We had to wait until the final game of the day to find the disciplinary angle on Sunday’s proceedings, but sure as night follows day, it duly arrived in the shape of a fifth booking of the season for Arsenal’s Alex Song. His early yellow means that he’ll now be absent from the matchday squad for the visit to Aston Villa in midweek.

Replacing him on the suspension tightrope is teammate Mikel Arteta. Already a recipient of a league cup yellow in the early rounds for Everton, his booking today for a foul on Yaya Touré means he has now accrued a further three in the league for new club Arsenal, and takes up the spot on the tightrope vacated by Song.

There’s been some confusion about this as a result of talk of an earlier booking at Blackburn whilst with Everton. We’ve had it confirmed by Opta that this booking was never actually awarded (despite what other sources show); as a result, Arteta has now moved on to four yellow cards – one short of a ban. We will of course clarify this with the FA and confirm tomorrow.

With the other disciplinary matters of the gameweek rounded up in yesterday’s article, there’s just time for a final line to summarise the Luis Suarez situation: with the hearing into his alleged racism underway and a decision delayed until Tuesday at the earliest, there’s still some uncertainty as to whether we’ll know more before the gameweek 17 deadline of 19:30 GMT the same day. It’s entirely possible that if a decision is delayed again until Wednesday, and if a ban is handed out that afternoon, that he would be ineligible for Liverpool’s trip to Wigan in the evening. We’ll of course keep you posted as soon as we hear anything.

GAMEWEEK 17 BANS

  • Alex Song (Arsenal) – 5 Yellows (1 match)
  • David Wheater (Bolton) – 1 Red for serious foul play (Last of 4 matches)
  • Jay Spearing (Liverpool) – 1 Red for serious foul play (Last of 3 matches)
  • Yohan Cabaye (Newcastle) – 5 Yellows (1 match)
  • Dan Gosling (Newcastle) – 1 Red for serious foul play (Second of 3 matches)
  • Ryan Shawcross (Stoke) – 5 Yellows (1 match)

SUSPENSION TIGHTROPE – FOUR BOOKINGS

  • Mikel Arteta (Arsenal)
  • Stiliyan Petrov (Aston Villa)
  • Míchel Salgado (Blackburn)
  • Nigel Reo-Coker (Bolton)
  • Paul Robinson (Bolton)
  • Frank Lampard (Chelsea)
  • Raul Meireles (Chelsea)
  • Ramires (Chelsea)
  • Moussa Dembélé (Fulham)
  • Brede Hangeland (Fulham)
  • Danny Murphy (Fulham)
  • Steve Sidwell (Fulham)
  • Kyle Naughton (Norwich)
  • Glenn Whelan (Stoke)
  • Scott Parker (Tottenham)
  • Steven Reid (West Brom)
  • Paul Scharner (West Brom)

Would love an RMT guys. 🙂 I have 0.4 in the bank and one free transfer, are there any obvious transfers staring me in the face that I need to make for GW17?

    Vorm, Krul
    Jones, Ward, Enrique, Simpson, Brown
    Nani, Gower, Silva, Walters, Drenthe
    Ba, RVP, Adebayor

Thankyou in advance for any replies!

Got a tough captaincy choice for the next week

    Rooney(ful) or RVP(avl)

Rooney and United seem to have hit form but RVP is well...RVP.
Silver and Nani are also outside bets.

Who do you guys think I should captain, really struggling with this one

Hard to say as he actually played very well yesterday and is certainly a favourite of Fergies for his work ethic and strength.

But he's keeping a certain little pea off the pitch so could be rotated at any time

leaning towards B. However Drenthe is not guaranteed although it would be foolish for Moyes not to start him. Also with Hernandez back it MAY affect Rooney's output. A) isn't so good for this week because spurs and chelsea are playing each other. I would try and save a transfer

Yup its a good move imo. Everton defenders are too pricey and don't deliver. In fact Everton look very very mediocre at the moment given how pricey their players are.

They probably need to change something up in January.
Can see Nani doing well in those 2 home games. Solid moves

    Vorm (Westy)
    Hibbert Simpson Enrique
    Drenthe Nani Silva VDV
    RVP Ba Ade

    bench: Naylor Walters Wilko

    should I:

    a) Hibert>J Evans (save a free for next GW)
    b) Ade>Sturridge & Hibbert>Jones (probably have to take a hit to get Ade back in for DGW)
c)something else I havent thought of

      a) trust me, don't start playing around with your attackers - it just leads to frustration. Sit them there to soak up points with RVP as captain. Looking at the Drenthe and Walters combo myself.

Thanks for the reply. Not sure I agree about not changing attackers though. Ade looks a bit lost at the moment and VDV is a bit of a points hogger whereas Studge is a long term target of mine who's going from strength to strength.

I did reply to this but FFS seemed to go down.

Anyway, it's a catch22 with someone like Ade and it applies to many other attackers. So many variables, it's difficult to know whether to stick or twist. The RVP Ade Ba combo is still the best, I think.

Anyway I did the transfers (b). I unfortunately havent got much time to think this week. I'm going to Shanghai and then flying home to England for crimbo (I live in China). By the time I land in Manchester it will be past the deadline.

Thought Jones and Studge looked great in their games and will be longterm fixtures in my team. Ade will be back for GW 20 in the place of Ba. He's frustrated the hell out of me since I bought him though

I wouldnt sell mata if i had him. Chelsea have a nice run once they've got Spurs out of the way.

If you've already got Mata and only recently got rid of Studge then I'd probably stick with Ade too and be prepeared to be frustrated a lot of the time and reap the double figure rewards when they come around (hopefully GW20 when I've brought him back)

    Hi Udit,

Jags -> Shotton/Caulker I like the idea of looking for the cheapest way into a defence so I agree with that. Not too sure if you've missed the boat with those teams though. SWN have a tough run of fix now and STK seem to concede. I'd be looking at Evans at 4.4. Unfortunately, you already have Jones. Not sure now is the time to be getting rid of Jags in front of a promising fixture and dgw. Hold onto him for now.

