Micah Richards is on course for a return against Arsenal this weekend. The Toure brothers are to delay their departure for the African Cup of Nations. Damian Duff returns for Fulham in tonight’s Europa League game with Odense, while Mike Williamson hands Alan Pardew a fitness boost by returning to reserve action yesterday.

Reports suggest Micah Richards is set to be fit for Man City’s clash with Arsenal on Sunday. The right-back missed out at Chelsea in his side’s first loss of the campaign but Roberto Mancini is confident he will be ready for the weekend. With Aleksandar Kolarov injured and Gael Clichy suspended, Mancini hinted Richards’ return would allow him to play Pablo Zabaleta in the left-back position against the Gunners.

Mancini also received a boost ahead of next month’s African Cup of Nations. The Italian is a former team mate of Ivory Coast manager Francois Zahoui and their relationship has reportedly allowed him to delay the departure of Yaya and Kolo Toure for vital cup clashes. The tournament starts on January 21 and participants can call up their players a fortnight before the kick-off but City are expected to be allowed to hold on to the pair for their FA Cup clash with Man United on the 8th, as well as the first-leg of their Carling Cup semi final against Liverpool three days later.

Fabian Delph has returned to Aston Villa training ahead of the home clash with Liverpool. The midfielder missed Saturday’s win at Bolton with a knee knock but assistant boss Peter Grant expects him to be available for selection this weekend, as the fixtures start to pick up pace.

Gael Givet is set to give the Blackburn back line a boost by returning to action this weekend. The left-back was subbed off at Sunderland due to heart palpitations but has trained ahead of Saturday’s Ewood Park clash with West Brom.

Yesterday’s news that Darren Fletcher is expected to miss the remainder of the season with a bowel condition looks set to further boost the game time of Phil Jones. With Nemanja Vidic also ruled out for the season, the Scotsman’s unfortunate illness also leaves a gap in the champions’ central midfield. Jones’ versatility has seen him play in central midfield of late and with the ability to shift to right-back or centre-half also in his locker, Jones seems to be an integral part of the United first-team over the ensuing months.

Mike Williamson came through 45 minutes of Newcastle’s reserve clash with Bolton yesterday as he steps up his recovery from an ankle injury. Alan Pardew fielded a back-four without any recognised centre-halves at Norwich but Williamson’s recovery, in addition to the possibility of Fabricio Coloccini’s return for the weekend game at home to Swansea, will be a welcome boost over the festive period.

Damian Duff has recovered from a calf problem in time for Fulham’s Europa League game with Odense this evening. Danny Murphy continues to miss out due to an ankle injury and Mark Schwarzer is expected to shrug off a spine problem to take his place between the sticks.

I don't know about that. They've given away 4 goals against Norwich. With Colo & Tiote possibly back, wouldn't be surprised Pardew choses to go on the defensive.

But there's no denying that Ba looks the most likely to score in that game. So even a single goal could mean BAPS.

For whom? No Anelka. Mata could play RW but it would mean Kalou, Malouda & Torres on the field at some point since Mata most definitely won't play over 70.

Mata - Drog - Studge to start. Drog & Mata to be subbed out early if we're winning.

And Kalou/Malouda will have to play RW, which is their unnatural side.

Only way Studge can be benched is if Mata & Malouda start.

Would it not be possible for Malouda or Kalou to start ahead of him?

Sturridge is a first 11 player now and important to Chelsea's style of play so maybe he will be saved or given a cameo ahead of the game against Spurs on Wednesday?

    Thoughts on my current team:

    Vorm (Ruddy)
    Enrique - Verm - Jones - Simpson - (Wilkinson)
    Bale - Silva - Moses - (Walters) - (Allen)
    Ba (c) - Rvp - Aguero

    No FT's

    Thinking of doing the following:
    GW18 - Aguero + Allen > Nani + Sturridge
GW19 - Double transfer to get Ade (and maybe Walker) in

Does it sound like a plan?

    Cheers

Personally, because this is the first real test of Tottenham's Top 4 prospects. Played well 2nd half against Stoke last week but were pretty ordinary in the first (partly down to Stoke's impressive pressing play) but good teams with lofty ambitions do recover quickly from set-backs.

A strong home win sends a message to fans and oppo that this Spurs team is to be taken very seriously, anything else would see a 'same ol' Spurs' response from both.

It could be a smart hedge play, but I doubt it in most cases. Personally, I'd double-up one way or the other. I'm playing Krul and Danny over Vorm and Naylor for this very reason this GW, and I would seriously consider dropping any MC/Gooner Defs, I cannot see a CS for either but plenty of goals is very likely.

If teams are more or less equal you can still play both and get decent returns (VP, kompany). If there's a big gap you might want to bench the weaker player (BA, vorm).

Right, what to do with Drenthe. I have 2.9M in the bank to replace him and his is due to fall in price. Any transfer would be for a hit. Shall I cut my losses and get Bale in now? Perhaps Lennon or Ramires?

Or give Royston one more chance and get Bale after Chelsea game by going Given--->Sorensen or Brown--->Gabbidon next week thus avoiding a hit. I will have Simpson or Dyer to come off my bench if Drenthe doesnt feature.

I can't see too much downside switching Drenthe to Bale, but not for a hit. I'd stick this GW, do it for free next.

(Ajay*) Thanks it was a subtle one.

If Drenthe falls I cant do it for free next week (I would be 0.1 short) so I would have to generate cash my moving Given or Brown and get Bale after Spurs v Chelsea.

I got RVP and Ba and am sticking there. Bale is tempting but 4/5 above me have him. Lennon is therefore in my thinking for now as he is differential (who plays!!!).

Feno, Wilko to Jones would be my shout. Winnable games coming up with v. good CS potential, plus he'll probably get several games OPOP in Mid, and he's shown several times that he can break forward and get/assist goals.

Would save you slumming it with Naylor this GW too. 🙂

Feno, if no Jones then Ivano is a decent shout, but I prefer him when he plays FB, he gets forward and puts in decent crosses with assist potential. PLaying CB (like now?) limits this ability.

Of course (BEWARE: Spurs fan predicting CS wealth warning), you could go Walker too.
