I play my January wildcard
          b) Be rotated more until I play my January wildcard

I have an idea that it could be worth picking key players from weaker teams for the busy Christmas schedule as they are far less likely to be rested and rotated.

Silva has been in my team from the start, hes a cracking player both in terms of FPL and real life football, but I am close to making the judgement call that its better to sacrifice him and have a much stronger team than risk pinning all my hopes on him.

Silva is the only Q for me out of that lot, but I'm not sure where I would use the funds and as I see it the best value is in the forwards anyway, so I'd rather have a couple cheaper forwards then cheaper mids...

              Which of the forwards -

              RVP - Wonderful form
Rooney - Think he will do well given Hernandez's injury and Man Utd's upcoming fixtures
Adebayor - Playing well and a double gameweek on the horizon

If I could swap a midfield slot for a striker slot to get in Ba then I would do it. But I can't.

Yeah, I definitely understand that, although personally I'd downgrade Baines I know why you wouldn't..
I know what you're saying with the weaker teams, but I am not considering it until after GW18/19 as the big hitters have some cracking fixtures
            Arsenal - WOL/QPR
            Chelsea - FUL/AVL
            Man City - wba/sun
            United - WIG/BLA
            Spurs - nor/swa
Could be some huge scores there even with the odd rotation.

Thing is Silva might get less gametime, but will most probably get more points than the so called "key players from weaker teams" over the next 5 gameweeks anyway.

If I dont I cant get anyone worth getting to replace S.Taylor, Wilkinson, Ben Arfa, possibly Drenthe.

So its akin to sacrificing at least three players for the sake of Silva. In so much that the replacements will be of equal or lesser value and I really cant see many players worth having in that price zone.

Exactly, Nani is explosive, but inconsistent, Mata has shown good scores lately but will be a few weeks before he proves his consistency, Bale, well who knows, if he keeps his form up i'd rather him to Silva actually, and VDV - we all know the cons of VDV..
Silva has been rotated twice this season, both 3 days before CL game, so it isn't like he is a massive sufferer of Mancini's rotation.

Sure I don't think Nani, Mata, VDV etc are a million times better than Silva. Silva is probably the best out of all those options BUT if losing Silva means turning two crap 4m defenders into Jones, Enrique, Verm, Terry, Baines etc you should at least consider it.

Saying that, I am reluctant to go Brown > Evans as I think I will see a few clean sheets for N.Taylor and Simpson (with Coloccini and Tiote back) on my bench, thats why I prefer to rotate the final defender spot.

They are fixture proof, and a decent fixture for others is a good fixture for City (in attacking terms) in my opinion.
Considering I have Bale, Nani, Mata in the midfield along with him, I don't see the point selling as I don't find any replacements worthy of replacing the great Spaniard ๐Ÿ™‚

Silva is going nowhere as far as my team is concerned. Ive made the mistake in the past of buying in and sellng out too often and always missing the individual big points hauls.

Sometimes you just know that a player is gonna be good for the season, accept the odd 2 point week just to ensure you always catch the big one.

      Cracking discussion people.

I'd never even really considered selling Silva, but after reading through all the comments, I think I'd be more inclined to sell Silva to get Mata/Nani in now than VDV.

Totally nothing to do with the fact that he got 2 points, just that I'm now looking at it in terms of "Do I think Mata/Nani will get more points than Silva" over the next couple of weeks. If I believe yes, then surely I should make that move rather than keep a player pureply for the sake of it.

Attila's comment about adapting was a very good one - especially in terms of Rooney.

So yeah - definitely given me some food for thought now.

Any Norwich fans or extremely knowledgable football fans able to tell me what is happening with Leon Barnett?

He has played almost every minute of every game this season but only got 8 mins at home to Newcastle last weekend. It seems Zak Whitbread was preferred in this fixture but I have no idea why? Will Barnett get his place back?

I am getting rid of him or Wilkinson (or both ๐Ÿ˜ฏ ) this week and I'm wondering which is least likely to get game time over the coming weeks? Barnett is pretty useless as Norwich never keep cleanies but Wilko would be even more useless if he isn't going to play at all.

Why Wilko? He's nailed-on if fit IMO. Even Stoke fans agree. Woody is a make-shift arrangement.