By freeing up cash in defence though, you'll be able to upgrade Sess though and I do think Nani is going to be needed with the kind run he has coming up.

Ba->Sturridge would be a much better move.

lol all those who failed to sell VDV at the right time are gloating about one assist , all hes done for weeks.
The price drop has been horrendous , far more important than the one assist those clining onto him have recieved.

All those who got rid of him three weeks ago , will have him back in for the double at a nice cheap price., and a much higher bank balance

Yeah, obviously it would have been better to get rid of him 3 weeks ago but you never knew if he was gonna come back or not. I was surprised that now he was back that so many people were getting rid of him this week!

Just after some opinions, to be honest I have no firm transfer plans but havent made a transfer in 2 gws so would love for someone to suggest something that could be worth a punt. Here's my team:

    Vorm
    Simpson Enrique Jones
    Barfa Bale Walters VDV
    Aguero (vc) RVP (c) Suarez

    Begovic Naylor Dyer BAE

0 in the bank. As I said I have no idea what to do. I was thinking of doing begovic&aguero -> cerny&rooney. but then aguero was looking quite sharp (minus his finishing) and rooney seems to score far less when playing with hernandez than he does with welbeck. So yeah, if anyone has any good ideas, I'd love to hear them

Get rid of Suarez for Studge and upgrade Dyer or Barfa to maybe Larsson/Drenthe (maybe a bit early on Royston)

yeah i plan to do the suarez -> sturridge swap but don't see the point of doing it this week when liverpool has wigan and chelsea has tottenham at the lane. would you do it anyway?

It's a tough one. Actually I probably wouldnt do it this week just as Wigan is a fixture that you want your striker playing in.

But you also must consider Suarez has had plenty of 'easy' fixtures and still not produced the goods. And IMO your MF needs fairly urgent attention with Bale (injury), Dyer (dropped) and Barfa (form/rotation).

So you just gotta weigh up the risks versus rewards.

Another option is Aguero as you mentioned yourself but he actually looked very sharp yesterday and Citys fixtures are clearing up now.

I think the time to get rid of Aguero was several weeks ago before they played such a tough run of fixtures and when Aguero was looking a bit 'cold' form wise

all relevant points. you're right about my midfield but I quite like having 3 big guns up front (you can argu that suarez isn't a big gun). what do you think of the transfers mentioned below? (with jarvis)

Not keen to be honest. Just not keen on Wolves players. They're ok for the price I suppose but just very meh (for want of a better word) 🙁

I would argue that Suarez isn't a big-hitter I'm afraid. He's just not done it in fantasy terms despite going 16 GWs looking like he's going to explode the next gameweek. It just never happens........

I'd drop one expensive striker for Ba/Studge and plough some much needed cash into MF personally but it's up to you buddy

Drenthe may be in line to start from now on as he is back from injury. He could be a good bet but I would wait to see if he plays a full game first before getting him in. Likewise with Barfa

Drenthe is now going to be the player we wanted him to be 4 weeks ago. He did more in 16mins than the rest of the Everton team did in the previous 3 GWs.

But yeh I wouldnt buy him now if I didnt already own him 😕

In a bit of a quandary about who to play this gameweek, any thoughts appreciated

    Vorm/ Hennessy

    Raylor Taylor Jones Vermaelen Enrique

    Bale Silva Nani Drenthe (Ferguson)

    RVP Adebayor Sturridge

Vorm/Hennessy is giving me headaches, as are the Raylor/Bale injury clouds
PLUS I don't know if I should play Drenthe over say Sturridge this week?

Bale might not make it back and make your selection dilemma a bit easier.

IMO you have too much cash tied up in DF with some very good and high scoring DFers in reserve. Raylor and Naylor are actually big hitting defenders this season without the hefty price tag. You'll end up playing Jones, Enrique and Verm every game as they're so expensive and missing out on cleanies from Swans and Newc.

I'd look to lose one of my expensive DF and upgrade Ferguson personally

thanks.. I was thinking the same thing, but tbh I am waiting for the Newcastle defensive bubble to burst, already Raylor's returns have been mediocre at best lately. Plus naylor is only really useful at home.

What I would love to do, is downgrade a defender to get in rooney, that guy is gonna explode over the next month.

I don't think the Newc defensive bubble will burst anytime soon. Tiote and Collicini are both back and Newc has some great fixtures coming up. Even Swans are looking better away from home these days (4 clean sheets in 6 including trips to Anfield and St James' park).

Your link is broken but from what you've said yep I agree your MF is a priority right now. Trouble is the make-up of your team doesnt allow you much room for options. The sub 5mil MFers are all fairly gash to do a like-for-like swap IMO.

Can you downgrade in DF? (i.e Verm/Enrique/Jones/Komp/Richards>Evans)
            and then upgrade in MF

Evans is a very cheap way into the Utd defence and a trade that I have just done myself. McCauley though 4.0 is handy to have around the place though. Is there anyone else that needs bootin'?

Moses is handy to have for various reasons:
      - frees up cash at 4.6
      - gets gametime
      - OOP potential
      - in some semblance of form
      - FFS cult figure which makes you look coooooool 😉

with one FT and 1.8 in bank, is this team decent enough to save the transfer for midweek? with Bale on doubt.

    Vorm, (Hennessey)
    Jones, Enrique, Simpson, (Ntaylor, Wilko)
    Bale, Silva, Nani, Larsson, (dyer)
    RVP, Sturridge, Adebayor
