With the dust barely settled from the weekend’s action, Gameweek 17 is upon us immediately and we’ve still the small matter of announcing the Round Five fixtures for the Paddy Power Cup V. Before that however, let’s take a minute to reflect on the results from Round Four, which can be viewed right here. The headlines…

A brand new name will be etched onto the mythical Cup, as reigning champ Ninja_Fit_Saints become the fourth and final former winner to meet his match. Mayhey Kid took the scalp 56 – 39, to complete the four-week demise of the Cup royalty.

There’s no stopping Mark though, who dispatched Hassyg 72 – 55 booking his place in the last 64. That score of 72 earned the Scout leader a bronze medal for the week, bettered only by Dyslexia United‘s 73 (- 32 Tommytabs123) and Milton Millieiscos‘ top-scoring 77 (- 46 F.Y.F.B).

Now, onto the fifth round draw… The 32 fixtures are available to peruse right here.

The highest-ranked fantasy manager left in the competition is non other than Der-Hammer95, sitting a hugely impressive 356th overall. He comes up against s4petah, who beat the round three top-scorer at the weekend.

Mark’s fine run looks set to continue, as he has drawn the lowest-ranked manager left in the competition, Mighty Manchester.

Good luck to all 64 participants, and we’ll bring you the results and subsequent fixtures in plenty of time before the Boxing Day Premier League games.

There isn't much around the 5.0-6.5 mids at the moment, so he isn't the worst player you can get. He should start after his impact on Saturday, just don't expect a full 90 minutes from him

Newcastle lost 4-2 to norwich, which was probably a bit of a psychological blow as they had done so much better against much better opposition. Swansea won in dramatic fashion/kept a clean sheet thanks to vorm. despite ba playing well, newcastle may have been a bit down on confidence, and swans defense may have been extra confident of keeping him out.

my reasoning for only giving ba the vc

              I would save the transfer.

I'm capt Ba this week, he's the outstanding choice IMO.

Just had a gut feeling that's all - coupled with the fact that the Swans are more solid defensively against the more 'footballing' teams. (Ars + L'pool away, only 1 goal conceded)

Glad to hear your (C) Ba, im prob sticking with him, seriously considering Baines aswell tho but 90% Ba. Just watching extended highlights of Swans game now and he looks a right menace to society 🙂

Don't do Baines. This is the first time that I am really confident about the Swans away. Their tails are up and I fancy them to the tune of a 2-1 win.

Brendan has always chopped and changed the midfield before and during games for tactical reasons. The only safe choices are Britton & Sinclair.

I feel like I'm damned to keep Ramsey up to the DGW....most people seem to favour the Rambo -> Drenthe move this week, but assuming no games get cancelled I fancy Ramsey (avl, WOL, QPR) to outscore Drenthe (SWA, sun, wba) over the next 3 games . You agree? If so, i'll do the Rambo -> Drenthe move in GW20....

I think Ramsey has been playing well, and unlucky not to score. However, Drenthe looks very deadly when he's on the pitch. Either one could do well over the next three, Ramsey will have more pitch time and Drenthe might create more chances with less pitch time.

50/50 Over the next three imo! (not what you wanted to hear, right? )

Not trying to be contrary, but I honestly think Ramsey has been quite poor at times this season. Was incredibly frustrating watching his love of entirely unnecessary flicks ruining several of Arsenal's moves against Man City. He's a big talent but he's still got a long way to go in my opinion.

Even though he does make poor passes at times, he also ends up in good scoring positions game after game. I do believe that when Drenthe is on the pitch he is more likely to score/assist, but he might only get 20, 20, 60 minutes depending on his injury/fitness.. vs Ramsey with closer to 90, 90, 90.

Really a toss up....Ramsey will have more time, but Drenthe will be more forward. Arsenal will score more, but Drenthe will be more involved percentage wise.

I don't really fancy Ramsey to outscore anyone at the moment, doesn't look like he can get himself any points at all. The only thing is Drenthe is always a risk, it could end up with double figures, you could end up with negative points. Can see him scoring well in those fixtures, I think it's unlikely Ramsey will return anything.

I cant stand R taylor playing for newcastle. He is so terrible and defending and loathsome getting back.

Most of his free kicks have ended up int the wall.

Santon is a much better pick for newcastle, Hes got more pace, crossing and defending ability.

Torres can only be a disappointment if you had high hopes for him to start with, which i did not lol so he doesnt make my list. I think Drogba would make my list tho.

How does my team look for this Gameweek lads? Any changes required? Only have the 1 FT with 0.5m in the bank.

    Vorm (Hennessey)
    Jags, Jones, Enrique, Richards
    Mata, Bale, Silva
    RVP (c), Ade, Sturridge

    Sess, Raylor, Dyer

Is Richards available after injury? Might be worth checking.

Hennessy->Krul to help Vorm's harder fixtures might be an idea. Mata->Nani too.

If you have him, definitely do not get rid of Rooney. He's probably the player I want to bring in the most at the moment but I can't afford him without major surgery.

You get matched up with another player every week until 2 players remain in week 38.

There don't appear to be any prizes though as far as I can see...

Yeh this week is the qualifying round for the cup. Simply score in the top 2,097,152 and you qualify. Get put up against a random opponent each week and if you lose you are knocked out. Last man standing wins!

is RVP still worth a captaincy choice with song in the the reckoning? got it on him at the moment, other choices would be Ba, Ade, VDV, Silva, Nani.

Would you still choose RVP yeah? 🙂

If I had Ba i think it would be hard for me to go past him. Song out would swing me towards Ba i think. That being said I am going RVP for the armband all the way, altho i do not own Mr Ba

its a good point, plus Ba is at home, and can see another big haul from him, its just when RVP has scored low, which hasnt been very much this season, he then goes onto his next game and tends to haul the points in.

think im gonna stick with RVP and keep it sane lol.

You're spoilt for choice at the moment 😀

I have all of those apart from Nani... I wouldn't captain Nani at Fulham (we tend to struggle at Craven Cottage) and I wouldn't captain Spurs players vs Chelsea. Silva may be rested so that just leaves Ba and RVP... I'd say flip a coin. I'm going for RVP against a pretty weakened Villa side.

But expect a goals galore in the Newcastle vs West Brom...at both ends

haha yeah good point, does come down to Ba and RVP anyway doesn't it, i'm gonna stick with RVP, villa are awful at the moment and can again see a good haul from mr persie. think think borm may play hard to get for newcastle, either way i think either ba or rvp are pretty much the same anyway for next games captaincy. cheers.
