Micah Richards is on course for a return against Arsenal this weekend. The Toure brothers are to delay their departure for the African Cup of Nations. Damian Duff returns for Fulham in tonight’s Europa League game with Odense, while Mike Williamson hands Alan Pardew a fitness boost by returning to reserve action yesterday.

Reports suggest Micah Richards is set to be fit for Man City’s clash with Arsenal on Sunday. The right-back missed out at Chelsea in his side’s first loss of the campaign but Roberto Mancini is confident he will be ready for the weekend. With Aleksandar Kolarov injured and Gael Clichy suspended, Mancini hinted Richards’ return would allow him to play Pablo Zabaleta in the left-back position against the Gunners.

Mancini also received a boost ahead of next month’s African Cup of Nations. The Italian is a former team mate of Ivory Coast manager Francois Zahoui and their relationship has reportedly allowed him to delay the departure of Yaya and Kolo Toure for vital cup clashes. The tournament starts on January 21 and participants can call up their players a fortnight before the kick-off but City are expected to be allowed to hold on to the pair for their FA Cup clash with Man United on the 8th, as well as the first-leg of their Carling Cup semi final against Liverpool three days later.

Fabian Delph has returned to Aston Villa training ahead of the home clash with Liverpool. The midfielder missed Saturday’s win at Bolton with a knee knock but assistant boss Peter Grant expects him to be available for selection this weekend, as the fixtures start to pick up pace.

Gael Givet is set to give the Blackburn back line a boost by returning to action this weekend. The left-back was subbed off at Sunderland due to heart palpitations but has trained ahead of Saturday’s Ewood Park clash with West Brom.

Yesterday’s news that Darren Fletcher is expected to miss the remainder of the season with a bowel condition looks set to further boost the game time of Phil Jones. With Nemanja Vidic also ruled out for the season, the Scotsman’s unfortunate illness also leaves a gap in the champions’ central midfield. Jones’ versatility has seen him play in central midfield of late and with the ability to shift to right-back or centre-half also in his locker, Jones seems to be an integral part of the United first-team over the ensuing months.

Mike Williamson came through 45 minutes of Newcastle’s reserve clash with Bolton yesterday as he steps up his recovery from an ankle injury. Alan Pardew fielded a back-four without any recognised centre-halves at Norwich but Williamson’s recovery, in addition to the possibility of Fabricio Coloccini’s return for the weekend game at home to Swansea, will be a welcome boost over the festive period.

Damian Duff has recovered from a calf problem in time for Fulham’s Europa League game with Odense this evening. Danny Murphy continues to miss out due to an ankle injury and Mark Schwarzer is expected to shrug off a spine problem to take his place between the sticks.

he'll get some game time (according to SAF's plan to utilise the whole squad).

just not sure he's as nailed on as Rodders is at EVE.

Even if Valencia plays half the games of rodwell he will get a better score but then there's the small matter of a dgw on the horizon.

On Rooney by the looks of it. I would take out Rooney for Adebayor and use the cash elsewhere. Your defence could do with some cash as could the Tiote/Allen combo in mid.

Very belated reply to Big Oak: Lukas Podolski would be a poor buy for Arsenal - he's moody, has failed at the only big club he's been at (Bayern) and needs to be the centre of attention. He doesn't really fit Arsenal's way of playing, and doesn't offer anything that Walcott already brings to the table. Wenger would also have to pay way over the odds for him in January (€15m, 100k a week in wages), and I don't think that Arsenal would be willing to do so.

Tomáš Rosický to VfL Wolfsburg, however, is a move that could happen in the January break.

I'd love to see Goetze in the Prem. I suppose he fits the bill of the quintessential Arsenal player i.e. young, talented, attacking midfielder, midget. Just don't now if he's injury prone enough to fit in at that club 😉 . Any club that buys him will have to pay through the nose though.

There's no chance of Mario Götze moving anywhere before Euro 2012. He's currently injured, by the way, with a torn muscle fibre in his thigh, and he won't play for Dortmund again until after the winter break.

What's wrong with captaining Ba and playing Vorm? If anything it means you're nearly guaranteed to get some points, whereas even if Newcastle were at home to Bolton and Swansea were at home to Sunderland you could end up with nothing.

well start by swapping your keepers, especially if you've captained Ba (I'm playing Vorm, but my other keeper is Westwood, so it's rock and hard place for me) other than that looks good.

So its probably been the most talked about topic on here this week, VDV>Nani.
Nani rises again tonight, I have no Chelsea or United attacking coverage.I prefer Mata this week, but Im thinking longer term. I think its safe to say Nani should outscore Mata between now and the free Wildcard. I also have Ade and Bale for Spurs coverage.
Sorry guys Im just thinking aloud, but just wanted to air my situation before I press the button. It would normaly be simple, but Im worried about potential with VDV playing Sunderland at home.
    Anyone see a better trade?
    My Current Team:
    Westwood Vorn
    Simpson Kompany Enrique Jones Evans
    Bale Silva VDV Drenthe Cabaye

If you have transfers in hand you could consider trying to upgrade one of Cabaye or Drenthe to Nani. Tough price just I know but you may have some cash in hand and a downgrade of kompany for example could free up 2M. With that mid you will always be playing 3 at the back anyway

Tough call. I'd hold on to Ade at this pt as you will want to go back to him in a few weeks. Play out this week I think and move to Nani then from vdv if it still looks good to you.

I don't. SUN are not in great form for sure but Spurs back line is struggling, may have to pair Gallas (disappointing this season) with Bassong (just disappointing) at CB, which impies set play potential for SUN attackers. I'd go Larsson over Vermaelen, who's unlikely to get a CS, while goal potential is a long (ish) shot for a Def anyway.

with so many striker choices out there, welbeck is not worth keeping.
but it is a great differential.

some of the choices are: ba, sturridge, even long.

How likely is Gallas to keep on starting? Not sure what the story behind his long absence was and I have 4.8 to spend in defence on a short termer...

Sorry for another 'Who to captain this week?' post but I don't think there's any obvious choice this week.

So, out of this lot :

Bale, Silva, Nani, Rooney, Yakubu and Sturridge. Who would you captain?

Edging towards Rooney at the moment, maybe Bale.

Think I'd go for Sturridge personally. I'll be bringing in Mata and captaining him.

    Last time I jumped on a bandwagon it was Bendtner but at least I redeemed myself with Yakubu's four goal haul. This time it is Mata, I plan to do take a 4 point hit for this;
    1.Given>Ruddy
    2. Shawx> Caulker
    3. Larsson> Mata
Please talk me out of it!

The 15-man Stoke squad for tonight's Europa League tie against Beşiktaş is not exactly 'full strength':

Begović, Nash, Wilkinson, Higginbotham, Diao, Upson, Clarkson, Dawson, Palacios, Arismendi, Pennant, Jones, Fuller, Jerome, Delap.

waiting for the right moment. as long as he is on the protected list he remains, after which if and only if i have a free transfer i kick him out. He is not worth a 4pt hit and if you have some transfer in mind which is let me know.

Two hopes, Bob and none. It'll be funny to see how Chelski fare when Drogs is away at the ACN, banking on Torres. Maybe Studge gets some games down the middle. Yet another reason to keep the little devil. 🙂