Kind of hoping for a VDV injury tbh, I want rid but don't have the baws to do so before S'land at home. Yeah I'll probably jettison Dyer this week if no injuries arise. I want rid of Brunt too, but I love his set piece whorage so much, even though he's done bugger all for weeks.

that defence is as cheap as a market stall perfume at xmas,
cant see why u need WC to make changes, looks like u r trying to get in bale and ade so swapped expensive defence. Mata always seems to have 2nd last pass so not sure if worth it, would maybe take hit and swap jones or richards to get cash then bring in Bale or Ade that way and repeat following week. So the news regarding Yaya going to the ACON a bit later, makes no difference to FPL, if I'm reading it right.

It'll just mean he'll be playing 2 cup games (United and Liverpool) after the league game at home to Liverpool. So the Liverpool league game is still going to be the last game he plays and will still miss the Wigan(a) match.

Wilkinson > Evans. Injury aside, I'm not sure how much gametime Wilko will get after his poor performances. For just that little bit extra you have a better chance of a starter at MUN with Vidic out and CS points possible both home and away.

Yeah even Jonathan frigging Woodgate is making them look more solid at the back. Losing 3-1 to Newcastle and 5-0 to Bolton was almost unprecedented in capitulation, take a bow Andy!

keep vorm saddled till WC week, not worth wasting FT for 1 or 2 fixtures u might use other goalie. And if you do Schwarzer isnt the one.
out of those three think wilkinson is option, prob smalling. Though for me ur team needs one more top midfielder

      Nice team.

Although I would lose Brown for Evans.

Not sure about Begovic seeing as Sorensen has been playing so keep an eye on that.

Dyer hasn't been playing as much lately so Allen instead for the same price.

And I personally don't like Eagles so I would go Pilkington, O'Hara or Jarvis.

I'm still not convinced about Swansea away from home though. They still haven't managed to break the hoodoo on the road and that will play on the players minds. Vorm at home and maybe Sorensen or Begovic once that becomes a bit clearer or even Westwood for Sunderland home games once O'Neil teaches them how to defend properly.

Would appreciate it lots if someone could RMT. I'm thinking now is the time I need to bring some United coverage into my team. Drenthe and Wilkinson are both injured, so maybe it's wise to sacrifice one of the, or both? Or should I sacrifice someone else?

My team at the moment is:

    Vorm, Krul
    Wilkinson, Ward, Enrique, Simpson, Brown
    VDV, Ramsey, Silva, Walters, Drenthe
    Ba, RVP, Adebayor

I have one free transfer and 1.1 in the bank. Thank you in advance for any replies!

Strike force is spot on and your keepers are ideal.

I would get your best 11 together for this GW and save your transfer for next week. The 2 free transfers will give you more room to manoeuvre.

And 1 more week will let you see if Drenthe is actually gonna play and if not get him right out cos that 6m can be scaled down to Allen or someone similarly cheap. I would also lose Ramsey but not until the defence is sorted. Wilko is cheap and won't be out too long so keep him in and lose Wes Brown and Ward. Look at Shotton, BAE, Evans, Smalling, N.Taylor, Caulker and S.Kelly for cheapness.

Where have the budget options in midfield and defence gone? There are absolutely none that I can see.

There are plenty of budget options up front but you can't fit them all in. It's becoming more and more common but I see people saying they wish they had a 4th striker spot instead of a 5th midfield/defender spot and I have to agree.

I would love to have a frontline of RVP, Ade, Ba (and Sturridge).

Agreed, apart from Newcastle's storming defensive run at the start of the season there's not many options out there. I might take a punt on Evans though.

I think its partly due to the new BP system that strikers are in such hot demand. Last year you would see workhorses such as Adams/Parker rack up a few points which is not happening this year.

    Ok the team is

    Vorm (Ruddy)
    Jones, Kompany, Verm
    Silva (c), DVD, Bale, Brunt
    RVP, Ba, Sturridge
    bench: Dyer, Naylor, Wilko

Thinking of doing a 4 point hit meaning : Brunt and Kompany to Jevans and Nani.

Looks like that Kompany lost form and he is getting yellow cards all the time. My defense can cope without him imo, 2 utd, Vermy and 2 cheapish defenders, I could get and Gabbidon for the rotation next week. Thinking of having the big hitters in GW 18-19 Nani, Silva, DVD, Bale. Will keep DVD for the double if he is shit in the next 2, then mr. Mata comes in.

Should I do it the hit or play Kompany in the next 2? I know Nani has 2 away games but I have only 0.1 in the bank so if I don't do it this week, I won't be able to afford it, unless I spend additional transfer butd those WIG, BLA looks tasty.
