The draw for the first round of the 2019/20 FFS Cup FFS Cup

This upcoming weekend sees the Paddy Power Cup V enter a manic three-week period, where 128 fantasy managers will be whittled down to a final eight entering the New Year. That’s a long way away though, and those still in the competition will be eager just to see this week’s fixtures – which can be viewed right here

Our last-remaining former-champ, Ninja_fit_saints, will have to overcome a huge gulf in class if he is to avoid going the way of his fellow past winners. His opponent, Mayhey Kid, has over 100 points more than Ninja_fit_saints and will go into the tie as heavy favourite.

Also fancying his chances this week will be Mark, who stands over 50 points ahead of his fourth round competition, Hassyg.

Last week’s top-scorer Cabaroota Beach queens has drawn s4petah, and will be confident on building on his third round momentum and progressing at s4petah’s expense.

If you’re looking for a ‘glamour-tie’ of the round, then EasyLuckyFree versus Der-Hammer95 is surely a contender. Two recognisable names going head-to-head for a place in the last 64.

With just one ‘off-day’ between Gameweek 16 and 17, I’ll endeavour to bring you both the fourth round results and the fifth round fixtures on Monday, but be warned(!)… you may not have much time to scout your opponent should you be fortunate enough to make it through this week. Good luck.

+1. That's what I'm thinking, OR wait a week in GW 23, because that week you can see early team news as it's midweek.

Early team news? Tell me about that pls.

But the UTd fixtures and Tot are becoming awful and City are becoming great. I'll load up on City. Also I might have a Demps punt for Bale. Tot have the big 4 in the next 6, not good, not good at all.

im wildcarding after that week, unsure whether to just plan for 4 weeks and wildcard again after gwk25 tho or save it until around gwk28/29

Well we already begun discussion and I don't approve your back to back wildcards strategy. i might be wrong you know, but You are gambling on 1 - 2 GW's So what if there are double GW's. I think that the WC should be used for gaining value and making a long term team, or at least mid term. I made that mistake with the free WC in GW 2 and paid the price.

And regarding winter WC, looks like we agree. The fixtures swing is practically saying or itself. I still don't know what to do with Bale that time, but still early, I might go for ballo/ dzeko actually cause it seems that Kun is not worth the extra 3m.

            Cheers so GW22 it is.

i wouldnt use it for a doubleweek, i was thinking if there was a week with say 2-3 fixtures like last year then i could have a full 11 players whereas most have 2-3 players and with no auto captain i could gain alot of points

will only do it if the weather plays havoc

if not its probably wildcard gwk22 and gwk30 (when spurs n liverpools fixtures are lovely until the end) for me

I've been looking at this, the only times he's played less than 60 was twice at home, so can see him maybe playing against Ars and then rested for Stoke. I'll suck that up though he has a better PPG away from home anyway.

    GW16:

    Hennessey
    Simpson Baines(c) Jones
    Mata Bale Walters Yaya Toure
    RVP Sturridge Adebayor

    Vorm: Hoolahan N.Taylor Tierney

How is this looking? Took a 4 point hit on it, but quite pleased.

    Think I am all set!
    Ruddy
    Simpson Vermaelen Enrique
    Silva Mata (c) Nani Bale
    Ba RVP Adebayor (vc)
    Vorm - Naylor Dyer Brown
Keep switching Ade and Mata to C and VC but think I have settled
Thinking of Ruddy over Vorm as Everton have been rubbish the last 2 weeks and haven't managed 1 shot on target, although Norwich have yet to keep a clean sheet..

And please don't kill the messenger but, I have a feeling that Mata will play 55min this w/e. I think the best captain this week is actually Lamps. He'll start and play the whole 90 min. I see a game like against B'burn for him. Then against Tot he is on the bench too.

    Hey guys, my team:

    Vorm (Ruddy)
    Verm, Raylor, Enrique (Simpson, Wilko)
    Nani, Silva, Bale, Walters (Moses)
    RVP, Ba(c), Adebayor

    0.5m in bank.

I've made my transfers for this week but heading away on holiday with limited net access so need to plan ahead.

I think goalkeep looks my weakpoint so planning on getting Ruddy out for Hennesy/Sorensen next GW, and maybe to a double transfer of Ba > Sturridge and Silva/Nani > Mata in GW 18. I'd also like to try and fit in Jones but not sure how (don't really want to ditch Verm).

Any thoughts, or other potential improvements?

What gameweeks would you suggest that might be times to rest any of the big stars? For instance I would say that Blackburn at home on 31st of January might be an optimum time to rest Rooney as it's a game they should win without him and is before a more tough fixture against Newcastle (A). Same logic for Silva away to Sunderland before Liverpool only 2 days later. Does anyone have any other suggestions for the popular players and possible rests?

