Kieran Gibbs is ruled out for another month after undergoing groin surgery. Phil Jones receives good news on his jaw injury, Davide Santon’s injury paves the way for Ryan Taylor’s return, while Steven Gerrard may be set for a surprise return against Blackburn this weekend…

Sir Alex Ferguson had some good and bad news for Man United fans in his Friday morning press conference. Ferguson confirmed that Ashley Young is due to miss several weeks with a knee injury sustained against Fulham but was pleased to reveal the injury to Phil Jones is not as bad as first expected. It was feared the former Blackburn man would be sidelined after a stray elbow from Clint Dempsey in the 5-0 win over the Cottagers had left him concussed, amid fears of a break, but Fergie revealed:

We have good news on Phil Jones: he should be okay for Monday. He has some swelling in his jaw but there’s no break, no fracture, which is good news.

Steven Gerrard could return from his lengthy spell on the sidelines against Blackburn on Boxing Day. Gerrard has been out for two months with an ankle injury but has now returned to full training and Kenny Dalglish has refused to rule out the idea that his skipper may feature against Steve Kean’s side. The Liverpool boss admitted:

Everything he’s done, he’s done very well. He’s been training, but whether that means he’s ready or not, we’ll have to wait and see.

Marcos Alonso faces up to six weeks on the sidelines with a foot problem. The left-back sustained the injury in Bolton’s midweek match at Blackburn and although there was no break, he will still need surgery to replace the pin that was put in his foot following a similar problem earlier in the year.

Davide Santon is set to miss out on Newcastle’s trip to Bolton with a knee injury. The Italian was subbed off at half-time in the 3-2 defeat to West Brom with pains in the joint but Alan Pardew has revealed he is expected to be available for the game against Liverpool on the 30th December. Pardew also confirmed Ryan Taylor will come straight back into the first XI as a result of Santon’s absence.

Harry Redknapp has revealed Spurs have selection issues in defence ahead of the trip to Norwich. Both Ledley King and Younes Kaboul have picked up hamstring problems and with Rafael Van der Vaart also subbed off last night after suffering yet another tweak, Tottenham could be forced to make a few changes for the Carrow Road encounter.

Kieran Gibbs is ruled out for another month after undergoing groin surgery. With Andre Santos unlikely to be back until March, Arsene Wenger could continue with Thomas Vermaelen at left-back, with plenty of cover in the central defensive area. The Gunners boss also revealed Johan Djourou has “a little chance“ of featuring in the game against Wolves on 27th December.

Wenger went on to admit he could be forced into a reassessing his left-back options, though any possible deal would likely be a loan:

It can only be a short-term solution for us because we have bought Santos, we have Gibbs, we have Vermaelen who can play there, so we do not need a long-term solution.

Owen Coyle has revealed that Chelsea have opened talks with Bolton over the potential transfer of Gary Cahill in the upcoming January window. With Alex now marginalized after his transfer request was accepted, the Blues are lacking in central defensive options and Cahill, priced at 5.2, could be a potential FPL bargain if the move transpires and he establishes himself as a fixture in Andre Villas-Boas’ starting XI.

Can we not captain the two of them. Wolves defence is pretty wack and Wigan will be lifted from 2 good performances against Chelsea & Liverpool but Old Trafford is a different prospect. Both scoring high I reckon.

Wolves can't defend, they don't have the fit central midfielders to go to a 4-5-1 to sure themselves up and RVP is chasing that record. All I see is a RVP monster haul.

Nani captain against Blackburn is an option with RVP likely rested for GW19

              Thats what I'm doing.

RVP will be going all out for Shearer's record and he'll be at home against a porous Wolves road defence.

If RVP doesn't get a decent haul it won't be for the want of trying and Hennessey will have had to have played a blinder!

Those of us with Nani will still have his points haul as opposed to those who don't have him!!

Alternatively they will put three men on RVP and other players will score. Maybe Henry will do him with a crunching tackle?!

I have Nani but I ain't captaining him, in short, Martinez ain't no fool and won't be caught out silly the way Jol was with no speed out wide. Teams do watch film in the league (most of the time). Liverpool wasn't a fluke. That being said, anything can happen at OT...

