Kieran Gibbs is ruled out for another month after undergoing groin surgery. Phil Jones receives good news on his jaw injury, Davide Santon’s injury paves the way for Ryan Taylor’s return, while Steven Gerrard may be set for a surprise return against Blackburn this weekend…

Sir Alex Ferguson had some good and bad news for Man United fans in his Friday morning press conference. Ferguson confirmed that Ashley Young is due to miss several weeks with a knee injury sustained against Fulham but was pleased to reveal the injury to Phil Jones is not as bad as first expected. It was feared the former Blackburn man would be sidelined after a stray elbow from Clint Dempsey in the 5-0 win over the Cottagers had left him concussed, amid fears of a break, but Fergie revealed:

We have good news on Phil Jones: he should be okay for Monday. He has some swelling in his jaw but there’s no break, no fracture, which is good news.

Steven Gerrard could return from his lengthy spell on the sidelines against Blackburn on Boxing Day. Gerrard has been out for two months with an ankle injury but has now returned to full training and Kenny Dalglish has refused to rule out the idea that his skipper may feature against Steve Kean’s side. The Liverpool boss admitted:

Everything he’s done, he’s done very well. He’s been training, but whether that means he’s ready or not, we’ll have to wait and see.

Marcos Alonso faces up to six weeks on the sidelines with a foot problem. The left-back sustained the injury in Bolton’s midweek match at Blackburn and although there was no break, he will still need surgery to replace the pin that was put in his foot following a similar problem earlier in the year.

Davide Santon is set to miss out on Newcastle’s trip to Bolton with a knee injury. The Italian was subbed off at half-time in the 3-2 defeat to West Brom with pains in the joint but Alan Pardew has revealed he is expected to be available for the game against Liverpool on the 30th December. Pardew also confirmed Ryan Taylor will come straight back into the first XI as a result of Santon’s absence.

Harry Redknapp has revealed Spurs have selection issues in defence ahead of the trip to Norwich. Both Ledley King and Younes Kaboul have picked up hamstring problems and with Rafael Van der Vaart also subbed off last night after suffering yet another tweak, Tottenham could be forced to make a few changes for the Carrow Road encounter.

Kieran Gibbs is ruled out for another month after undergoing groin surgery. With Andre Santos unlikely to be back until March, Arsene Wenger could continue with Thomas Vermaelen at left-back, with plenty of cover in the central defensive area. The Gunners boss also revealed Johan Djourou has “a little chance“ of featuring in the game against Wolves on 27th December.

Wenger went on to admit he could be forced into a reassessing his left-back options, though any possible deal would likely be a loan:

It can only be a short-term solution for us because we have bought Santos, we have Gibbs, we have Vermaelen who can play there, so we do not need a long-term solution.

Owen Coyle has revealed that Chelsea have opened talks with Bolton over the potential transfer of Gary Cahill in the upcoming January window. With Alex now marginalized after his transfer request was accepted, the Blues are lacking in central defensive options and Cahill, priced at 5.2, could be a potential FPL bargain if the move transpires and he establishes himself as a fixture in Andre Villas-Boas’ starting XI.

    I have

    Vorm Ruddy
    Hibbert Naylor Brown Simpson Jones
    VDV Drenthe Shelvey Silva Walters
    RVP Rooney Ba

1 ft, 0.6 in bank. Thinking of doing:

    A) VDV to Nani this week
    Ba to Sturridge next GW
Walters and Rooney to Bale and Ade the GW after for a 4 pointer
    OR
    B) VDV to Nani this week
Ba to Sturridge and Jones to Evans next GW for a 4 pointer
Shelvey and Rooney to Bale and Ade the GW after for a 4 pointer

Which one to do, and why?

I'm thinking of getting a defender in for Turner (and maybe Woodgate with a future transfer) as I'm happy with my attack and midfielder for the next few weeks - I only have 1.1m in the bank so would it be right to say that Gallas would be my best option with the double gameweek looming? Man United have good fixtures but I don't see why not have 3 Tottenham and Everton players with a wildcard coming straight after.

You've stayed between 70k and 100k almost since the start. It gets difficult to get green arrows the higher up you are (obviously). If you aim for top 100k you may not be disappointed by the end of the season. If you have a ranking like mine in week 9 you get pretty green arrows every week!

You expect goals in Swansea vs. QPR? Swans have one of the best defences in the league and QPR one of the worst attacks. Newcastle could potentially shut up shop after getting beaten by West Brom but with Bolton coming off a win I'd say Swansea definitely have the better chance.

yea, but qpr and swans have been going at it in the championship, I bet qpr could have a better idea than most teams initially have about how to deal with the swans... wasn't aware qpr had one of worst attacks tho.

        now I'm leaning toward taylor

Your team doesn't really need a transfer this week but seeing as you have 2 frees I'd get Evans in for Richards and just play:

      Szczesny
      Jones Evans Enrique
      Sinclair Walters Silva Nani
      RVP Ade Sturridge

and then for GW19 maybe you can get someone in for Sinclair if you don't fancy him VS Spurs, leaving you with 2 FT for the double.

    Repost...

Norwich game seems to be the perfect game for Bale. Seriously thinking of doing a Silva > Bale for a hit. For the amount of goals that Man City are scoring Silva is getting a lot of points but should get more. He is the most consistent player but not explosive. Looking @ points per game thy are very close and Bale definitely gives better value for money spent.

My gut tells me that Bale will have a field day @ Norwich.

I used my free transfer on Yaks > Sturridge

I definitely agree, you have Ferguson not playing so have to lose Barnet to make sure you have 11 playing each week. Get Jones and Barnet out and Evans and Enrique in. Liverpool seem to be able to defend at the mo

    BAE Simpson Brown Jones Enrique
    Dyer Silva Nani Drenthe Walters
    RVP Ade Ba

2.9M in bank, 2FTs. I do not want Rooney but would like another Utd player – Valencia or Evans

    1 Given + Dyer —-> Valencia + Sorensen
    2 Brown + Dyer —>Evans + Gower/Moses
3 Drenthe + Given —> Valenica + Sorensen (enough to do Valencia —>Bale for DGW)

Have 2 FT and at the moment am thinking of Pilkington out for Gower/Gomez/Moses etc. Frees a little money as I have none in bank. Should I save second xfer or consider Larsson out for somebody like Walters/Etherington/Drenthe. I have no everton players at the moment. Help please.

to replace vdv for weeks 18+ 19

    a) kuyt
    b) cahill
    c) walcott
    d )walters

considering kuyt and cahill as statistically over the years score goals and havent scored yet this season so its a matter of time before they score. any logic behind this?

Nani is the only player I would trade Silva for right now. Man C. are regarded as "fixture proof" but they do have a tough enough schedule coming up and Nani looks like the beast of the mids right now. With WC coming up I think it's a timely trade

    REPOST: No one replied

    I have

    Vorm Ruddy
    Hibbert Naylor Brown Simpson Jones
    VDV Drenthe Shelvey Silva Walters
    RVP Rooney Ba

1 ft, 0.6 in bank. Thinking of doing:

    A) VDV to Nani this week
    Ba to Sturridge next GW
Walters and Rooney to Bale and Ade the GW after for a 4 pointer
    OR
    B) VDV to Nani this week
Ba to Sturridge and Jones to Evans next GW for a 4 pointer
Shelvey and Rooney to Bale and Ade the GW after for a 4 pointer

Which one to do, and why?