Well my value is spread across the team

        Vorm/Al Habsi
        Kompany/P Jones / Enrique / ShawX / BAE
        Bale / Silva / Sess / Walters / Murphy
        RVP / Ba / Ade

So a lot invested in my backline. A lot seem to have the raylors instead of the jones', freeing up money for a bale instead of a sess type value.

        Interesting!

that's unfortunately what happens when everybody shares their ideas. unfortunately, the lateral thinkers do not do so great in this game, only if small variations. there is a template of about 25 players that about 90% of the top 100,000 in this game pick their starting 11 from.

Hey guys, which fixtures this year do you think will most likely be affected by weather?

Last year it was Blackpool that seemed be hit the hardest as rubbish weather plus no ground heating in Stadium. As an immigrant I have absolutely no clue as to who the candidates would be this year.

Hard to tell really I think. Whenever I see the weather it always seems to me like the west of the country gets more rain and therefore I assume snow when it's cold. I live in Cambridge and it rarely gets our way, I don't know if the same applies to Norwich, for instance. I remember a couple of years ago it snowed on like the thursday or friday and all the games were off except the ones later in the week. I remember it well because I captained Tevez on the monday night against Blackburn and he scored a Hat trick in a weekend when hardly anyone else played...

But remember last year, it was all about access and health and safety...all the grounds (except Blackpool) were playable but games were called off due to concerns for supporter safety. It wasn't really anywhere in particular if you remember either, London was as badly hit as anywhere else.

So you're saying it was more to do with safety of crowd access to stadium/seats than the condition of the pitch itself?

Yes that's exactly what I'm saying. Playing surfaces are almost always fine these days. It's all the ice on pavements outside the grounds that's the problem. I wouldn't worry about Swansea per se. In fact I'm pretty certain that coastal temperatures tend to be slightly higher then inland areas.

Yeah, I think that if the weather is bad enough to call off games it will have to be bad enough to be countrywide. I.e. it's unlikely that there will be a terrible snowstorm localised to Birmingham but not anywhere else.

I was thinking about this - The only way I think you can avoid the problem is by having as diverse a team as possible. I.e. as far as possible, avoid having 3 players from the same team or even 2 if you can. That way you spread the risk.

    Two dilemma's in my team:

    a) Sinclair (vs Newcasle away) or Eagles (vs Fulham away).

I already have Vorm and Ba in my team.

    b) Kompany (vs Arsenal at home) or Simpson (vs Swansea at home)

Who would you guys opt for?

    Fairly confident for this week:

    Krul
    Enrique Hibbert Vermaelen
    Drenthe Bale Silva Mata
    Ade RVP Sturridge

    Westwood; Olsson Gower Rangel

Managed to save a transfer this week, fairly confident Drenthe will start, so it's time to repay the faith with a 15 pointer!

Wage cap at 70K a week, which admittedly might be a bit higher by then (100k is the rumour), basically rules every world class striker out. Only reason they can have Adebayor for example is because City still pay 100K a week of his wages.

Don't they have Ade for the rest of the season btw? Will get better value if they hold out to summer if so.

Yep. Although didn't Spurs pay a hefty "Loan Fee" to Citeh to take on Ade which effectively meant they still paid his (or most of his) wages?

Maybe they could try the same approach to a new striker... Torres on loan? That would be interesting.

I don't know, it's not what I've heard but it might well be the case anyway.

I think Tottenham are probably in their best position ever to sign big names right now, even better than before and during the last CL campaign, because they're playing better football now, competing with the best teams and with visible talent in many positions. If they could just afford the wages I think they could sign some big players this January and summer if nothing bad happens. Doing that would possibly also make it easier to keep players like Modric, which is key.

Jose Enrique, Simpson, Brown, Wilkinson, Taylor (Swansea),
    Silva, Nani, Mata, Bale, (Dyer)
    Ade, RVP, Ba

Got £1.1m in the bank and 2 free transfers.

Obviously Given has to go, but do I go ultra cheap, someone like Ruddy or spend a bit more on Hennesey or Krul?

Then need to upgrade my defense, thinking Wilkinson > Evans.

    Any thoughts?

    Team is:

    Vorm Krul

    Enrique Vermalen Baines Gabbidon ShawX

    Silva Bale Walters Sinclair Drenthe

    RVP Ba Adebayor

    and 0.3 in the bank

Really feel like I need Nani or Mata for the next few weeks but I can't find a way to fit them in. I know I have a lot of money tied up in my defense, but I want to keep Baines for the next few weeks because of fixtures... Any ideas? Any help would be very much appreciated

Looks like that's the only option. But I bought Silva for 9.5 and then I'll have no Man City cover which scares me a little

how about Verm > cheaper and then Drenthe > Yaya?

phased in over the next few weeks.

Villa has broken his shin bone. That's one silly transfer spec we won't be listening to.

Uh-oh. Emilio Contreras of Marca is suggesting that David Villa may have fractured his tibia - which would put him out for six months.

i'm sure that injury is connected to his knee bone.