I'd say he will, he's well bought into the ball movement, and quick counters wide. The only other person he could really put out there can't be trusted to stick t the script anymore (Park), with Young injured, it would seem he already needs to play Welbeck wide (if he starts Chich) or Valencia there if he's not going to play him there defensively. Jones' somewhat certainty to start gives him the few options he has...barring a Rafael appearance.

So decided on yak to Sturridge and VDV to Bale with my two freebies

Now weighing up whether to do Baines to Vermaelen for a hit.
Reasons for- good fixtures and goal threat, also allows me to Ba to Ade next gw ready for the double
Reasons against- gonna cost me 4 points

    Overall Y or N?

Money is real tight otherwise, I am relying on Ba going up 0.1 and Ade staying the same before the next gameweek. The only other way I will be able to get Ade in is downgrading Baines to Jagielka in the game before the dgw.

The question really is will Verm outscore Baines by 4 points in the next two gws?

I can't help thinking that Liverpool must be punished for wearing those t-shirts. By wearing them they were basically undermining all the good work that has gone into combating racism in football over the last decade.

As a Rangers fan I could not imagine what would happen were we to make an overt display of support for sectarianism.

I am 1000% positive that 'Pool would suggest the shirts were a support for the player and not for his "alleged racist statements" [which they deny in the first place]

Bale. Look at his fixtures. And he plays every minute unless he's injured.

I'm thinking of Valencia. WIG BLA up next, then trade him for Bale for the DGW.

That might be the best move. I was thinking Bale as a long-term pick.

leaning towards that. but don't you think bale/spurs will do well against nor and swa?

I will save my transfer next week as to have 2 right before the double. only problem with getting valencia now is that I will want to get in bale, 1 other spurs player (vdv if he's better if not probably BAE or walker), and drenth for the dgw which would involve taking a hit. plus theres the risk of any other injuries.

so is valencia over bale worth at least 4 or 8 points more over the next two weeks?

Who knows. I don't think you really need Drenthe for the DGW but it's a luxury if you can get him in without too much trouble. A 4 point hit for him is obviously only a 2 point hit if he plays both games.

Norwich won't be an easy game but should be goals at both ends. Swansea you'd expect to be quite tight and not many goals.
Compare that to WIG BLA and I don't think there's any comparison.
I have 2 FTs at the moment so things are a bit easier for me mind.

Valencia could easily be benched, even Nani could be benched. You never know with Fergie.

True. But for the next 2 at least, there's only Park as an option. Young is out and with Valencia getting 5 assists in 2 games I think he'll start both. Think it's my move this week anyway.

Welbeck too I suppose as a wide option. Valencia's form hopefully should put him ahead of Park and Welbeck with Nani on the other.

Chich would need to play...and in my opinion his lack of ball control is counter-productive.

So VDV sell or not to sell. Mata for me is the obvious choice as I have silva and nani already. Hmm but then there is also Bale... If it wasn't for the DGW VDV would be gone.

Defo get rid of VDV. The chocolate hamstring is knackered and that price for an injury prone player is nutty. Mata for the 2 home games, switch it to Bale for the DGW then see who you want to keep then.

i'm getting rid. probably wont play between now and then and might even be hurt for the DGW judging on what was said. looking at bale, valencia, and mata. leaning towards one of the first two

Who to play? Brown, Simpson or Caulkner? Can't decide!

    Also: Brunt or Tiote?

    Advice is highly appreciated.

    Looking at downgrading Ben Arfa to a mid 5.1 or less to afford to get in Ade for Welbeck. Bolton have two lovely fixtures coming up and I fancy them to score. Ive a choice of 3 mids;

Reo-Coker, Muamba or M.Davies. Any bolton fans about? Reckon Davies will start both games? He plays the furthest forward of the 3.

Not liking Sturridge (doesn't have the 1+ goal potential...doesn't seem to play well with others...aka selfish to a fault)

Not liking Ba against Bolton, Zat "Power Forward" Knight and Cahill just love the ball above the waist to block or snuff out.

Talk me out of my logic please...someone?

The Blacksheep is the complete forward and will have the beating of Zat "not very good defender" Knight and Gary "Mind on other things" Cahill all game long.

Playing 5 defenders! Their fixtures might look decent but one jammy opposition goal and you could have just 10pts from those five. Start Walters (he averages 7pts per game at home). Hope that helps 🙂
