John Terry suffers a training ground Achilles scare but is expected to be fit for Thursday’s trip to Spurs. Jamie O’Hara is still unavailable for Wolves ahead of tomorrow night’s home game with Norwich, while the injuries continue to mount up for Steve Kean:

Wolves confirmed earlier today that both Jamie O’Hara and Dave Edwards are out of tomorrow night’s game against Norwich. The pair missed the weekend defeat at home to Stoke but O’Hara had initially been expected to be fit for the Canaries game. Given he has averaged over 9 points per game in his last three Molineux fixtures, his loss is a significant blow for both Mick McCarthy and Fantasy managers alike.

The injuries continue to rack up for Blackburn’s under-fire boss Steve Kean. Gael Givet is set for a spell on the sidelines, with the club announcing he is to undergo minor heart surgery, though Kean doesn’t expect his length of absence to be too prolonged. Scott Dann is also out for an estimated period of 6 weeks– the centre-half injured his groin in the process of scoring his side’s equaliser against West Brom and is to undergo an operation. Kean does, however, expect Junior Hoilett to be available for tomorrow night’s visit of Bolton.

Chelsea’s open training session today saw John Terry helped off the pitch after suffering what appeared to be an ankle problem. The club physios have since said he tweaked his Achilles but the Blues skipper is expected to be fit for Thursday’s trip to Spurs. David Luiz and Ramires both sat out training, with the pair having missed the visit to Wigan at the weekend.

The omission of Darren Bent from Aston Villa’s first XI against Liverpool yesterday came as a surprise to many. Bent’s subsequent Christmas shopping trip as his side went down 2-0 raised more than a few eyebrows, though, and led Alex McLeish to insist there has been no falling out between the pair. With Gabby Agbonlahor also out due to suspension, Villa were forced to field Emile Heskey and Nathan Delfouneso up front and never threatened Kenny Dalglish’s side throughout the ninety minutes. Big Eck explained post-match:

Darren had a scan during the week. It confirmed he had a grade one injury, I didn’t reveal it because I wanted to keep things back from Liverpool. You have to understand that. I didn’t want Liverpool knowing our starting line-up. Darren was injured. Bent was in for two hours’ treatment this morning and was told to rest at home. He went home and watched the game but near the end he went out to collect some Christmas presents. End of story.

Johan Djourou limped out of Arsenal’s game against Manchester City yesterday with a groin injury. Djourou was replaced after 46 minutes by Ignasi Miquel and with Arsene Wenger estimating the Swiss international is likely to be out for 21 days, it’s fair to say the Gunners have something of a defensive dilemma right now. Kieran Gibbs has an outside chance of making it for the game at Aston Villa but barring that, Miquel could well continue at left-back, with Thomas Vermaelen moving back to the centre and Laurent Koscielny out right.

      I hope you mean Turner to Verm.

      Looks good though, I've done 2 transfers this week to sort out my defence, then trying to work Nani into my squad next week, Mata may have to go.

        Yes, no doubt things will change but a path is there.

        Turner to Verm, yes.

        Yeah, letting go of Mata is going to be the most painful one but sacrifices have to be made and Sturridge is better value for money.

        No Chelsea coverage v FUL and no Utd cover v new but I'm happy. McAuley will need to go for someone like Agger/Skrtel eventually.

        I undercovered for the DGW 24 last year and it cost me my season.

    Who are the best 4.0-4.5 defenders – if you look at fixtures (clean sheets), team form and attacking skills until the January wildcard?

    Would you recommend using the budget in offense, defense or midfield until January?

    Is Drenthe / Walters (Larsson) a better pair than Nani / Gower?

    And lastly: Drenthe / Walters / Rooney or Nani / Gower / Ba?

      1) I was thinking Drenthe but not sure yet. No other Everton players should be touched.
      2) I'm captaining RVP but Ba might still be worth a shout. West Brom will be buoyant after the Blackburn win so that game won't go all Newcastle's way.
      3) I would lose Wilko for Shotton or Caulker and yeah Warnock & Villa are a write off.

    Got 2 free transfers this week and 0.1m in the bank. These are my two transfer plans, which is better?

    (A) 8 pts hit
    gw17 Baines/Smalling/Adebayor -> Caulker/Gabbidon/Rooney
    gw18 Brown/Ba -> Shotton/Sturridge
    gw19 Reo-Coker -> Walters

    (B) 8 pts hit
    gw17 Jones/Smalling/Adebayor -> Shotton/JEvans/Rooney
    gw18 Baines/Ba -> Assou Ekotto/Sturridge
    gw19 Reo-Coker -> Walters

    Current team:
    Vorm, Krul
    Baines, Jones, Brown, Smalling, Simpson
    Silva, Bale, Nani, B.Johnson, Reo-Coker
    RVP, Ba, Adebayor

    Why are people captaining Silva over RVP this week. Ba I can understand, but a number of city players can score and Silva could be rotated this week - unlikely as it is. I Newcastle score 8/10 times it will be Ba and if arsenal score 9/10 times it will be RVP, plus he's up against a very poor Villa side low in confidence.

      So for who do you vote for? I captained Silva this week, he made me proud

        RVP mate. I might be wrong but Stoke aren't going to make it easy for City.

    Anyone looking for a good differential? I reckon I've found a cracker. Check out these stats

    THREE starts this season
    He has scored TWO goals
    He plays for a team averaging a massive ONE goal per game

    Sound good? Only 1.0% ownership, and I can say for certain that NO ONE has ever mentioned him on this forum even once. Ready?

    Drenthe

      Drenthe, Osman and Baines will combine to make him look like a tool.

        don't see why not. it amuses me slightly how swansea are being lorded as a secure team away from home after liverpool fluffed a tonne of chances against them and ba failed to score

      With one exception he seems to have picked a pretty rough set of games to come back to. Let's hope he stays fit till I might want him in February.

      Hold the transfer maybe. If youre willing to take the gamble on Drenthe starting he could score well. How doubtful is Bale though? And is Caulker starting now?

    Team for the gw is
    Howard
    Ward Enrique Simpson
    VdV Silva Nani Brunt
    RvP Sturridge Welbeck

    Vorm Shawcross BenArfa Brown

    Ive 1.1 in the bank. Thinking of doing Welbeck to Ba or take a punt on maybe Saha? What do ye think about Saha? Should he start?

    I do need to get rid of BenArfa also as hes not starting but I reckon he could start the next game after the 0-0. Will leave him on bench anyway and see what happens! Any other ideas? Cheers

        Yeah thats the easy transfer to make alright! Just thinking Saha could also bang in a few but he would probably end up getting injured or tired or.... at some stage
