[sbu_large_image] Suspensions

We had to wait until the final game of the day to find the disciplinary angle on Sunday’s proceedings, but sure as night follows day, it duly arrived in the shape of a fifth booking of the season for Arsenal’s Alex Song. His early yellow means that he’ll now be absent from the matchday squad for the visit to Aston Villa in midweek.

Replacing him on the suspension tightrope is teammate Mikel Arteta. Already a recipient of a league cup yellow in the early rounds for Everton, his booking today for a foul on Yaya Touré means he has now accrued a further three in the league for new club Arsenal, and takes up the spot on the tightrope vacated by Song.

There’s been some confusion about this as a result of talk of an earlier booking at Blackburn whilst with Everton. We’ve had it confirmed by Opta that this booking was never actually awarded (despite what other sources show); as a result, Arteta has now moved on to four yellow cards – one short of a ban. We will of course clarify this with the FA and confirm tomorrow.

With the other disciplinary matters of the gameweek rounded up in yesterday’s article, there’s just time for a final line to summarise the Luis Suarez situation: with the hearing into his alleged racism underway and a decision delayed until Tuesday at the earliest, there’s still some uncertainty as to whether we’ll know more before the gameweek 17 deadline of 19:30 GMT the same day. It’s entirely possible that if a decision is delayed again until Wednesday, and if a ban is handed out that afternoon, that he would be ineligible for Liverpool’s trip to Wigan in the evening. We’ll of course keep you posted as soon as we hear anything.

GAMEWEEK 17 BANS

  • Alex Song (Arsenal) – 5 Yellows (1 match)
  • David Wheater (Bolton) – 1 Red for serious foul play (Last of 4 matches)
  • Jay Spearing (Liverpool) – 1 Red for serious foul play (Last of 3 matches)
  • Yohan Cabaye (Newcastle) – 5 Yellows (1 match)
  • Dan Gosling (Newcastle) – 1 Red for serious foul play (Second of 3 matches)
  • Ryan Shawcross (Stoke) – 5 Yellows (1 match)

SUSPENSION TIGHTROPE – FOUR BOOKINGS

  • Mikel Arteta (Arsenal)
  • Stiliyan Petrov (Aston Villa)
  • Míchel Salgado (Blackburn)
  • Nigel Reo-Coker (Bolton)
  • Paul Robinson (Bolton)

  • Raul Meireles (Chelsea)
  • Ramires (Chelsea)
  • Moussa Dembélé (Fulham)
  • Brede Hangeland (Fulham)
  • Danny Murphy (Fulham)
  • Steve Sidwell (Fulham)
  • Kyle Naughton (Norwich)
  • Glenn Whelan (Stoke)

Don't forget the return of Cleverley might push Jones back a line on the expense of
Evans, though physioroom also states Clev is possibly back.

so is there any threat for Evans ?

Not after the way he played today. And Fergie will prob want to build a settled back 4 without chopping and changing. Jones is better in midfield aswell so Cleverley will need to wait his turn I reckon.

I dont imagine so over the christmas period ManU will want a stable squad, a stable first 11. At the moment they clearly have it, don't think SAF would mess it up to much with someone who is just coming back into the squad from injury. This christmas period is crucial.

We won't keep playing this same 11 week in week out over christmas.

For a start Chico is back now so that cuts into Welbeck's prospects.

The midfield is most likely to be changed, defence probably not so much but Smalling will get rested at some point for Rafael

No need to change Wes Brown as Richards, Jones and Enrique are his first 3 and Simpson/Brown are good back up.

Pilk is dropping tonight apparently. I wont lose anything on him though. What with him not featuring in the last two, im skeptical about him starting vs Wolves in midweek. Lineup's are out early so if he's starting he'll go straight in my XI, otherwise it's 2nd sub.

Going to play somewhat safe with RVP(c) this week

I have hope with Lambert and his rotation but my hand will obviously be forced with knowledge of the line-ups. If he drops in price, no bother, Pilk -> Moses/Gomez long-term.

You've gotta keep a clean sheet at home to Swansea so on that basis, guaranteed 6 points + attacking points that Baines always seems to be so close to. Plus no-one else shouts out at me- RVP might be rested?

Everton can't seem to do clean sheets at the moment, and they don't look like scoring many. Baines is at massive risking of walking away with 2 points from that game, which sounds obvious, but i think you can't look past RVP if he's in your team. Don't think he'll be rested as Song's out and Arsenal need their most influential player if they're going to get back to winning ways. Rest vs Wolves more likely imo

I just read your article on SPOTY.

You claim that Amir Khan, Mark Cavendish and Luke Donald are bad picks. Bullsh*t

Luke Donald is top of the money list on both PGA and European Tour's
Mark Cavendish won 5 Stage of the Tour De France and won the overall green jersey which is the best a sprint cyclist can get
Amir Khan has won a few fights this year.

I think that may come back to bite you. I think Fulham will score 1 at least + he is prone to rotation and Swansea find it hard to score.

I'm absolutely gutted to get a huge red arrow after captaining Sturridge. If he gets me 3bps(x2), Silva 3 bps and possibly 1 or 2 for BAE it won't be so bad.

My 4 point hit for Long to Sturridge looked great yesterday. The other half was VDV to Bale 😡

No chance. Wolves at home the better game to do it in.

He's chasing that goals record for the calender year aswell, so won't feel he'll want a rest, coupled with Arsenal dropping points and needing to get back to winning ways.

Ah sorry just noticed you already have got Nani. I'd say neither. Chico isn't nailed on to start over the next few games with Welbz and Berba being fit, and Fergie loves rotation.

Those thinking of RVP captain on Wednesday, think again!!
That Arsenal team is going to be out of sorts at the back without either back and either DM

Yes Villa are pants but, maybe RVP will even be rested with only three days rest?

    Chesney
    Kosc Sack Verm ??
    Diaby? Frimpong
